@gaslitworldf.melissab2897 Do you still watch was much tv or are you now an internet fiend? I'm always interested in how tv fiends' habits changed with the arrival of the internet
So did Sarah Michelle gellar at the audition! She was apparently bugging him about it, asking questions and being really annoying and the casting team loved how he was trying not to show his irritation!
In Graduation Part 2 episode of Buffy, Giles actually makes a comment about coffee after Xander gives him a cup. It was an acknowledgement of these commercials
After hearing Sydney Pollack describe Kubrick’s obsession with these commercials, I can’t stop noticing its rather blatant influence on Eyes Wide Shut.
Are you saved? Where will you go when you die? Heaven or hell? The Gospel, which means the Good News is the news that God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh as Jesus Christ to take away the sin of the world. The one God is a trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Son came and laid down his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. Although God's creation was created perfect, having no death, sickness and disease, the creation became corrupted through Adam and Eve in them disobeying God. In this rebellion the creation became fallen through the curse of sin and mankind became separated from God. This world is fallen, but God offers reconciliation to him through his provision at the cross. Ultimately God will restore his creation to perfection when he returns but those that reject his offer of redemption will remain condemned by their sins and go to hell. John 1:1,14 KJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD. [14] And THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH, and dwelt among us, 1 John 3:8 KJV He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Isaiah 9:6 KJV For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. John 1:10 KJV He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and THE WORLD KNEW HIM NOT.
It has to be one of the best adverts the UK ever had - or rather a saga of adverts. There was a simple gripping storyline and it just had people hooked for years.
You got that right. I live in Canada and I used to watch it on US TV. Gillette Razor's The Best A Man Can Get written by and sung by John Parr (St. Elmo's Fire) was amazing.
Fun Fact: The woman in the ad is Sharon Maughan, mother of British actress Alice Eve. The commercial started in the U.S. in 1987 and ran as a "Taster's Choice" TV campaign, almost like a mini soap opera . . .
I just was having a flashback moment of this and had to indulge. I loved these ads. I had no idea there were so many. They played like a mini movie. The chemistry between the actors was incredible. Anthony Head(my beloved Gilles from Buffy) was so gorgeous and sexy.
I remember reading that the man who played her brother was actually the actress's husband, and that Tony stayed with them when he came to America. I could be wrong about all that.
It's funny how Buffy nailed serialized story telling on TV: the episodes were largely stand alone while linking into a larger narrative where a big story played out over the course of a season, and the popularity of these commercials was due to their serialized narrative. Ripper or not, these commercials are still memorable to those around at the time, and Tony Head's later portrayal of Rupert Giles has little to do with it since most are surprised when they hear who the guy is.
Glad this is on here. Was listening to old Greaseman recordings online and he did a skit about the series. He said the guy in it looks like someone who would hijack a truck. So i wanted to see for myself and i got a good laugh. He was spot on about his face.
"It is important for you not to expect extremes of sensation. Nescafé Gold is to coffee as Druids are to be the D&D Alignment Chart. The true middle. It is coffee as it exists in Plato’s World of Forms: the exact average of all coffees." -- AA
Then on the bottom tier you have Greggs coffee and happy shopper instant coffee (Granted I have had one or two okay greggs coffee's before and it might have just been a good day or maybe I just really wanted one)
There was a book written turning this couple into a story, which incorporated all the advert stories. It was called “Love Over Gold”. I read it - was quite good.
I find these commercials interesting in era pre-Starbucks, Costa. Coffee shops are everywhere now. I mean everywhere. As a kid cappuccino was an Italian defender. ☕️ 🇮🇹 It’s a very 1980’s success narrative of Filofaxes.
I remember this series of ads. There was one where he finally gets her into bed and in the "morning after" he asks her how it [the sex] was and she sips her coffee then says "It was like your coffee: instant" and his face drops. Can't remember if it was the actual final ad or a spoof the two original actors did for Telethon or Comic Relief or something.
Great commercial of Nescafe Gold Blend coffee. And that's actor Anthony Head from the movie "A Prayer For The Dying" and the TV remake of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer".
I met Anthony Stewart Head (seduced? I did phone seduction voice really well in those days and he could not see me initially as the lights were dim) at Toronto Trek. I delighted in teasing him about the coffee ☕️ ads. "We Canadians drank a lot of coffee in those days."
I loved 1:29. It was like he was saying "Keep Your Hands Off Of My Woman, Even Though She's Not Officially". It also reminds me of how Therese Belivet went to find Carol Aird in The Movie Carol.
I remember these commercials from when they were first aired. Many little charmers were grumbling, "Oh, for heaven's sake, just shag her already." The series did seem to rather drag on. And on. And then when I moved to America from the UK in 1990, they were being shown there and he had put on an American accent.
VHS Video Vault, was this ad campaign ever on a VHS? When I looked up "Gold Blend Couple" on Wikipedia, it says there was a "video compilation", but I have not been able to find a VHS in my searches (either for Nescafe Gold or Tasters Choice).
Perhaps they were talking about this ad, which ran on UK TV. I can't remember whether this was the end of the series or whether this compilation was a prelude to a final ad.
I heard she left him when he switched to tea, he moved to California and trained a cheerleader to fight vampires, demons and the forces of darkness.
She left him when he switched to tea 😂😂😂
I got a real surprise when he popped up on Buffy! I thought what the heck?
I remember these ads being a huge deal when I was a boy. The whole country was seemingly gripped by the saga of the Nescafe coffee lovers.
@gaslitworldf.melissab2897We got them in Canada 🇨🇦.
@gaslitworldf.melissab2897 Do you still watch was much tv or are you now an internet fiend? I'm always interested in how tv fiends' habits changed with the arrival of the internet
People couldn’t wait to see the next installment. It really was a vibe
When Buffy started I was like “Hey it’s the guy from the coffee commercials!” lol
I never made the connection until now, and I was a huge Buffy fan, lol!
So did Sarah Michelle gellar at the audition! She was apparently bugging him about it, asking questions and being really annoying and the casting team loved how he was trying not to show his irritation!
This is how adverts should be made, with a story that keeps you wanting more
This was certainly an unusual prequel to Buffy the Vampire Slayer...
Giles had a side gig
Giles was hard up at the time. He needed the money from these to pay his way into the Watcher's Council.
In Graduation Part 2 episode of Buffy, Giles actually makes a comment about coffee after Xander gives him a cup. It was an acknowledgement of these commercials
Ripper? He hardly knew'er!
After hearing Sydney Pollack describe Kubrick’s obsession with these commercials, I can’t stop noticing its rather blatant influence on Eyes Wide Shut.
I remember these commercials when they aired on TV. They always ended with a 'cliff hanger.' Very popular here in the US.
Canada too. Well I don’t know how popular they were, but I remember then
@@mackenzie98 I live in Canada and I loved them.

