@@Hidden.SufiRealities-smc I wouldn't say it was enough, I'd say it was more of a stimulus. Been working on a reprogramming old patterns myself, so it all makes a lot of sense.
I would like to share what I do, in case someone finds it interesting:
- The day before, plan what you want to do and be realsitic, leave room for failure (example: study 5 units, but doing 3 is fine)
- Wake up at the same hour everyday. It doesn't have to be very early, just the same, to build a habit and a sense of purpose.
- Identify what you like, and use it as a reward. If you are binge watching a series that you like very much, try to earn the joy of watching it. This is important so as to not fall in a pit of guilt and malaise, where nothing makes you happy. You can for example start by dedicating 30 min of work (maybe with a Pomodoro and relaxing music) and then playing 30 min of Animal Crossing. This makes you enjoy your relaxing times, and not feel guilty. As time goes by, you can maybe dedicate the whole morning to work and the evenings to yourself.
- Set your space as you like. This is obvious, but very important. Have a shower and get dressed, don't be with your pijama all day, ventilate your room, do your bed, free your desk from papers and clothes and THEN sit down on your desk. Turn your phone off or put it in another room. And just start doing work. Just starting is a huge step because it breaks the ice, you find that it is not as horrible as your brain put it in advance, and just do as much as you can. Sitting in your chair instead of laying in bed makes it easier, trust me.
- Find ways to enter the flow state: if your house is not quiet, try to put soft music in the background (Sunday Study music playlist by Thom Frank, Lo-Fi streaming, classical music...), ambience videos (rain, white noise, library ambience, coffee shop ambience, etc.) or even no talking asmr. If you use the music that you like, chances are that you will get distracted by singing the lyrics or by a catchy part of the song, but you do you.
Hopefully someone finds any of these points worth reading. Keep going.
Thanks dude. That's pretty helpful. I'll try this today!
Useful tips! Thank you Javi

3- “Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.”

@Sarah Bailey Yep there's some truth to that as well. It's basically more about not being a Reactionary and just jumping into things without thinking and analyzing.
It's about the wisdom to know where to invest our time & energy, and where not to.
On the other hand, if someone is putting things off only because of laziness or misaligned priorities, then that might not serve them well and he/she might lose a lot of great opportunities.

When quiting coffee, having a hot tea is a good substitute for the making of the coffee as well as having a warm drink. It is not a replacement for coffee, just the action. I found this very helpful when I was quitting coffee. I eventually went back to decaf, because if I miss 1 day of regular=headaches, I.Hate.Headaches! I have a 30 day challenge for you: replacing curse/cuss words with other descriptive and enhancing language that can be repeated to a child. BellaEssentialLiving hi internet friend 👋 just wanted to let you know - I know your pain with quitting coffee! For me, the headaches used to hit in 12 hours of no coffee...18 hours and it was a full-blown migraine!
Question - what cuss word substitutions are you using? I need to quit that too💚
@@hindenburg2006I started cussing because of a very difficult time in my life that I thought I had no control over. I hated that so much in myself that I would catch myself starting to say it and would apologize if it came out or just stop mid-cuss. I relied on prayer and learning to just not speak: maybe you've heard: if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything. There is also the proverb, a foolish man uttereth all his mind, but a wise man keepeth it in til afterward. Occasionally a "oh, poopies" or "boogers" comes out, but it's a far cry from cussing. Like everything, it takes practice. Thanks for asking 😊

I've learned the hard way that putting too many things on my to-do list leads to procrastination. I have had to narrow it down to things that are actually doable by putting them on an hourly schedule
So true
15DollarFit lists never fucking work for my miserable ass
I read a great article: instead of having a “to-do” list, have a “done/completed” list, that way when you write down a completed task you can cross or tick it off straight away. At the end of the day you will feel accomplished as you now have a list of fully completed tasks 👍
@@caitlinwest272 I never read this anywhere before..but I do this .it feels better than not getting your to-do list completed.
15DollarFit im a to do list junkie and i have done a lot of technic in updating my to do list..using reminder apps, excel, word etc. But now i’ve been using this technique where i keep my to do list by date in ms word (the details one), then i update it in handwritten to do list (every task should take about 3-5 words only). The idea is to immediately trigger u what to do rather than digesting the long sentence on what u supposed to do.so shifting between task is very smooth and made easy. Just few second glance then u know what to do next already. Owh if u got 10 or more things to do, u can prioritize by ticking top 3 next to your list. Once finish, erase the tick n start ticking other until u finish striking through all task/ things to do. So yeah, handwritten to do list really help.

