I literally have not read a book that wasn’t for school since high school over 10 years ago but your reviews make me want to run to my nearest library and bookstore! Thank you for this calming and inspirational content!
Last week I got back to this video and I've read "In the dream house" and halfway to "Conversation with friends" since. Machado has made a deep impression in me. I connected with her detached way of approaching the problem, her prose made sense as an assorted stream of thoughts; how she constructs herself, the woman in the dream house and her present self. I'll keep reading your recommendations, they're so good! Thank you :)
Yayy!! Lo-Fi rambles from you are sooo nice 😊💕 Can't wait to see what books you recommend - I have just finished my book I was reading and am looking to start another now yayy 😊😊
Oooo would you be interested in filming a bookshelf tour/book collection video?? I love those kinds of videos so much! Love getting recommendations and just having a general sense of people's reading tastes too :) also I hope you feel better soon!
Thanks! As for a bookshelf tour -- yes! Going to film a new one as soon as I get all my books in one place. In the meantime there's an old one on my Patreon :)
Two lo-fi whispers in a row!? Bless you. Just finished Dune again myself and I just can't stop. Already deep into Messiah of Dune, the 2nd book. Plots within plots within plots. Everything gets so much more epic than the first one. The first one just sets the table up for the 5 courses of incredible conspiracy, philosophy, religion, technology (and its limits), etc. As the universe changes, the groups plots evolve, as they evolve, the universe evolves.
Mauve & Books 💛💛 I have only read Dune (and loved it) but I have been meaning to read Weather by Jenny Offill! I've only heard good things. Never stop updating us on your reading & book interests ❣️ (dying to know what you will think of Lispector and The Hour of The Star!)
Haven't read The Hour of the Star yet but it's waiting on my nightstand for me! A friend also told me Why This World is well worth reading, if you're looking for more on Lispector
I’m not even a minute in but I’m already getting so many tingles! Also, I don’t think I’ve ever commented on your channel, I love your voice and your videos, thank you for what you do
I definitely had a down year reading wise as well this year. Sort of counterintuitive given how much time I spent alone indoors due to covid. Glad to get some good recommendations from an avid reader to help me get back into a reading routine again. Thanks Mauve. :)
Thanks for bringing back the traditional ASMR (quality) with these lo-fi videos, I‘m always so happy when one of my favorite ASMRtists blesses my feed with one of those. 😍🙏🌞
My book recommendations from 2020 -Of human bondage by: somerset Maugham -Spring country by: Mishima (this book can get boring in parts, but the writing makes up for it) -No longer human by: osamu dazai -Brave new world by:Huxley -Any short story by Stefan Zweig -Cancer ward by: Solzhenitsyn Great video 👍
I read Brave New World earlier this year, it was amazing! I also read The Doors of Perception, it's really short and you should read it if you haven't already.
Been waiting for this video all year! ✨ In the Dream House was probably my favourite book of 2020. I’ve also read Weather, and Dune and Temporary are on my book stand (thanks to your recommendations)! Big thanks for all your book videos!
all of these are going on my to be read list!! right now i’m reading “drive your plow over the bones of the dead” (because you recommended it last year) and i’m absolutely loving it!!
I've recently gotten back into the swing with reading during quarantine, I've read maybe like 12 books since August? I picked up Coventry from one of your older videos and I'm excited to read that one soon
Thank you for your book rambles they are so wonderful! I'm currently reading Fingersmith by Sarah Waters (from your recommendation) and I cannot put it down!
What did you think of Hurricane Season? At first I found it really difficult to read because the sentences are so incredibly long, there aren’t quotation marks, and there aren’t paragraphs. It was definitely not an easy read for me. That being said, I appreciated that it was a bit more of a challenge for me to get through. The story was vile and heart wrenching and unique and I really did enjoy it. (Even though certain parts made my heart ache for some of the characters) Thank you for the recommendation!
I really liked it! I find that Spanish and Argentine writers tend to use longer sentences, so I was prepared for that, but you’re right that the lines are very heavy and tightly packed, and I thought that the absence of quotation marks was a smart choice to put the dialogue at more of a remove. I loved the atmosphere of it, how dark and sinister it was. And the language is so beautiful!!
I got locked out of my youtube account so I had to re-follow all the channels I like and yours was one of the first I thought to look up! Love your recommendations! :)
You may disagree but Lolita, the novel, never romanticises abuse; Nabokov was annoyed explaining how Humbert was an unreliable narrator and you're not supposed to read it as a love story. It's the readers who have romanticised the "love story" and Humbert's actions.
La mejor novela que he leído este año ha sido Pedro Páramo de Juan Rulfo. Todo un clásico de la literatura mexicana! Te la recomiendo. Es experimental, complicada y algo siniestra, pero muy cortita. Merece la pena.
Earbud microphone whispering is vastly underrated 💗💗💗
Right? I LOVE IT

For someone with insomnia, I very quickly fell asleep to this video and slept for a looong time. Thanks Mauve 😁
