Every year when the Mauve bookshelf tour shows up on my YT homepage I start howling and frothing at the mouth as I imemdiately open goodreads and add everything to my tbr
Hi Mauve! This is one of my favorite annual traditions! I am always curious about the new additions and your new bookshelf organization. I loved the idea of putting the favorites together so much that I started doing the same a year ago. Every time I watch one of these, I always get great recommendations from you! For some reason your bookshelf tours are the most calming ones for me and always help me when I am feeling bad. I hope you get to read new Clarice Lispector's books this year! I'm excited to know what you will think! Have a great week, Mauve! ❤
a room of one’s own, giovanni’s room, and the woman warrior are my top three favorite books of all time, you have such good taste! i’m taking all of your book recs
YES welcome welcome, I'm so glad you're here! I don't talk enough about The Woman Warrior -- WHAT A BANGER. (And actually I stole my copy from my sister and I don't think she knows lol. I just never gave it back... it was too good oops. I would not do this to a friend. But I would do it to my sister 😂) Lmk if you have any recs of your own 💜
Oooh, I love this tradition of yours to show your bookshelf every year🤗 Looking at shelves full of books is enough to relax me. Add your gentle voice and hand movements and…I fell asleep. I’ll watch the video again to take your recommandations :)
I bought The Creative Act in Portland this summer and have kept coming back to it ever since. Really great resource for developing your creative mindset/habits.
I just received Having and Being Had in the mail today per your recommendation ♥️ I don’t typically read for pleasure because I’m in college but your description piqued my interest!
Ahhhh I think you're really going to like it! It's VERY thought-provoking and also SUPER accessible & easy/enjoyable to read imo. A little dishy too. Hope it offers a nice break from your assignments! 💜🤗
Another addition to your best videos! I really admire your dedication to paring down your bookshelf to only those books you really love. I'm wondering, for the ones you don't want to display, do you give/sell them or do you keep them in storage somewhere?
Sometimes they go into a shelf in the closet while I decide how I really feel about them 😅 Otherwise I donate them or put them in tiny libraries or give them to specific friends I think would enjoy them. It's not hard because I only give away that which really doesn't fit... rather than trying to pare down to reach a certain number or something like that. So it's just a feeling thing. And THEN, when I look at my shelf and it's got nothing but really really good stuff, it's extra delightful! Hard to explain but it really makes me happy. Like the very good books are no longer diluted by other books I found less enjoyable 💜
I loved Biography of X! Maybe it's the editor in me; I just can't reaist a well-placed fictional footnote. I'm reading one of Catherine Lacey's earlier novels, Pew, right now and enjoying it so far. Also finally picking up The Argonauts. My partner and I are swimming in books. Our poor living room bookcase is just brimming. Maybe one day I will have the courage to pare it down, or at least keep a beloved favs display like yours 💟
I’m gonna try “Drive Your Plow…” and “Milkman” from your top shelf. Tempted to continue the Outline trilogy just to see what it’s about. Love/hate Rachel Cusk’s work. 😂 as I’ve mentioned before, it’s fascinating writing that also drives me crazy. So yeah, I should probably read more of her books 🤣
Yes! Those two are phenomenal, and so expertly written, and really quite strange. This is part of what sold me on Milkman: www.newyorker.com/magazine/2018/12/10/a-novel-about-coming-of-age-amid-the-troubles , including the phrase "Fetching minor characters keep bubbling up." Also yes, read more Cusk! Or take a break! It's funny -- like you, sometimes I don't click with a piece of art, and sometimes that's all that ever happens with it for me, but other times, I return to it, and all of the sudden it bowls me over! I think: Not all the time, but sometimes and often, it's important to sit with art that challenges us or confuses us to learn more about our own tastes and the possibilities of creative expression 💜
@ totally! I agree. I like art that challenges me and Cusk’s writing definitely does that. I think that’s why I keep coming back to her. I’m curious to see where the Outline trilogy goes. And yeah, “Milkman” sounds fantastic! I’ll probably start with that one as my next read.
Have you read Intermezzo by Sally Rooney yet? I thought it was really good and you might like it if you liked her other books! Love this yearly video btw :)
I haven't! Beautiful World lost me, so I've been taking my time getting back. I'm wary of buzzy books even though I do really like SR. Idk! I plan to though! Thanks for the reminder 😊
Haven't read it. When the reviews talked about the pages and pages of Vesta's Yahoo searches, I lost all interest. I could imagine another writer making that work but for me personally I feel like OM sometimes falls into a bad habit of padding the text without much aim. Sounds like there were also some beautiful and spooky scenes though! But not enough to get me to buy
Aw! 💜 Luckily the texts are always available to us, so whenever a favorite book calls you back, you can go and find it, no matter whether it's to buy or to borrow 🤗📚

New bookshelf tour? Hell yeah. Cozy library vibes are the best.

There's something so tender about the way you touch the spines of your books. Love this video so much Mauve 💚💙💜
Thank you Debs!! You're so sweet 💜📚🤗
Best ASMR on the internet. Love these book reviews. 📚
You are truly one of the few people on the internet I trust with book recommendations!
I usually don’t comment, but you are my favorite ASMR artist. Most of the time, I don’t even finish the video before I’m fast asleep.
Then my work here is done! 💜😊
@ ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Mauve, this is my super bowl

Keeping tarot cards on the bookshelf is such a good idea! I'm stealing it 🤭
It's the best! Would love to hear how you end up incorporating it, as everyone's practice is a little different! 💜
You're literally the coolest!! I love the idea of putting tarot cards on your shelf 😊

Would literally adore a book read by you in a Patreon audio!
Doing readings there on the Pen Pal tier, right now the aim is every other month! For February reading the beginning of In Praise of Shadows 😊🙏
@@MauveASMR Would you ever consider having a goodreads?