Just Some Guy without a Mustache honestlyyy
Nice to see you here aswell. And facts
you right
And it’s also giving us an excuse to watch RUclips for 25 hours a day
Honestly, what helps me with procrastination while working from home for the past 8 months is:
- Having Routine and pushing through that routine no matter what
- Having a designated work space at home. And having 2 extra spots where you can work if you get tired of one spot.
- Letting the people you work with know you’re doing serious work and schedule time with them later in the day.
- Working 90 minutes, 30 minutes break sessions
- Taking 2 mental health rest days a week. Most of my work is mentally intensive where I sit and have to concentrate and be mentally involved regularly. So if we take a rest day from a physical workout regimen, why don’t we give our minds a break too? I also stay away from social media and reading the news on those days. My mental health days are either Wednesday’s and Sundays or Saturday’s and Sundays.
The 90 minutes one is interesting. What would you do if:
a) the work is less than 90 minutes?
b) you just did 90 minutes but you think the work is almost done
ArtAway Great Question! Obviously I would recommend to use your intuition. I find that an hour in is when I’m reaching my peak of the project I work on. So the additional 30 minutes gives me a chance to finish things up. When I’m done with the project, though, then I’ll take a break.
If I’m seeing after 90 minutes that I will finish the project in 5-15 minutes then I’ll see it through because I’m in that state of flow.
What helps is setting a timer so you can keep track of time.
For certain activities such as social media, I limit my time to those 90 minutes even if I haven’t gotten through everything I wanted to.
So I would say, identify which activities are most income-producing and with them you work until that task is finished.
Other tasks such as social media (which can cannibalise the time you would’ve spent on your income-producing activities) definitely limit them.
What is it that you do?
@@helzikinz I do pomodoro and it is quite effective, but with pomodoro you'll almost never reach the flow state, so I'm interested in trying 90 minutes approach.

Me: procrastinates by watching a video that helps me avoid procrastination
Am I the only creeped out by the fact the second page is filled with repeating lines of "Everything is fine. Everything is fine. Everything is fine."
i would be. but I got those too.
that's exactly what i was wondering
@Kayla F I guess you've never seen The Shining.
@Kayla F Yea, that was meant as a joke, if you'd seen it. The main character buys this old hotel and goes to stay there with his family and it's haunted. He's trying to write a book but he starts to unravel. His wife goes to check on him one day and finds he's just been writing line after line saying the same thing "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy."
But when I see someone writing "Everything is fine." That doesn't come off as a positive affirmation type thing. That reads as self-soothing, and the repetitiveness is troubling.
I mean, do what you gotta do. But let's not sugar coat that. It wasn't creative, it was a goof. If that was intentional and meant for the viewer it would have been written in large block lettering. One time, covering the whole page.
@Kayla F I don't agree that everything is subjective. We all have our interpretation, but we inhabit a shared reality. Some things need to be commonly accepted in order to have a functioning society.
Saying someone is being creative, when they are very clearly having a major malfunction is sugarcoating.
When someone says "Everything is fine" it is usually far from fine. And if it was "fine", why isn't it good? People say something is fine, or that they are fine, because it isn't good.
So if you repeat the lines "Everything is fine" over and over, it follows that Everything is Not Good. And it wouldn't take much of a leap to think that given the amount of repetition maybe something is seriously not good.
When the video started, I was like “did he go to a barber”. Good job!
Matt's been procrastinating so hard with his phone, that his beard grew back completely from 0:00 - 0:03 😂😂😂

MacBooks are tanks. I've thrown mine across the room and against the wall and it barely scratched. And I'm typing on it right now.
@@diinm bro WHY would you troll your macbook against the wall???
For me, what helps eliminate procrastination is to start with a video class relating to my job, this helps my brain get focused where I need to be mentally and gets me fired up for the day. What helps me stay focused while working, now when we’re all locked in together especially, is similar to yours, only instead of noise cancelling they’re just regular headphones, and I actually need vocal music or a podcast, I need words in the background.
The reason is I have a mind that can be anxious and likes to find things to be afraid of or to worry about especially when I’m trying to focus. So I find that if I have background vocals it seems to keep that part of the brain busy on them and I can focus entirely on my job and anxiety just doesn’t come up that way.
Sometimes I think that my anxiety is like a toddler in the office cubicle; so long as you can keep that child busy, you’ll be able to really focus. Otherwise, forget about really getting a lot done. With these methods I usually do super well. The key is not to allow myself to click or check on other things. ;) thanks for the video!!!
Think about how much thought goes into Matt's Videos, he films his videos on friday and edits on mondays, so the to-do list was written on friday for 3 days in the future, so that it seems like he wrote it in the week we are going to watch it in.

