Since you're in Kunming, make sure that you go to Dali and Lijiang. The streets on these 2 cities are like a maze. Don't get lost while walking on these streets.
Welcome back to China, and it is not a good idea to book very cheap hotel (say under 10 pounds per night) in major cities, usually just raise your budget to 20 pounds per night for hotel can make you stay in a high quality hotel, cheers!
Today I actually saw a report on this couple of RUclipsrs on a mainstream website in China. The content mentioned complaints about the lack of public toilets in China. In fact, there are many free public toilets in Chinese cities, but tourists may not be familiar with them and have not seen them. They can easily find them with the help of local navigation. According to my experience of living in Europe for many years, free public toilets are actually very rare. People usually go to bars to solve the problem (of course, they have to spend money on it).
Yeah! I live in Beijing and love how many public bathrooms there are. It's a bit annoying when people briefly stop in and say a bunch of things without really talking to locals. Thankfully this couple has spent a lot of time here and seems more cognizant.
I like your Scottish accent. To my ears, the Scottish accent is very charming, casual and friendly. The RP reminds me of a landlord trying to collect rent.
Streaming live could be challenging as connections may not always be stable. Also it takes away the immersive experience with your attention split between experiencing the moments and answering questions.
I am very excited about you guys coming back to China. I have been your fans since you first visited China. Hope you guys enjoy your journey in China, and I can't wait to see more interesting videos about you❤❤
Welcome back to China, looking forward to see your journey in China, love your videos, hope more people from Scotland watch your journey and visit this amazing country 😆
I used to find someone to sneak me to Vietnam by boat at this port because I didn’t bring my passport. 150 RMB for a round trip is still very good, but after the COVID-19 epidemic, border management is probably more stringent, and I don’t know if anyone is still trying to cross the border illegally.以前我在这个口岸是找人划船偷渡去越南的,因为没有带护照。150人民币往返,还是很不错的,但是经历了新冠疫情之后,估计边境管理的更加严格了,现在不知道还有没有人偷渡了。
Shane you didn’t spend some time in Lao Cai before you crossed the border to China. I live in Lao Cai. Also a trip to Sapa would have been good. Enjoy your travels.
@@Alan_and_Shannon yeah there are 2 areas to Lao Cai. The side of the river where the train station is and the other side of the river which is also a Cai town (proper).
Although you crossed the border, but the buildings on Chinese side look kind of similar to that in Vietnam, the train station especially, the style and the unique yellow colour you normally find in Vietnam…the lanterns along the street remind me of Hoi An in central Vietnam I recently visited.😅 I would say this town is more like Vietnam than China, you won’t find it elsewhere in China.
@@Alan_and_Shannon For the poor people, a short trip green train is affordble. And tourists may take a green train for a slow travel to relax themselves.
@@Alan_and_Shannon This old green train is purposely kept for the poorer people, as you said, 5 £ for 6 hours of trip. In some poor areas of Yunnan & Sichuan, they even remove some seats in the carriages to accommodate agricultural products that the farmers take to sell in other cities.
China is a place of more than 25 countries combined together, only in this way you can fully understand China. You can treat Yunnan and Guangxi as two totally different countries. Each province in China is totally different from another especially in food and local culture.
@@Alan_and_Shannon Even in one province people usually don't fully understand or even totally don't understand what people say in other areas because of accent or native languages. 😶🌫
Wow. I was in Vietnam 21 years ago at that same spot and wondered what it would be like in Hekou. But we didn't have the visa to get into China. But now i know so thanks guys.
@@Alan_and_Shannon Vietnam looked a lot poorer back then but they still had the golf buggies. The triangular structure on the Chinese side was there back then.
You would feel very funny for you can find quite a lot of different ethnic minority groups of China in Kunming. Besides, I also suggest that you go to Dali.
I saw videos of civilians visiting each other’s border cities, between Russia and China, for quick breakfasts and things, like us and Canada. I heard there’s a swing at Myanmar and China border. Kids swing back and forth, between Myanmar and China. Nice. Also, I saw a video, border guards of Pakistan and China, dancing together using guns as props. How cool is that?
We already had a Chinese visa in our passport so that was all we had to show, it also depends what country you are from. You will find all the information online
the staff in the train station is like 'united kingdom? it that America?'😅 because in Chinese we calles Britain 英国yingguo(ying country) or 英格兰yinggelan(England) so the staffs in that small border town don't know what 'united kingdom' is.
Perhaps I get used to American accent it was super funny when I heard Alan said Sex hours in the train while he was trying to say 6 hours in the train. just joking, have a pleasant journey.
Seeing you carrying a United Kingdom passport makes me wonder "Is Scotland part of United Kingdom?" because your accent is so different from the British accent.
Just like China, Britain is also quite diverse. The "British accent" is very different between the various cities in the UK. Only a small minority of people speak the "RP - Queen's/London accent."
You guys are definitely categorized into 穷游 style in China. 🤣Maybe considering economic hotel chains or international hostels next time, they will not cost much more for a couple. There's even a Chinese saying "穷家富路", treat yourself well while traveling. 😁
Since you're going to China from Vietnam's border, go to Lijiang and Dali which is very near. You'll be in a very different China's city. Google for these 2 cities. After this, go to Tibet and Xinjiang. For Tibet, you might have to get a permit..
I guess you must not have slept on the train. Those cheap trains are so cheap that they sell all kinds of goods on the train, and the annoying shouts will fill the entire carriage.
