As a fellow ASMR book content creator, I feel you on the connecting with other people who love books as much as you 💜 I’m new to your content, and am excited to binge. Your content is so relaxing!
You have no idea how excited I get when you not only post a video but a BOOK VIDEO! 😌🤍 Edit: god I go through these like quick-fire, they always feel like 5 minute videos 🤍🤍
"The Things They Carried" is a fantastic book. I think you would enjoy it. It is about the war in Viatnam, however it is not a typical war story and doesnt really discuss war as much as it explains the morale issue behind it. The athour will spontaniously break the narative with tangents about ethics, morales, and truths v.s. untruths (These are the parts I find most interesting). It is a great, short read!
OMG book ASMR is my favourite, it has this added bonus where also just end up reading all the books when I like someone's taste. Thank you so much for this fantastic list!
just wanted to say i really love the asmr book videos and get excited when you post one ❤ thank u for doing them also love your book recs they’re always interesting and a little different from the usual ones i see online!
amazing collection of books! you're motivating me to pick up some elif batuman. I finished university recently and I haven't been able to pick up books with that setting because it makes me a little homesick for my time there but batuman sounds worth it. self portrait in green and cold enough for snow were two of my favourites of the year too. i also loved near to the wild heart by clarice lispector (my fav lispector so far), nightwood by djuna barnes, and malina by ingeborg bachmann (there's a great article in the new yorker titled "Ingeborg Bachmann’s “Malina” Is the Truest Portrait of Female Consciousness Since Sappho" which says everything you need to know haha) thanks again for a soothing bookish video!
Hello from Austria! I love your videos. I'm a big ASMR fan and react most to whispering and soft spoken and of course I'm absolutely right with you. Your calm backgrounds also help me to relax and I really like it when you always run through your beautiful hair so slowly. Some of your videos are saved in my "best ASMRs" folder. THANK YOU for so much relaxation and best regards from Vienna.
“Cold Enough for Snow” is one of my favorite recommendations from your videos and one of my favorite reads of the year! “Self-Portrait in Green” too. I think my favorite book this year was a classic, “Of Mice and Men”, another lean but powerful story. “Moon Palace” by Paul Auster. Also working my way through “A Tale of Two Cities” by Dickens. Interesting and beautifully written even if it’s not my favorite thing ever (yet)
Thank you for sharing, got some books to read for 2023 now 😉 my faves this year: Educated by Tara Westover (so gripping), All About Love by bell hooks and How to Love by Thich Nhat Hanh
Hola Mauve. Me anoto tu recomendación. Mi hermana ama War and Peace y me lo recomendó hace años.
A year end wrap up is the video I didn't know I needed. Are you like me. I use any opportunity to finish my current book. Like in line at checkout of a store or if I'm early to meet someone just any extra time I have. It's the only way I finish any book.
I recently finished Second Place by Rachel Cusk (on your recommendation I believe) and it was one of my few five star reads this year! Some of my other favorites were Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin, Chess Story by Stefan Zweig, and Kindred by Octavia Butler.
Ahhhh I'm so glad you liked it! Giovanni's Room is also AMAZING. Hadn't heard of Chess Story but it looks super interesting-- can't really go wrong with NYRB imo
I want to read some books during the holidays because then I finally have time so this video is perfect 💞💞 ❤️🔥🍒sadly I can only read for enjoyment when I‘m on vacation because I have to read so many books for school which are so boring! 😭
Loved all aspects of this video but especially the hands, and from what I see of you, you could sohhh model. Love the dark hair and voice, so intelligent, concise and relaxing..scribed
omg after one of your previous videos I got so close to picking up The Idiot & Either/Or, but a kneejerk reaction against coming-of-age stories kept me away. correcting that for real this time. and this is also definitely the closest I've come to wanting to pick up War & Peace in my life. my two favorite novels this year were The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende and Pedro Páramo by Juan Rulfo. the former had been on my list for a while and totally blew my mind; I knew nearly nothing going into it except that it was "about a family, over time". the specificity of the characterization in that book is unparalleled. and both the emotional and thematic range is really impressive. Pedro Páramo I had never even heard of until a friend suggested we read it for a book club (sort of, it's a long story) I'm in. it's a spanish-language reading group, but my spanish still is extremely not perfect, so I blasted through it in english to prepare. oh my god I don't think I've ever read a book quite like it before. one of those books that I put down and was like "omg I didn't realize that books could be like this!!!" it's no wonder that so many authors mention it as an inspiration. and I also gotta shout out The Dawn of Everything by David Graeber and David Wengrow. the dry explanation is that it is an anthropological book re-examinging the historical record, challenging contemporary notions of the "savage" and "simple" societies that humans lived with for the thousands of years before "civilization". the fun explanation is that I finished it early in the year and I think about it every day and it completely blew up the way that I think about the word.
First of all, you should definitely pick up The Idiot! It sounds like it's about nothing (or would be a run-of-the-mill coming-of-age story, as so many of its elements seem so basic) except the protagonist is so smart and observant and also so uniquely green -- I LOVE IT and I'm convinced you will too. As for your recs -- adding The Dawn of Everything to my list for sure. Also YES Pedro Paramo! My friend named her dog after this book. As for The House of Spirits, unparalleled specificity of characterization is the closest I've ever come to picking up Allende! I just might, I just might
Noooooo don't make me choose! They're like sisters. I think HS is messier (in a good way maybe though?) and P more propulsive, which I found more impressive, but I think the mood/world of HS has stuck with me more. But idk!!
@@MauveASMR I enjoy your videos a lot. I love books so I love that you do the book videos and love reading too. You are so beautiful. I think it would be nice and even helpful to your channel if you showed your entire face but of course it's up to you and you probably have reasons you don't want to do that. I find it a little distracting/disconcerting to only see the bottom of your face. Not complaining, just giving you what is hopefully some helpful feedback. ❤

I was gifted this book in high school and it has sat on my bookshelf for years but I have yet to read it. This just motivated me to give it a read!
I have read this book several times. It is so fantastic
I haven't read it since high school but I agree! It's a really powerful book
Your fav books of the year vids are my fav part about the holidays 😂

Great picks! I haven't read The House on the Cerulean Sea yet but I keep hearing such high praise for it, really want to pick it up soon

Love all your book videos, and I especially enjoy end of year favourites. My top reads of the year were Gilead, Beloved, and Bring Up The Bodies.
Beloved is so unbelievably good 💜

My partner loves How to Love by Thich Nhat Hanh so I got them All About Love as a little extra Christmas gift! 🎄
Your whisper is one of my favorites. Top three for sure.
Thank you!! 🤗
