      I seriously believe Archie Bunker's Place, which was also set in a bar, was one of the major targets of Cheers. I think the people who made Cheers knew stuff about Norman Lear which suggested he wasn't nearly as wise as a person like his television work was. He probably was even like Sam when it came to womanizing, and was probably even worse. Archie Bunker's Place didn't last long after Cheers debuted.

    It's funny, when I was a kid in the 80's as I was turning the knob on our small TV in our living room, going through different channels I use to come across the ending credits of cheers. Sometimes the beginning of the intro but I use to say to myself: "man I hate that music"! Maybe every now and then an episode or two, just a glimpse but hardly. I was not into sitcoms. Heck, I had no idea what a sitcom was, let alone the word itself. Now as an old man I can't get enough of cheers! I must have watched the entire show over and over again countless times. Now I wish I had back then.

      Darn right it was one of the top sitcoms. The writing was OUTSTANDING. And both the cast and crew were essentially exemplary in every way imaginable. And while I'm here, I *WILL* argue that "Moonlighting" was equally fantastic when it came to the entire production--especially regarding the writing and direction. :)

    • @Novastar.SaberCombat
      @Novastar.SaberCombat 4 месяца назад +2

      @@pamelalagree-kanotz6845 Strange, I thought Kirstie was WONDERFUL as "Rebecca Howe". Yes, Shelley Long was brilliant as "Diane", but the Howe character was also fantastic. The character was always a "paper tiger", and it was a subtle nuance of difference over the Chambers character.
      Also, interestingly enough, it TOTALLY tracks that both Alley and Cattrall once also portrayed "Star Trek vulcans". Their general demeanors, vocal patterns, neurotic presences, intensities, and so forth were very similar.

    When I moved to Boston in 1994 it was still the Bull and Finch pub below and a different restaurant upstairs but they were connected by the internal stairs. Good HEAVENS, the writing on "Cheers" was so legendarily wonderful, yes? What a shame that here in 202x... ummm... maybe I'm wrong, but ya don't really see anything like it. Sure, sure "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul" has some monumentally groovy writing, but there's nothing like THIS in terms of comedic writing that actually worked, was performed at exemplary levels, and landed so strongly on two solid feet for DECADES. What a treasure of a series. Paramount must be over the moon that they have the rights.
    Also... it's hard to believe that Nicholas Colasanto isn't going to be the only one who's passed on much longer. :( But hey, we all only have so many years remaining. CHEERS! :)

    Cheers the best bar

    Previous comments about the Cheers bar actually being Boston’s Bull and Finch bar are mistaken. The Cheers bar was a specifically built Hollywood studio set. Only exterior shots of the Bull and Finch were used.

    Seeing this clip reminded me that Paul played one of the Bobs in Office Space!
    Two minor but so very memorable roles where Paul Wilson stole the show!

    The actor who played Paul was originally named Glenn. I wonder why they changed it. Maybe he was originally named after one of the Charles brothers.

    Is that Keenen Ivory Wayans in the second cold open that says - "Those are our drinks."? I paused it when he walks by and I'm pretty sure it's him.
