10 Funny Language Learning Commercials

- I put together ten of very funny commercials about learning another language. I hope you enjoy them as I did. Normally I ask the viewers to tell me in the comments which one they like the most to see which commercial is #1. Sadly, I can't do it anymore because the last name I counted deleted its comment, now I don't know which one was last. But judging by the last outcome and by the comments I respond to daily, the winner is the last commercial Budweiser/Bud light, “No speak English” + “Language of Love”.
These ads are included:
1. Soesman Language Institute, “A Day Trip” from 1998 (I want to f*** you in the ass, featuring the song by the Outhere Brothers from 1994) by Y&R Netherlands

6. Berlitz, “Automobil on Fritz” from 2012 - as I discovered years later, this one is actually a spec commercial by the director Justin Lutsky
7. Berlitz Commercial with “The Club” (Join the club), the music is "Pont des Arts" by St Germain
8. Nintendo DS Japanese TV Commercial (For here or to go) with Nanako Matsushima, perhaps from 2007
9. Berlitz with “Laundromat” from 2005 (Learn another language) by Dennis Liu
10. Babbel with “Undercover Agent” from 2017 starring Divian Ladwa, the "truth serum guy" from Ant Man, as the Undercover Agent - some viewers asked me if it's him, I wasn't sure, so I wrote him and he was so nice to answer and to confirm it: "It is indeed me" - kudos to Divian!

@@IoT_ I understand. The same for actors trying to sound German, like in the video, they use certain stereotypes of pronounciation that are strange to native speaking people. And for me it's been some time since I learned Russian or spoke to Russian friends, so I appologize 😊

@@yeetthecookie It is from 2006 by the advertising agency Bates United Oslo. As far as I know, they had this German joke in Scandinavia forever, it seems to be widespread, as your experience shows. Well, depends on where you're from 😊 I'm from Austria and I kind of grew up with it.

Here in Brazil we had a tv ad for an english school, and it was pure genius.
First, a basic situation where knowing english would come on handy, and the student would nail it by perfectly communicating in english, without even noticing.
Then, the punchline and slogan: "Quando você vê, you are speaking". This is genius because the first half of that line is in brazilian portuguese, and mean "when you notice". So the full line points to the school's purpose: teach you english so good it would flow naturally. "When you notice, you are speaking". Brilliant marketing.

@@huananina In American English (I don't know if it is the same otherwise.), "on the fritz" is a way of saying that something isn't working. Like you might say, "My television is on the fritz". They were saying that it wasn't an emergency if his car was just not working.

With regards to the 9th one, all you really need to do is learn a couple of phrases in that language so you can reply to the people that are speaking in it, making them believe you've understood everything they said. They'll be scared sh*tless. I'm a Brit who works in a restaurant with several Romanian coworkers and my mum gave me this advice; can't wait to try it out ;)
And the line from the commercial may be the most important one: "Really?" If you ask that, people starte talking😊😊😊

Ha ha, same for me! The actor played it very well, making this little pause before saying "sinking" ... also the first guy with this almost stereotypical German pronounciation sets a perfect tone from the beginning - I love it and I'm glad you like it too, Vol deMort!

These were great! When I lived in South Africa in the mid-90's I saw the first one more than once in the movie theater before the movie - they didn't have ads on tv so you got 30 min of ads before a movie (Mentos, Peter Stuyvesant Cigarettes, etc)

I am Canadian born remembering a situation in which I was approached at a bus station by a stranger who wanted to hire me on the spot. He was wearing a turban and lots of rings on his fingers. Since that wasn't in any elevator at the station at the time there was a simple enough situation for me to exit the situation fast enough while I had only a local English accent. Wasn't to hard for me to figure out what kind of work he wanted me to do for him while I said no.

As a European I never had to really learn other languages since just watching cartoons in other languages taught me them. My main language is romanian, I learned Italian from cartoons, French from cartoons but mostly shows, and I learned a good amount of Spanish when I visited Spain for a couple months