1:29 dude, you’re risking it too much in this vids 😂 true dedication 👍
it's weird how I never thought "wow this guy makes a lot of coffee" until he explicitly mentioned it. thanks, matt for your elite coffee making
I am an introvert
But society as we know it doesn't allow me to avoid all sorts of group work so I taught myself to be super social and imitating extroversion when I have to.
I am a naturally chaotic person. My creativity thrives in mess. Yet I have to teach myself to be the person that works on a clean desk with a plan and a to do list. Because that's a skill I need in order to navigate in the society that wants me to be productive. And videos like those have been helping me tons to keep my shit together. So thank you for that!
Also your haircut is dope
literally the first thing I said "this guy been to the barbershop!" I think you did a great job with your cut. Also, I am definitely gonna get back to writing my to do list, I've definitely been getting off task. Great video as always Matt!
when this was posted while you're procrastinating lmao
DABEARS34 😂 relatable
PERFECT TIMING!
Exactly... 😂
@@luscious_sky I totally agree 😂
I'm always procrastinating something.
Are you ok mate?
That's a lot of ' Everything is fine ' written in that diary.
It really is
It's from a video he posted a few weeks ago.
Ritwik Shah odd! Hereeeee’s Jonny!

@Swapnil Chakraborty Personally not sure what everyone is so unhappy about, I am living my best life! Long may it contijune.
Coffe ritual to start working and headphones to jump into a solitude mode - that's what I also recently found and happy to get a confirmation of these lifehacks here. Thanks.
I have basically the same set up for studying: coffee, writing down tasks in my planner, being alone, music,(I listen to the exact same playlists!). I also
1) set up a time goals for each day in form of countdown on my phone, it helps me to stay on track, as I was initially getting distracted every couple minutes. I pause whenever I stop working (coffee refill) so I know how much time exactly I spend working.
2) put the phone away far enough for me to have to stand up to get it. My lazy ass wins with want for distraction almost every time 😂
matt where’d you get that fresh ass haircut during quarantine lmao
Ikr fresh boi
Watch the end of the video 😌
@@MAKEDAofficial tnx lol
It’s called the toothbrush
I have been homeschooled since grade 8 and am now in my second year of uni which is all online anyway. Over the years I have developed my own routine like this to get me in the mood to do my school work. It can be as simple as clearing off your desk.
this guy actually dropped his laptop willingly on the ground to make this video. respect.
Nobody:
Matt: 5 things that help me avoid coronavirus
that's about right 😂
When he dropped his MacBook... I had a heart attack 😭😭🙈
I jumped in my seat 😂 I'd never do that with my laptop for a video
Yea that's what i was thinking. I could never focus to video again hahha
You think it really happened?
He's acting lmao.
I clean my house before sitting down and strt working, while listening to motivational videos like yours, thanks for the tips!
you caught me red handed Matt
Every week I feel like he does that to all of us 😂
Haircut is solid man! I desperately need one and my stylist told me to hold off so I don't royally mess it up. But I'd be happy with your results!
I FEEL the same about COFFEE. I love it, I love the ritual, I’m a writer and I enjoy it so much, I know I could write without coffee but I also know that such rituals are important.
Looking back to my uni life I've transformed from a "I have to do it now!!" kinda person to a "the deadline is in 5 min I can start in 2" kinda person.
Haha can relate... Now that I've been through the work system I've become more of 'the deadline was two days ago, I'll start it tomorrow' kind of person 😭
video starts
me: someone is cutting his own hair
me 2: no...Natalie wouldn't let him do that
end of video
Matt: I did cut my own hair
me: No one would've guessed it
me: about to procrastinate
youtube: yo girl, procrastinate with Matt D'Avella's video about procrastinate =))))
That counts as productivity (almost) 😄😄
Matts videos are educational. Hence, time well spent 😁👍
Discovering Hidden Time Wealth has been one of the best things I've done for my productivity. It feels like I’ve finally cracked the code to overcoming procrastination.
Matt: "Solitude"
E-minor: *screech*

@@lowiqshny don't deny your nature. you are just deluding yourself
I’ll watch it later 😁
i'm so glad he addressed the hair cut in the end, maybe consider leaving it to the pros next time 😂
Hey Matt, I'm French and your videos are not only interesting for what you say but they are so because you speak very quietly, every word is easy to catch, there are subtitles, ... It's really enjoyable when english isn't our maternal language, so thank you !! I wanted to tell it to you after tens of videos I've seen from you. :)

Wohoo, so deep and true
How does Matt have a fresh hair cut while we are all in quarantine??
@Trinder3467 It's that new mobile hair cut app. Maybe a new sponsor for the channel?

If you watch the video till the end, the mystery gets solved
@@Moosi_EN the question was ,How?
@@Moosi_EN Hey I watch all of his videos to the end. I just wanted to spice up the comment section a little bit.
