      on the flipside, books are nothing but fuel for a fire and a fire hazard if you need to escape your home for some reason. ditto for cleaning up a flood or just cleaning in general. when you have less stuff, you have to clean less stuff. that gives you more free time to spend doing what you love which ironically could be reading those books haha. but you can go digital on an iphone or android and not even need a kindle.

      Varietygirl1 People think decluttering means like getting rid of dresser or something. No literally little stuff that sit around anyway or clothes that never get worn in rotation. They get analyzed, I debate it’s value after 3 weeks and I declutter. Little phone charger cords, phone charger outlets, books ive read through, or thinking you have to keep the coupon paper with the code written on it when you literally just have to take a picture of it and recycle the paper.

    • @jaetok
      @jaetok 5 лет назад +1

      JAN KHALABI Who said I’m replacing things. Even if I am, it’s with things I use daily and find value in. It’s not a puzzle you can play with over and over again (also...board games? Ugh throw it out lol no seriously see if you even remember how to play it after you blow the dust off of it) you simply declutter. Even seeing that. Your brain feels like it’s shredding a file of overloaded responsibility to something that has zero value. Here’s a soothing practice to get started. Clean out your wallet/pocketbook. Remove the extra limbs we call “trinkets” from your car keys. Just your hand being able to grasp something that’s been the same for so long and is now different. It just feels good inside. Without sounding too floaty and cliche. It’s just fact.

    I love this. I remember a video by Jenny Mustard, in which she said you're not obligated to get rid of everything you own because you're supposed to keep what brings you joy. And then she explained in which aspects she wouldn't be a minimalist, because she had too many of some objects. I've been trying to declutter for years now and I've made progress, but it definitely is a skill you need to master. Even then, things I love like my art supplies and school books I still keep, because it wouldn't bring me joy to have just one brush or read only from my laptop (also i have a million scarves).

    Had you heard about low time preference and law of marginal utility? They seem like describe the concept of minimalism with accuracy, but 250 years ago. Austrian economists were talking about that repetitively all the time, especially how capitalism, in its natural form, is about savings and intentional decision making, not consumerism, after all capitalism is about capital accumulation, not capital spending.
