Just finished 25B AIT about 4 months ago. Everything he mentioned is still very accurate. However, there is 3 phases that determine the extent of your privileges (phase 4, phase 5, phase 5+). Phase 5 can be reached after your first 3 weeks, so long as you complete the prerequisites (soldiers creed, signal core march, room inspection, ASU inspection, pass PT test). Phase 5 is when you’re allowed to use consoles for gaming, you have less formations on the weekend (only 2, compared to the 4 a day you’ll have as a phase 4). At phase 5 and beyond you’ll be able to go to the gym and the px during the week, and you’re allowed to eat at the restaurants on base. At phase 5+ you’re allowed to go off base with a battle buddy, and you can be out a little bit later on the weekends. Great vid as always Matt, your videos were a big help prior to all my training and beyond!
My only suggestion is take as little as possible. In other words, take only what your recruiter says for basic training. I would recomend the same thing when you go to AIT. You will have a military issue duffle bag with all your Basic military clothing, and it will be stuffed full. Take only bare minimum civilian clothing. When I went from Basic to AIT, I had a small suitcase, about 12x8x18, with one long sleeve shirt, one polo shirt, 1 pair denim trouser, one pair khaki trousers two sets under wear, two pair of socks, one pair casual shoes, You can buy computers or radios at your AIT base. Don.t be the guy that went to the px after basic graduation and bought a trunk full of stuff and had to lug ot all around the airport when yo get to your AIT location. Same for when you travel to your first duty statiotn. You can buy new clothes when you get there and some of the people getting out or going to another duty station will be selling their cars, motorcycles, televisions, etc. cheaper.
I reported in OCPs. Basic was very different due to the COVID, which sucks, but I honestly thought the training was cool. I think the ACFT standards are minimum for all Basic posts, and then the standard all depends on your MOS. Your cadre at AIT will let you know the standard if you don't know it
At Ft Lee we could not use supplements. To have a computer, go out on the weekend in civies and whatnot we had to phase up. We were however allowed to smoke during the posted hours after the duty day with no stipulations other than that.

Hey Matt, not sure if you remember me (probably not no worries mate) the Army denied my waiver, but the national guard approved it, so I’ll be going to college while in the national guard, then will be commissioning as an officer afterwards, hopefully in active duty.
Thank you for all these videos it’s helping me out a lot I recently joined the army national guard and am going to basic in summer of 2021 and this helps me a lot telling me what to prepare for
Hey! One of my friends is there for AIT. She said I couldn't send food or hardly anything at all like Basic. Do you have any insight on what she can have or will want there?
You went to 25B AIT,? Nice, I'm going there after basic this summer. I'm debating bringing my AIT stuff when I go to basic, and get a lock for it when it's stored. Is that a good idea?
If you are going to AIT at Fort Eustis, the list of things that you can have is slightly different. Absolutely NO health/dietary/workout supplements (except for generic daily multivitamins) allowed AT ALL!! Even mio water enhancers are not allowed. NO TABBACO PRODUCTS ALLOWED AT FORT EUSTIS!!! And in the summer months, be prepared for a caffeine ban. No energy drinks at the barracks, and at the schoolhouses nothing with caffeine is allowed: coffee, sodas, teas, anything. Gaming systems like a ps4 or xbox are allowed on the weekends, but all gaming systems and tvs must be secured in a communal storage locker on the weekdays, and will only be released to you on the weekends. Musical instruments are allowed, but follow the same stipulations as gaming systems, and must be able to be secured in your wall locker at night during the weekend. Civilian clothing is authorized when you reach phase 5, which typically falls around weeks 5-10 of your training, and only on the weekends. And of course COVID-19 is shaking things like family visitation, and on post privileges up, with no AIT students being allowed off post currently. This will change as time goes on. (hopefully)
I also went to Jackson for basic. The worst parts are reception and red phase. After that white and blue phase are not that bad and are pretty fun and Red white and blue phase is really chill. Looking back on it basic was pretty fun, 68W AIT is what sucked... Hopefully your AIT is not as miserable as mine was. Good luck.
My ds in basic told me that their 11 series ait portion of osut was a good old ds walking all the way to the end of the bay, doing an about face and saying welcome to the ait portion of osut and gave them a half right face, front leaning rest position move command. Your mileage may vary because of this covid bs. Also his osut was shorter by 4 weeks
I'm in ait at fort lee right now. We got our phones because of suicide attempts in the company. We arent allowed to have any workout supplements, but that's probably based off our cadre. The computer privelidge depends on cadre as well unless your phase 5.
I'm leaving Oct. 13 to Fort Benning for basic training and doing my AIT there as well. I know we can't use our laptop at basic but, are we still able to bring it with us so when we get to AIT we have it already and can use it over there? Or should I just leave it and have my family ship it to me?
Is basic training the same for everyone no matter what you are going to do? For instance: would a musician have to undergo the same training even though they are going to spend their military career playing an instrument instead of firing a rifle? What about those who want an admin job? I have a music student who is thinking of auditioning for the US Army Brass Band, but some of the other videos (especially USMC basic training) are quite unsettling!
Hey Matt, I've been thinking about doing airborne, and I can't find any answers for my question anywhere. When airborne units aren't being used, do they get deployed as infantry until there's a mission where airborne is needed? Or do they stay in training until airborne is needed for a mission?
Airborne hasn't been used in combat for a long time, something like twice since WW2. They'll just deploy like any other unit, until they deploy, they're training.
OSUT stands for "One Station Unit Training". This means you will be at the same location your BCT took place for your AIT. Also, yes the grog is alcoholic, I'm pretty sure.
@@carll5413 If it is Alcoholic, is there anyway to get out of drinking it. I don't mind all the nasty stuff, its just the "possible" alcohol that is the issue for me
I start AIT November 22 and am wondering if I’d have to have another girl accompany me to gym because of the battle buddy system or if I can go by myself. Don’t want to lose years of gains... Would I be allowed to order a barbell for AIT?
So a week before my boyfriend left for basic his phone broke it wouldn’t turn on! Can I send him a new one or will they take it and not allow him to use it when it’s a day they can have their phones??
Hannah Jordan they are going to take it from when he receives it , but it depends on the drill sergeants whether or not they’ll let him set it up and use when they allow them to use phones (btw it won’t be much time anyways), most likely they’ll give it to him when he graduates, depending on his MOS, he’ll be able to have his phone in AIT
