David Foster went into Long Beach to get a copy of Dolly's recording - the record store only had Linda Ronstadt's (from Prisoner In Disguise - 1975). David said when he heard it - he knew immediately what they could do with the song. When Dolly found out that they were using Linda's version as a template for their, she called David to give him the final verse which Linda hadn't used in her recording.

Lauderdale who loved rock, blues, & Beatles, Stones. Porter didn't do anything for me. But Dolly did and still does. She has always has been a true colossal talent, and a very sweet soul. Thank you Dolly for your wonderful music that has touched so many 💕.

Actually, this is Dolly's song.
Two of the most talented female artists of all time. The rendition of Whitney's will always be legendary. The writing of Dolly, plus the composition of David Foster plus the voice of Whitney Houston = epic. It's amazing how a song like this and Jolene can be sang in so many different ways. They are both very simple songs lyrically but have lasted so many years. That's the mark of truly talented songwriting.

volcrazy89- you obviously don't know how the Foster and Houston recording came about. They basically stoled Linda Ronstadt's arrangement, they just played with the melody line. David Foster went into Long Beach to get a copy of Dolly's recording - the record store only had Linda Ronstadt's (from Prisoner In Disguise - 1975). David said when he heard it - he knew immediately what they could do with the song. When Dolly found out that they were using Linda's version as a template for their, she called David to give him the final verse which Linda hadn't used in her recording.
