Your channel has definitely opened my eyes, Matt! Thank you!
thanks matt.. i am minimalist now for 7 years. i am one of the founder of the group in my place cebu , philippines.
the video quality is brilliant.
Matt D'Avella hi I would love to be a minimalist but I’m a teenager, share a bedroom and my family definitely won’t become minimalists. Any tips to at least make a little change in my life? Thx
Damn right the Rock picture stays.
From the time he started I was just looking at that pic. If he had removed it I would've flipped
Me thinking: "Don't you dare throw away The Rock picture !!! "
Read the comments before it came up in actually thought mountain rocks😂 now i get it yes there would be outrage😂😂😎
I'm a minimalist because I can't afford anything else
lol same
most of your wealth goes to israel and the banks anyways :)
@@naturecollision You have clearly never been in Israel :)

You’re the first minimalist who has explained it in such a way that it’s made me realise I fill my time with stuff because I find it hard to focus on myself
He said "i had 97 thousand dollars...
...in student loans"
E: no i dodged that bullet and graduated abroad with 50k in savings
"I had a small loan of a million dollars...
... a student loan to be exact"
That is so much money, in France a year in a public uni isn't even 500 euros even when it's a masters, for my first year I paid 170 euros and got my money back because I have a scholarship
@@anadacosta4043 here in Germany it's almost free or completely free depending on the uni
@@anadacosta4043 In France we also earn around two to three times less (adjusting with the social security, maybe 1.5 to 2 times less) than in the US, depending on your degree.
at least he didn't study gender studies or that classic phd in underwater basketweaving. i assume he got a degree that taught him real skills for the real world.
That red balloon in the background is giving me some strong Pennywise vibes. Great video Matt!!
omg i was jsut thinking that
And we never heard from Matt again...
Matt D'Avella Pennywise could probably use some of your minimalism tips tbh. Dude’s been hoarding in the sewers for years 🤦♂️
oh hey, its the goal guys, love your videos too
@@ok.7014 yes, me too
Everyone can have their own definition of minimalism and thats ok!
My definition of minimalism is people who love slicing 5 year old girls' fingers off. Is *that* ok?
@@arsality i thought that was zerowaste! I was always confused because theres *a lot* of waste
i personally define minimalism as owning as much stuff as i possibly can. it's not hoarding though, i define that as owning the least amount of stuff possible, and that's ok! 😂
No it's not. That's a anti-definition.
@Lynda Lynda And you calling me a gamer is based off of what?????? I could say "just another depressed midwife" and it would be just as relevant
All your videos are aesthetically pleasing and peaceful. They are wonderful.
I used to be a hoarder. now I'm a minimalist......I'm so much happier now
Same as me, saved tons of money too.
Do you live alone or with your family?
@@AasthaHingar alone
@@myvenusinuranus I see. Living with family and incorporating minimalism is hard.
@@AasthaHingar You just have to find your own space among your family. A place to keep clutter free allowing you to do what you want there and nothing else.
Love what you said about living based on your OWN definition of success, and not doing things just to impress those around you. Really great video!

@Dopamiine Perhaps.....
I really cried when he talked about the books. I'm a minimalist at heart but somewhere I always felt guilty with having books and art I love and everyone else marie kondoing them away.
on the flipside, books are nothing but fuel for a fire and a fire hazard if you need to escape your home for some reason. ditto for cleaning up a flood or just cleaning in general. when you have less stuff, you have to clean less stuff. that gives you more free time to spend doing what you love which ironically could be reading those books haha. but you can go digital on an iphone or android and not even need a kindle.
if they have value in your life then keep them! it's not about depriving yourself of things that you love instead it is being mindful and aware of what you chose to purchase and bring into your life. Ofc having a kindle or online books may be less clutter and more sustainable but personally I love how books feel and look
I used the Libby app. Pair it with your library cards. Free ebooks you keep for 21 days at a time.
Books are sacred. They preserve knowledge and create an atmosphere of cozyness and much more...
Been there. Went to the depriving side of things and now I’m realizing it somewhat did create suffering. Now slowly finding the balance for myself to ensure I’m doing minimalism more suited for me.
Sorelle Amore love your vids..

