Bakkies (pick ups) are a fundamental part of South Africa life and culture for practical and even symbolic reasons , so not a surprise they get more advertising than car there. Many of such advertising are imported, so they lack a certain salty south african humor.
The HSBC one was SORT of banned, but only because of the "World's Local Bank" tag, ALL of those were pulled; as they werent - and still arent, a local bank. I dont know how many complaints were made, but the tag line had been used for YEARS at that point.
Looks up one ad “It didn't hurt that there were over 100 complaints lodged in New Zealand due to its use of 'obscene language' which led to the ad being banned between 4:00-7:30pm, though Toyota elected to run it after 8:30pm from April 1999. Funnily enough, the ban only held up over the ditch; Aussies were unbothered by 'bugger'”
@@azairvine He means the ads that say Bugger many times (that this video cuts out) that showed in NZ and were considered legendary, that gained many complaints that weren't upheld. He made no claim as to their origin, only that in NZ they were legendary. But hey. Like the Mitre 10 ad - "Aussies.. No surprises there."
@@iceymonster4675 I honestly don't even know what I was trying to say, but it was undoubtedly an attempt at some kind of obscure wit that no one (including me apparently) would understand 🙄
@@azairvine All good my bro, no offense intended on my part - check out the Mitre 10 ad if you haven't seen btw, it was a light-hearted jab. Not sure if that one got banned or not either, it's been like 20 years since it was on TV
That first Dorito one - that doctor I swear is an Australian woman from and Australian skit comedy show back in the 90's, Comedy Company or Fast Forwards... I swear it's her and she's put on an American accent for the ad...
Multigenerational toyota hilux ads nice. True story: bought a 7th hand 34 year old hilux with 600k kms and on my way home did 200km with no brakes. Didn't die and still carries 3 tonnes of payload.
Basically, this is mostly just an extended ad for Hilux, pretending to be banned videos. The Doritos opener was funny, though, and the closing ad would certainly put people off having children.
I carried my daughter doing that out of a Dave and Busters once. I got a lot of dirty looks and I'm surprised nobody called the cops because it legit looked like I was kidnapping a kid. That was maybe 6 or 7 years ago and she hasn't done it since. I later had to go back to pick up my wife and sons since they got left there.
Robo-Chick does exactly what every classic car owner wants to when some doofus gets too close and scrapes keys, rings, jean studs, along panelwork. Definitely a goal kick.
Adverts from South Africa presented here were never banned. I remember them well. I stayed in SA for 27 years and say this: they have one of the best TV commercials in the world.
Bro that second to last one!! Lmaoooo. I got a feeling that was how rick an morty interdimentional cable episode got the mcsneeze car commercial idea from lol
Why was the Heineken advert with the four blokes freaking out in the walk in fridge banned? It was shown in the UK quite a bit, as was the HSBC ad with the eel dinner in the Chinese restaurant.
The two bulls driving around seems like something they would get sued or complained over because some dude bought the truck and then drove off a cliff and died thinking he'd be fine.
For the condom ad, just introduce yourself to a cashier and agree to secret cod where the cashier will know you want to return certain items you don’t want to purchase. Maybe this could strategic placement those items at the front. :-)
Nah I’m good. Found something else that was funny instead. But if you are talking about the beer one that wasn’t banned either. That was on for a long time. It was just clickbait.
Bugger ad was never Banned in Australia...I mean it was our ad...so! But yeah most of the others are Tame and would never had an issue here. Some countries censors pretty soft TBH!
I found none of these ads offensive and that they should be banned. Some of them had me in stitches back when people had a sense of humor and didn't worry about hurting other people's feelings.
I was in advertising in the eighties, and we would watch subliminal and often cringe inducing advertising for examples. Does anyone remember Joe Camel's nose?
Minus a couple of breaks this is one big Toyota commercial.
Bakkies (pick ups) are a fundamental part of South Africa life and culture for practical and even symbolic reasons , so not a surprise they get more advertising than car there.

Mostly one big Toyota New Zealand commercial...
No worries, the ads are funnier than the programs.
Yup, and the Toyota earned every one of them!
Not fkn wrong.
Not a single one of these were banned. They all just ran their course and they moved on to the next commercial.
The HSBC one was SORT of banned, but only because of the "World's Local Bank" tag, ALL of those were pulled; as they werent - and still arent, a local bank.

Those "Bugger" ads are a legend in New Zealand. There were official complaints but none were upheld. None of those were banned.
You mean those Australian Hilux ads? 🤫

I grew up on all those ads back in country Victoria in the '80s '90s....
The last one should be mandatory viewing from grade school onward.
A lot of girls will act like the little boy when you tell 'em "No kids". I think we should make it a double bill.
Some very funny ads! The last one is savage! I think next time you should do an ad about a
Toyota Hilux; I can't remember the last time I saw one!
do they still make those?
The kid acts great in the tantrum ad at the end, lol
The wild boar in plate armor, with rocket launchers riding a motorcycle with his chimpr friend killed me 😂😂😂
“Out of the way, sheep shagga…” priceless 🤣❤️🇷🇴
That's probably the line that got the commercial banned.
"Whot? Well whodya expect him to shag? A non-sheep? You some kinda pur-vert?"
Typical New Zealand slang.

