This game was made for Oliver. The way he just gets every fricking reference and science meme makes me really happy.
Well, he is an actual scientist! He probably understands the sci-fi concepts better than the actual writers. (No offense to Chris Avellone, he's the genius writer behind this game, Fallout 2, Planescape Torment, KOTOR2, etc. And he always does his research. But, he's definitely not a scientist!)
Nightmare mode with all survival mode modifiers turned on for your first time! That is amazing and I hope it isn't too frustrating lol
Probably one of the strongest intro of all games
Very bittersweet that you're playing this after the studio that made this game was shut down
rip arkane austin
20:12 Notices one miniscule minor detail about the entire beginning within .2 seconds that below .1% of all player notice.
Is this the same guy who doesn't see that a wand is "Shuffle: Yes" in Noita for 3 hours straight?
yes. yes, he is
thats oliver for you
Yep. Notice how he spent 20 minutes examining every single detail in the apartment, yet still somehow managed to miss the fairly obvious closet door with the big handle near the bed?
I had to re-watch it to understand what you meant. I never noticed.
We all know Oliver gets an occasional supercharge of insight followed by short term memory loss. Thats why I love watching him so much, I’ve never related to a lets player more 😅
42:07 "THAT DAMNED SUPERNOVA AGAIN"
imagine if he got to that point at 22 minutes in lol
Almost 30 minutes to complete the first pre-tutorial "objective" - putting on clothes. I love it, this is gonna be an amazing series. It really reminded me of my playthrough. I also had a moment of suspicion, like you with the 2032 and 2033 years - I took an item to the helicopter, but game didn't let me get it on board, so I left it on the landing pad. And when I "arrived" at Transtar, item was still there, exactly as I left it. Assumed it was a bug or something equally insignificant
Petition for Oliver to just start doing videos where he rambles about random astronomy things he thinks are interesting
14:52 i think this painting is supposed to be a representation of the great filter

Intensity means how much Oliver released his inner demon.
40:56 - The Coffeemug attack (Intensity 2)
45:07 - The dead woman and sound scared him (Intensity 1)
1:02:07 - Something moved behind him and absolutely scared him shitless (Intensity 3)
Honourable Mention:
26:28 - Oliver gets spooked by woman talking to him. (Intensity 0)
"inner demon", lmao
That "small break" he's taking might involve some underwear changes after that last jumpscare.
i cannot count how many times mimics jump scared me in this game XD i cant wait to see how badly they get oliver every time!
you forgot 26:28 and 26:39
Edit: also 30:28
I only count jumpscares. This is barely intense how he reacts to the woman
lol I get more scared from Olivers reactions to jump scares than the jump scares themselves
"2033 edition"
That is the most subtle foreshadowing I've ever seen.
Spending 20+ minutes in the apartment reading everything and paying attention to details?
Amazing
Rest in Power, Arkane Austin.
what happened?
LMAO Antoinette sokol is a dishonored reference I never noticed
literally in my head I said "sounds like sokolov" I didn't even put together that this was Arkane studios
Hey Oliver, for quick conversions between F and C there are some points where you can just flip the number. 04c = 40f, 16c = 61f, 28c = 82f and 40.1c = 104f. Can sort of help you get a ballpark, it's how I make sense of C as an American. 0c is 32f and the temperatures cross and equal eachother at -40.
I NEED you to upload the next 30 parts of this TOMORROW!
NOW!
Important since you decided to go full difficulty remember that when the game said to use your wits that is not just flavor text
Such a legend going straight for nightmare!
Fun fact: you never leave the building during your helicopter ride! From the stories perspective but also in the games engine.
Oliver getting jumpscared, its a classic.
48:12 "Am I even Morgan" I just love this dude. SO hyped to binge the series
It's actually very refreshing to watch someone who examines the environment so thoroughly, this game looks gorgeous and there's so much STUFF so I'm glad to see it being appreciated when most people making videos or streams would be too afraid of "boring their audience" to stop and take a minute (or several) to enjoy the scenery and flavor text. I myself don't go as slowly as I probably should sometimes so it's nice to catch some things I missed when I played
I mistook the name of the game for "Stray".
Was very confusion when we did not start as a cat.
Oliver being over confident and turning the difficulty higher for his first time playing the game didnt go well last time…😂😂
TBF Prey is built for him. My first playthrough, I noticed "neuromod manufacturing" on the map and decided a heist was my first objective. Turns out you can break in there quickly if you try hard enough, discovered how to manufacture them, dumped all my early points into doing it effeciently and got quite a few neuromods before ever stepping into Morgan's office (I recycled everything that wasn't nailed down in the lobby). The whole game is like that, you can Big Brain through things.
Omg I've never noticed the book year discrepensy, thats such a neat detail
An SKU is a Stock Keeping Unit. Basically a common term in logistics for the minimum shipping quantity for a product. Like a box of something.
This one of my favorite games when it comes to world building. I can't wait
Fun fact: Roger Penrose believes consciousness might be quantum.