Stuff and clutter stresses me out. The less things in my house, with minimal visual stimulation, the more relaxed I feel. This has also helped me to be able to afford purchasing beautiful key pieces that I really love rather than surrounding myself with a bunch of cheap stuff. Also, minimalism helps me focus on life rather than stuff!

To quote Fight Club: The things you own end up owning you.
We don’t talk about that.
That's so very true. If we are really mindful about the activities we do, we'll realize that most of the time, we are just taking care of the things we own. Cleaning up, dusting, repairing, searching, refilling, packing... Your life is possessed by stuff.
So true.
Very true.

“If you don’t create your own definition of success. Someone else will”
Love it! 😍😍😍
I declutter every 3 weeks. I can identify everything I own in my head.
RunningFromAdults wow! My goal right there 👍🏻 (kinda hard with two kids and a husband tho 😅)
Nice. I'm doing this from now on
Varietygirl1 People think decluttering means like getting rid of dresser or something. No literally little stuff that sit around anyway or clothes that never get worn in rotation. They get analyzed, I debate it’s value after 3 weeks and I declutter. Little phone charger cords, phone charger outlets, books ive read through, or thinking you have to keep the coupon paper with the code written on it when you literally just have to take a picture of it and recycle the paper.
JAN KHALABI Who said I’m replacing things. Even if I am, it’s with things I use daily and find value in. It’s not a puzzle you can play with over and over again (also...board games? Ugh throw it out lol no seriously see if you even remember how to play it after you blow the dust off of it) you simply declutter. Even seeing that. Your brain feels like it’s shredding a file of overloaded responsibility to something that has zero value. Here’s a soothing practice to get started. Clean out your wallet/pocketbook. Remove the extra limbs we call “trinkets” from your car keys. Just your hand being able to grasp something that’s been the same for so long and is now different. It just feels good inside. Without sounding too floaty and cliche. It’s just fact.

I just finished watching the documentary you directed on Netflix. Great job👍🏾 Afterwards, I literally cleaned out my dresser drawers down to half of what was in there, and will be donating tomorrow. Thank you
Thank you Matt, this video sums it up perfectly. I got into Intentional Living-ism last year before finding your channel however your videos are the ones I show people to explain stuff to. You are definitely one of my favourite creators on RUclips. 👍🏻
I love this. I remember a video by Jenny Mustard, in which she said you're not obligated to get rid of everything you own because you're supposed to keep what brings you joy. And then she explained in which aspects she wouldn't be a minimalist, because she had too many of some objects. I've been trying to declutter for years now and I've made progress, but it definitely is a skill you need to master. Even then, things I love like my art supplies and school books I still keep, because it wouldn't bring me joy to have just one brush or read only from my laptop (also i have a million scarves).
I have a million shoes I can't seem to get rid of. It sparks joy😂😂😂😂
I’ve been slowly trying to become more minimalist- but I also don’t like the word. I think “essentialism” is a much better way to describe it!
Great video Matt.

Loving your videos. Hint to everyone. If you want to be a minimalist do no buy for a year except for absolute essentials. You'll use up what you have and find it easier to get rid of things...
Find the clothes you love put them in a cupboard and try putting on all the other clothes to see if they fit or if they are past their best.. I do this as and when and it helps me find clothes that fit well and makes getting ready a lot faster.

Had you heard about low time preference and law of marginal utility? They seem like describe the concept of minimalism with accuracy, but 250 years ago. Austrian economists were talking about that repetitively all the time, especially how capitalism, in its natural form, is about savings and intentional decision making, not consumerism, after all capitalism is about capital accumulation, not capital spending.
Definitely headed towards being a minimalist !