The Heineken one with the guys acting like girls was hilarious
I loved those adverts 😭🙆🏿♂️😂😂
It was not banned. It was on tv in the Netherlands.
Yeah i remember that one too
"walking fridge" - the second one is missing!!!!!
Heineken - The Tube is a follow up
04:00 the baby saying "bugger" Killed me
Bro these NZ Toyota ads gave me serious nostalgia😭💀

that last one cracked me up
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
They were mostly hilarious. The second from end, that crazy drive through forest was the best :-D
I remember the 'bugger' commercials, l still laugh at them.

Those are the tipe of adds we want to see! It grabs your attention and keeps you bound without Skipping!!
These were from a time when you couldn't skip ads 🤣🤣🤣
Fast And Curious In RSA, great content I really liked it
New title: "17 Hilux commercials and a couple random others"

love the kia forte 2014 commercial. totally relatable
So funny, I use to love the Toyota BUGGER Adds 😂
Now I think I NEED to buy a Hilux.
Those New Zealand adds are the best.
"We'd like to draw your attention to the front seat, which is big enough for two cows." What a selling point.
It's the US version.
*4 cows
Why was the Heineken advert with the four blokes freaking out in the walk in fridge banned? It was shown in the UK quite a bit, as was the HSBC ad with the eel dinner in the Chinese restaurant.
That condom one is GLORIOUS 😂😂😂
Ahh yes the good old days when commercials were actually entertaining.
You have a very low form of humor, haven't you?
when do we get a Hilux ad that shows how to mount an AA gun??🤣🤣
Nah, no AA Gun, try a Gatling gun, one of the new high-speed ones!
This is one big Toyota Hilux commercial scam, right?
Those are all good commercials, especially for the Toyota Hilux.
But the very last one should be seen by every single person in the world.
The two bulls driving around seems like something they would get sued or complained over because some dude bought the truck and then drove off a cliff and died thinking he'd be fine.

That HSBC advert didn't get banned. It ran for ages on British tv.
Those dogs will be in my nightmares
I remember the Heineken one. I didn't know it was banned. We saw it in Canada
That first one with the Doritos did make me laugh. Lost interest with all the HiLux adverts. Doubt any of these were banned.
but you really have to watch again for the very last one

Where were these adverts banned? Only a few seem to have anything 'bannable'.
I found none of these ads offensive and that they should be banned. Some of them had me in stitches back when people had a sense of humor and didn't worry about hurting other people's feelings.
I wonder where that Heineken commercial was banned. I remember seeing it several times on tv when that one aired. It wasn’t banned here in Canada.
I honest to god had to watch this over and over because my vision was blurred by the tears of laughter.
the first Ad, did air in South Africa
I remember seeing in tv first one and last one.
thanks for sharing my support to bless you all
This has more toyota commercials than I see on tv in a year or two.
That one at 5:00 is great, and I got to experience first hand in China! The food sure was good at least, and I was stuffed!
0:01 I knew that ad when i was little 😭
I remember some dodgy Toyota Hilux ads. You should consider including one of those in the next complation.
Every one was genius! The Toyota ads were brilliant!👍🏼
Brilliant- if they were like that on our tv channels, then I might start watching them.
NONE of these were banned.
That last one should get UN funding ...
Seeing all these Toyota Hilux commercials makes me wonder why they can’t bring the Hilux to the US?
Great. That dog with the big eyes and the human mouth is gonna haunt me in my dreams.
That HSBC one is really funny.
Toyota, used in South Africa, taken from the world.
The HSBC ad wasn't banned. I watched it on TV plenty of times.
Ok the first one and the last one 👍, don’t see why any of them were banned. Maybe before their time?
the chicken of the sea ad has thai counterpart
The Toyota ad where the people said "Bugger" was not a banned commercial lol it was shown on tv 😂😂😂
I believe that the Doritos one ran during one of the Super Bowls
Why did these genuinely get banned
Sexism, cruelty to animals, catcalling, and so on. Anyway, the people who banned the love abortion more than condoms.
They didn't
Oh they have got to stop making animals talk like that, It's so creepy!
Inside every Aygo is a Hilux trying to get out (weeelll not the electrics ones ofc )
Not a single one of these were banned. You. You should be.
A boxer with a south african accent.. nice
The last one is priceless.
Banned? Some comments say otherwise. By today's standards they were very tame, because the whole world's gone nutz!
They never needed to go out of their way to sell Hiluxes
The Cattle Stop still works!
I was in advertising in the eighties, and we would watch subliminal and often cringe inducing advertising for examples. Does anyone remember Joe Camel's nose?
These were banned? Why? They're hilarious.
The first one was rightly banned.
Doritos is da bomb no🧢🧢🧢🧢💯💯💯💯
What was this a bloody advert reel for sodding Toyota.
Yeah, it's one big Toyota commercial. We can't even buy them here in the States.
That's sad, they're all over New Zealand! Every Farmer has one or two.
Not the Dutch add😂😂
Even the hilux one? It’s so harmless
Never saw any of them. Funny stuff. Thanks
Banned by?? The 'bugger' ads were never banned.
Strange that so many banned commercials were for Toyota trucks. What have those guys been up to??
Toyota sure got a lot of banned adverts lol