"i can always change the difficulty right?" looks at terraria...... well... 😛 but yea the controls + pixel art did make that game a bit rougher
I just commented about this too lmao😂😂 he gets a little over zealous with difficulty sometimes huh? I started watching him recently and he gets his ass kicked so much lol
@@Aloverofthefinerartz he likes a challenge but also wants to do blind and terraria has a lot of things working against it for both those mindsets lol. and even though i enjoyed it the graphics do hold it back in being able to see whats going on sometimes. and hardmode having curses that negate your defense really pissed me off when i was playing because i was trying to be tanky. so for him not wanting to look things up trying to boost his defense seemed to have no effect and not knowing he could just start over on normal with all his gear so he could technically catch back up to the point of progression in 1 stream... but oh well. he wasnt feeling it and honestly hes enjoyed pretty much everything else hes done on the channel. only seen him quit BG3 and terraria so... and BG3 was due to not having enough time for such long in depth game
I’m only a few minutes in and Oliver being a nerd, astrophysicist man is silly :3
prey is a fantastic game. glad you're finally playing it!
... Will you or will you not look at your feet in the helicopter?
*watches the ride*
Aww =(
Your reaction to tests was spot on, but you missed a tiny detail once you were done with questions. Rewatch it =D
Nice reaction to the balcony window =D
Wait, can you see your feet in the helicopter? Or can you see some of the floor outside the helicopter and break the illusion? I'm very curious...
@@buttonasas You can see your feet, bopping to the BGM. It's immersive AF but people miss it all the time.
YES. I've been excited to see you play this for a while. It seems right up your alley.
Dont know if you have mooncrash but if you do it worth it to check it out after you finish main campaign. Its actually closer to original idea how gameplay should looked in developers mind, but they failed to implement it on a full scale game.
PREY!!! Yet again Oliver gets to play one of the best games ever made for the first time, I'm so jealous!
Have fun dude!! You're in for a blast!!!
That reveal is always the best!
I have NEVER been more excited to watch you play any other game. I'm so hyped. Hope you enjoy it!!!
I´m so glad this format returned! Thank you Oliver! I´m so exited!
Or, as a great SAM could´ve said: EXCITEMENT=TRUE
I LOVE this game, and i'm sure you're gonna love it too! can't wait for more episodes and you screaming at scares!
I’ve been looking for a blind survival mode play through for ages! Somehow you always deliver Oliver!
So glad you picked this up. It's probably my favorite immersive sim of all time.
Jesus man, just from one banger right into the next, this rules
Nice to see you starting a new series! I also know nothing about this game so it'll be fun to see where it goes along with you.
So excited to see you play this game its one of my favorites games
Such an underated game
Has my favorite video game weapon of all time aswell
This is a game about creativity and finding unexpected solutions to problems. Don't ever think the solutions right in front of you are the only ones! Have fun oliver!
MY BODY IS SO READY.
THIS IS SO DEMON HO BOI
Good choice.
YES! This is one of my favorite immersive sims of all time, SUPER excited to see how you think of it!
"I gotta take a quick break" aka "I gotta go change my pants" 😂
11:00 the "quantum microtubules in the brain" stuff is actually from a theory put forward by *the* Roger Penrose, and there has actually been some recent developments that are in support of this theory. Very interesting stuff, I highly recommend reading up on it. :D
Lets go!!!!
You are absolutely the best person to do an LP of this game, glad you picked it. (I do still hope you go for Cyberpunk and Alien Isolation sometime, they're both excellent and cover different parts of the science-fiction spectrum). Also if you end up liking this format of game, Bioshock, and System Shock are effectively this game's ancestors (to the point that I think initially this one was going to be called Psychoshock).
Also, the little blurb at the beginning of one of the books mentioning Antoinette Sokol I believe are a nod/reference to Arkane's other game (also somewhat similar, but more stealth focused) Dishonored, a 'natural philosopher' and painter Anton Sokolov.
EDIT: To answer your question; it's called Prey because Bethesda owned the license to another game called Prey, that they killed the sequel to (was being made by HumanHead studios, looked really cool) forever ago. Since they wanted to use the license and thought Psychoshock wouldn't have landed as well, they made Arkane slap the name on there. (Do not quote me on this, it's been a long time since I read about it.)
The original name for this game was Typhon (per Raphael Colontonio)
Wow. I’m so excited to see Oliver play Prey! This is one of my favorite games that has a terrible name. He points out how he doesn’t understand why the name is Prey at the beginning too, which seems very appropriate for him.
Very worried about the choice of difficulty though! Oh man, it’s going to be intense!
So glad you do your own thing Oliver. I hope that you can stick with it for a while.
oh lol, Antoinette Sokol... Nice reference to other games from this studio
HELLLL YEAH PREY RULES
Oh god, that crosshair positioning would drive me ballistic.
The only other game I’ve seen with a crosshair like that is the first couple halo games.
It's extremely easy to get used to it. Unless someone is a hardcore fps player or something, then maybe muscle memory can screw things up
you get used to it but yeah it suuuuucks
Oooh, I absolutely love that you're playing this, I feel like you're the perfect player for this game! I'm so ready, can't wait to see your reaction to so many things!