Yes! I wish they continued them on.

the dinner was a Pot Noodle

That campaign was incredible, nothing like it today, and it still works.
You got that right. I live in Canada and I used to watch it on US TV. Gillette Razor's The Best A Man Can Get written by and sung by John Parr (St. Elmo's Fire) was amazing.
Yes but in the 1980s there was a few of these. A narrative intertwined with a product. Oxo Garvey had the family.
The only advert I ever looked forward to to follow the storyline ❤

I don't know whose idea it was to cast Sharon Maughan and Tony Head as the leads in this advert but, excuse the pun, it was pure gold.
Imagine what her child Alice Eve would’ve looked like with Head’s features to boot?
Helen of Troy worthy…
omg i loved these commercials..a soap opera i9f i ever watched one..wow the chemistry between those two rivaled laura and luke!
For the younger audience : AD-viewers (at the time) actually wrote in and suggested how the ad-campaign "should develop".
why couldn't they just write in the comments
@@midinerd What comments? These were TV-ads, long before the proliferation of RUclips et al.
These were the best commercials ever!
Kathy Jarvis I loved them too!
Me and my mom tuned in to these commercials like episodes of a soap opera. Such a cool advertising idea. Never seen anything like it since.

I grew up watching those commercials, I'm so nostalgic! Probably my favourite commercials of all time.
The ad company that thought of this was GENIUS!!!
omg that ending..never knew a commercial could warm my heart like that
The writers should've just went ahead and either made this a tv series or a movie.
There is a U.K. book based on this couple called Love Over Gold.
@@rippersspot they should've made it into a tv movie
Wow! Thanks for the info. Nora Roberts couldn't hold a Candle to these two.

No. Perfect as it is.

Remember the first two adverts.
They should do more commercials like this again.
You should watch the Sakeru Gummy ads series from Japan. More on the comedic side but enjoyable nonetheless.

Do you have the link?

The coffee cup sets used in these ads are classy and beautiful I wonder where I can purchase from ?
In times like these, I’d like to see the adverts have a reboot, but with Toilet rolls instead.
Coffee at a dinner party, are you planning on having your guests over for breakfast as well ?.
Better than anything Lucasfilm has put out in awhile.
