Oliver relating Alex to the fat guy question is one of the funniest thing I've heard him say, and the worst thing is, he's completely serious while saying it xD
I love that he's taking it seriously! He is immersed and it's the best. He's very entertaining when he's fully in it.
He's right too. You get an achievement for killing Alex called "push the fat man"
Fun fact, that particular blending of old-timey tech and sci fi is called Retrofuturism. It's an art style based around how the people of the past imagined the future.
"Zeerust" is a related term you'll see sometimes.
Just FYI: The game is just called Prey for marketing reasons. Bethesda forced Arkane to call the game Prey. The devs actually fought against the name and it has no artistic implications.
And about the FOMO for not opening the safe. Don't worry, you can go back when you feel like it.
They even bought the rights to the original prey just to use the name lol. I do like it though.
Is there any info on what they wanted to call it themselves?

@@kaurr8725 to be fair prey isn't totally out of place. You can say that its "prey studying their predators". And tie it to the dark forest cosmos theory. “The universe is a dark forest. Every civilisation is an armed hunter stalking through the trees like a ghost...” "In this ever-threatening environment, those who play the survival game best are the ones who survive longest."
@@beflyaudio Few names were thrown around during development, I know Typhon was one there is a mod on pc to change the logo to that also in the menu.
For the looking glass effect, the way that kind of effect is done (usually) is by having a second view point for the player which is actually at wherever is being seen through the looking glass, then wherever on the screen would normally show the looking glass, they instead show the other view point. They move the second view point so it's in the same place as if the player were actually standing there. Other than some weird stuff with frustum culling to make sure that your can't see things you shouldn't be able to, that's pretty much it! Sebastion Lague has a coding adventure video where he codes portals in Unity where he goes over this in more depth, I suggest that video to anyone interested

15:35 - A mimic appears right in front of oliver, but he managed to keep composure (Intensity 1)
18:29 - A scripted event startled him (Intensity 0.5)
24:50 - A sound startled oliver before the actual mimic appeared (intensity 0.5)
30:49 - A mimic appears from a cardboard box (Intensity 1)

Is the scale 1/10? Or 1/5? Those numbers seem low, though I haven't even reached the first jump scare so I'm not criticizing your decisions, just shocked they're so low!

I like that when Oliver looks at the picture of old man JFK, the only part that strikes him as odd about it saying that JFK lived to 115 is that it's longer than the average lifespan.

Like digital simulations are cool, but physical- with you actually being there with mechanics around you creating a tangible fake reality- is SUCH a great atmosphere

Just finished my egg sandwich breakfast/lunch! I have a nice full belly to lay down and watch.
This is one of those games that feel like they were made for Oliver. Loving every minute of this playthrough so far and can't wait for the next episode to drop!

@@samable668 Sure it is! They hinted at it before, but in game this is the first time seeing outside md why it's framed like that with the sound cues. Thus the visual reveal that you are in fact in space.

Glad you're enjoying the game. Don't worry about going slow many youtubers miss stuff because they rush (If you're that worried about going slow I wouldn't mind longer or more videos). Also I'd look at upgrades further ahead when deciding what to take since not all further skills are just straight upgrades of the previous one. Also may want to look into the inventory upgrade cause otherwise you'll be doing a lot of backtracking which doesn't impact your gameplay at all other than making it more tedious and boring so I don't think that should be an issue as a tip. Also in case you missed it (didn't sound like it clicked when you saw the dates on Kennedys poster) J.F. Kennedy survived the assassination attempt and is more or less the beginning point of where the timelines diverge. Also great job on the phantom fight that one gets a lot of people. You're doing surprisingly well so far considering you selected the absolutely highest difficulty but we'll see how things go in the future.

Welcome to Oliver's channel! Just a heads-up, Oliver considers any suggestions to be backseating. He likes to figure absolutely everything out organically on his own. He's happy to hear how you are enjoying the playthrough but 100% he doesn't like tips and suggestions.

2:25 you can see marks on the floor in the opening also due to the walls shifting.
Just to point this out there NoClip has made a few videos on Prey and its development even one to the opening alone. Should check them out after the finishing the game, or the huge amount of video essays on the game itself definitely not obsessed with this game, no sir.

@Ghost_Hybrid one more question... have you seen it? For all we know, it's a comedic pop-dance routine with all the principal characters. Oliver would love that, as would I. Maybe it's a trailer for another game or a slideshow of the dev team working on Prey! An unknown piece of content isn't a spoiler. It certainly won't be anything at all to oliver if he doesn't have a reason to sit through, record and presumably plan to include all the credits unedited. I gave a heads up to stay for post credits. ~~I apologize for instigating.~~ I do not want to argue either and won't be returning to this thread. Like the first area where you can go through all the rafters on the ceiling and he didn't even try. Most gamers i watch test every boundary when they start a new game. It's called PLAYing a game!