I think Oliver would enjoy No Many Sky (for a long and chill side playthrough that he can play as long as he wants and end whenever he wants) a lot! Hope he checks it out some time on his channel or on stream. Also pumped for some prey tho!
Huge fan of yours. Huge fan of Prey. Extremely glad to see this up here. Have a great time!
Prey time, LETS GOOOOO
Broooo, I just picked this game up again and played through it all after two years, and somehow, this man starts playing it :d
I'm looking forward to this!
My anxiety when he maxed the mods 😂 I am here for it! 🎉
49:17 language might have caused a misunderstanding here. [tldr below]
" ...exhaustion is inhibiting our ability to get any useful data," refers to the PRIMARY concerns. "That's to say nothing of the long-term damage" means that "even worse than (the exhaustion effecting our data" or "IN ADDITION TO" it. It does not mean the repeated installation and removal is related to the data.
tldr: Just that the exhaustion is problem enough on it own... BUT wait! There's more.
49:52 why would researching the effects of repeated istall/removal require this elaborate scheme to trick your character into thinking it's the first time? I don't follow the logic.
"crazy animal" 🤣🤣🤣
thats the best scream i have ever heard
SKU = stock keeping unit basically like inventory management id numbers.
Hi Oliver, I’m really excited to see you playing this game! It’s right in your interests. On a side note, a poster I was an author on was presented at the American Astronomical Society conference! One small step for me as an undergrad pursuing physics, thanks for being an inspiration :)
Thank you Oliver for suffering for our enjoyment
The painting with alpha and omega was referencing the omega barrier
58:54 this software suite appears to be some sort of Looking Glass Studios
11:21 This is known as the Hard Problem of Consciousness. Hard because the question is about whether there is something more to consciousness than what can be measured in the physical world (some kind of "spark") so by definition it cannot be answered using the scientific method. Panpsychism, the camp that you say you subscribe to (i.e. there is no "divine spark", consciousness just naturally arises from the collection of physiological signals that we experience) implies that what we call consciousness pervades every part of reality and poses some interesting questions, for example do trees and circuit boards have consciousness?
Lets gooooo Prey is an amazing game. Really glad to see you playing it Oliver.
1:02:08 i think i never seen someone so scared 😭😭
Gotta be the most genuine terror reaction I’ve ever seen
Aww yeah! 🎉
Ooo, new Prey let’s play!
Man this video is not long enough, can't wait to see more
It's an EYE button for inventory ;D
You are awesome man! Huge fan from Brazil. Keep it up!!
Quick reference for Fahrenheit "vibes"
70 is room temperature, 80 is warm, and 90 is a blistering summer day. 40-70 is a chilly autumn day, and below 40 you're probably wearing a heavy winter coat outdoors.
I mean, that probably depends on what the climate is where you live, right?
Isn't 32 F = 0° C? You wouldn't need a winter coat for that lmao
@@blackmage1276
That's very subjective.
@@ikmor exactly, ops comment was subjective as well.
As a floridian, 90 is a pretty reasonable summer day temp XD
21:00 Yes! Meat glue is real, and using it to glue chicken skin to salmon is a real thing that is done with it! :D
Fuck yeah I've been recommending it so often on different channels. Can't wait to see what Oliver has to say about this game
Prey playthrough in 2024......oh yeah I'm here for the ride! 😁
Y'know what blew my mind a bit was realizing how items have pretty specific sounds when you toss them around. A fire extinguisher rolling along the floor even sounds like a metal tube rolling on the floor. Kinda funny how the audio is mostly awful otherwise.
This is a fantastic game..so glad to see you experiencing it.
I came when I saw this
theres a wardrobe next to the bed you missed 😁
This gon be good
Watched this because I was tired, wasn't too interested, and then the moment that coffee mug got 'made' got me fully invested!
Didn't even get killed by the helicopter, 0/10
im so excitedddddd!! nightmare mode + survival is gonna be so fun
play the hardest difficulty while scared out your skin this will be interesting to see if you can think while being terrified 🤣
Holy shit, you are gonna LOVE this game.
Oh the hits just don't stop coming.
an easy way to translate farenheight to Celsius is take the number, - 32, then half it. that gets you pretty close, with the actual number being usually only 1-3 degrees Celsius higher than your final number.
8:23 Kurzgesagt Fermi Paradox video hype!
If you like Prey and especially its themes I suggest you play SOMA. Also, mentioning of the word "superluminal" reminded me of a game with similar name "Superliminal". It's a very good puzzle game, I think you would enjoy this one too
He has already played it on his own
@@HarrHarrHarrify SOMA? Well, Superliminal is still a good option then
This is going to be so good
IM SO READY!!!
Oliver: *(sets difficulty to maximum)* I am good at video games!
Also Oliver: *failed to win the Papyrus fight twice*
I don't have a good feeling about this, guys ;)
Jokes aside I am hype for this playthrough, even though I've never finished the game myself i watched at least 2-3 other people's runs and I would easily predict this will satisfy his craving for hard sci fi.
he didn't fail to win, he failed to realise he needed to win
