    Hi Mauve. I feel like I say this every time (cause I probably do 😅), I loove your book related videos. If you make it a yearly tradition, I know a lot of people, including me, would appreciate it. It's cool to watch your collection grow.
    Yes, please, I would love to see the rest of the books that you keep in your room. And maybe you can show us your partner's books as well, if they're ok with that, of course.
    Seeing Mariana Enríquez in your bookshelf made me happy. She's one of my new favorite writers.
    Thank you again for recommending Portrait Of A Marriage. I really enjoyed that one last year.
    I'm sorry again that part of your collection got lost in the mail.
    I hope you're covid free now, healthy and having a nice day. Take care 💜

I don't read any fantasy, but I read a little sci-fi -- I have a sci-fi-specific shelf where I keep them, though, so I'll have to make sure to include that next time for you! Making some notes for books to pick up in 2023 👀
    My sister got me Cursed Bunny for Christmas; it had been on my mind since you mentioned it in a past video. Loved a few stories, liked most of them, but I wish it felt _stickier_, ya know? And then I read a thematically similar book that I liked _less_, which I think helped improve CB a bit more in hindsight hahaha.

    • @MauveASMR
      @MauveASMR  2 года назад +1

      YES I know exactly what you mean by "stickier" -- love the way you put it! What was the thematically similar book you read, just out of curiosity? I also wonder if you'd like I Hold a Wolf By Its Ears, or maybe Florida (Groff). In comparison to CB they're definitely less weird but still spooky and, I think, ultimately stickier

    • @tsirooooo
      @tsirooooo 2 года назад +1

      @@MauveASMR ohhh these two books look great (especially, I think, I Hold a Wolf By Its Ears). Gonna throw these both on my list 👀They both sound like they might have some of the spark I want more of.
      The other book was Mexican Gothic! Obviously on the surface they're super different (Mexican Gothic being more of a (very) knowing gothic/lovecraftian pastiche, vs Cursed Bunny's collection of genre-hopping, more contemporary & somewhat experimental form), but they're both playing with ideas around families, legacies, social roles, women's issues, curses, etc. etc.
      I think everyone I've talked to enjoyed Mexican Gothic more than I did, so I'm willing to accept this as a me problem and not an it problem (hahaha), but I thought it was just *so* unsubtle and, honestly, after reading Cursed Bunny, not particularly creepy or chilling in the way I was hoping it would be. Made me appreciate more in retrospect Chung's range, and how comfortable she is with ambiguity. Had a difficult time really leaning into Mexican Gothic's creepy atmosphere because it was one of those books where like from the first 15 minutes of reading that ultimately everything was going to be okay for all of the good people in the book.
      (It's funny, I blew through it in like three days and overall mostly enjoyed my time with it, but trying to talk about it at all makes me sound like a huge hater lmao.)

    have you ever read “before the coffee gets cold”? haha the title cold enough for snow (haven’t read it yet) reminds me of that book…also you must read the topeka school it is soooooo good! it’s definitely pretty cerebral but it has moments of some of the best prose like ever….it also is vaguely reminiscent of sally rooney, kinda like a smarty pants version of her books

    I like how you said "excuse me" to the plant. You have a really nice and relaxing voice. I love books too. I'll have to read some of the ones you suggest, maybe Second place and The Idiot next. I'm currently making my way through Middlemarch by George Eliot. Have you read that? If not, want to read it with me? I'm liking it so far. Great video.

    • @MauveASMR
      @MauveASMR  2 года назад

      OH goodness you can't go wrong with Second Place or The Idiot! Let me know what you think! As for Middlemarch, I've picked it up but never finished it. I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to like it (a similar thing happens to me with Orlando) but I never get into it, so I just keep trying, hoping eventually it will hit me right. So many people with similar taste to mine love Middlemarch, and someone I know even rereads it every year (!!!), and I adored Silas Marner when I read it... but Middlemarch hasn't clicked for me yet. One day!!

      I DID! It's in my living room bookshelf, so I'll have to show you that sometime! I had to read it very slowly, because of its density and structure, so I just chipped away at it, reading a section or two every morning. I didn't like the curio cabinet / body part sections but could more or less appreciate them, and everything else was very good, my favorite parts being the sections on travelers and also the AIRPORT SCENES eg presentations given there, musings on liminal spaces, etc. Olga just has the wackiest, brightest mind
