Vietnamese here. The donxing architecture, street layout, sellers basket display reminds me of typical Vietnamese style. goes to show how different cultures can easily influence each other

Love all your videos! Your handling of challenging experiences is consistently admirable. By addressing them, you're clearly not making a blanket statement about Vietnamese people. Such tourist scams are unfortunately prevalent worldwide, not due to inherent badness or greed, but rather stemming from issues like inequality, injustice, corruption, or flawed political systems. I firmly believe in the inherent goodness within all individuals, a quality that shines through beautifully in your videos. ❤️
Thank you so much! 🥰 Yes, I think so too, it's not the first border scam I have experienced throughout my travels. My goal is to show the beauty of people and nature ☺️ Much Love Yan
"Such tourist scams are unfortunately prevalent worldwide" -- what did you mean? Not many countries have such a practice to harass visitors at customs to pay bribery to be let in. Vietnamese have been targeting visitors from China for decades. Vietnamese customs used to do such bribery things even at airports against Chinese and Viet Kieu, but because airports are more international and so more cramping down. However, land border crossings with China are still big "attack zones" against Chinese, and quite a few Vietnamese feel that's kind of okay, as a means to get even with China and Chinese over geopolitical conflicts.
@@dantse2012able Maybe I should've phrased it to just "tourist scams are unfortunately prevalent". I simply meant that where there are tourists, there are opportunities to take advantage. And that taking that opportunity doesn't mean you are bad or evil. It usually means that your choices are limited.
We get this ‘tourist’ scam crossing from Thailand to Laos, the first time I crossed was with two very experienced people and when the uniform fat guy approached me my tall confident friend basically shoed him away. The last two times were on organised motorcycle tours. They handled everything, but there was an ‘agent’ buzzing around handling everything.
A very lovely trip crossing from Dongxing into Vietnam. The two cities seem like one country, yet local people can speak Chinese and Vietnamese. I like the sight and sounds of street food vendors as well as the local market. What an array of snacks! I'd love to try them too. You did an excellent job in explaining and describing the taste of each and every snack! The ugly side of CIQ is quite normal in border cities, but you handled the situation very well. What a brave lady you are. Thank you for sharing the adventure with us. Certainly a memorable one!
Looking at it from our point of view we find it strange, maybe China's entry checks are very strict for some countries, but there is no demand for money, of course, it is also illegal.
The CIQ corruptions in both sides were similar 10 or 20 years ago but under Xi leadership China clean up tremendously but unfortunately cannot said about Vietnam.

I'd love to see more in the future, I know you have your own itinerary planned out so of course no pressure to go NOW but in the distant future it'd be nice to see more of what Vietnam has to offer.❤
On Land border crossing between "developing countries", especially into a poorer country, the local officials quite often impose their own illegal charges. This is flat out corruption. This happens at the Thai - Malaysian land borders, Thai - Csmbodian.. Thai - Myanmar borders. 30+ years ago, they simply wont let you pass if you dont pay, but since then, you can insist that the charges are not acceptable and they will let you pass. I always refuse to pay. Actually, 40+ years ago, the officials at the Indonesian airport in Jakarta also insist on a small collection (S or RM$10). I have never paid😂😂

It’s so sad. This Vietnamese visa scam is well know even here in Canada. My father in law is Vietnamese and he went back to his country for a trip 6 years ago. The custom says his visa is not valid but he did through a legit representative office here in Canada and they warn him about the visa scam. My father in law had immigrated in 1972 to Canada and he is very tall 6 feet 1. For them he is a foreigners who speak English and has a westerner wife but he does understand Vietnamese! he heard the agent saying « let’s make him wait half an hour. He will pay » And then my father in law reply politely in Vietnamese « Lets have a talk in the police station ». The agents and his manager was stunned… and just say he can go. My father in law who was always so proud of his native country was quite discouraged and didn’t even explain to his wife untel they flew back.

Thank you sharing your experience at the crossing, and, giving great advice. There are always those who will take advantage of those who do not know what is legal. Like you said, it was a way to make extra money. So what you said will, I'm sure, be very helpful to anyone visiting Vietnam from China. The Vietnamese market looked to be very relaxed, and seeing them sleep in hammocks for the afternoon, reminds me of the mediterranean practice when it is too hot in the afternoon!! I, also, like to have an afternoon nap sometimes!! Interesting to see the extra detail of porcelain at the temple. There are many similarities, but, enough difference to create a uniqueness in the two cultures. Nice, also, to see the friendliness continues and there are those who will help with translation. An interesting look in to a Vietnamese city. Thank you Yan, and, great that you got some sunshine as well!! 🙂
Thank you for your videos, recently I'm going through hard time and your videos make so much relaxed and i forget about all the worries in the world. Keep going!
The green swaying “bed” is called hammock! Very common in warm countries such as Mexico! I saw version of them in Dali years ago by the lake. Nice to take naps in them. I am surprise to see the Vietnamese side MongCai is so modern, more prosperous looking than Dongxia, unless there is a modern side of Dongxia as well. Thanks for this border vlog..very enjoyable!

Hallow brave little Chinese. I greatly admire your enlightening vlogs. Give you all the credit for knowing the variety of languages spoken in beautiful great Chinese provinces & cultures. Admire your literacy & hard work. Good to see you on Vietnamese side. I give great tribute to Chinese founding father Mao, and the succeeding leaders to date. In 1960's , I had seen the documentary under Mao's leadership, the people constructing terraces on the mountains for farming with premative tools, and carrying stones for construction of terrace walls & earth for filling terraces by wheel carts and by the help of two baskets hanging on either side of worker, tide to a wooden stick on the shoulders. Modern China owes to that generation's hard work. Keep it up great & brave little Chinese. Keep smiling. An aged well wisher.

It is quiet impossible of me to visit 東興 city in my life. Thank you for bringing me there by your video. I enjoy watching its scenary and "feeling" some special food. I love Vienam food. I go to Vienamese restaurant in Taipei very often. This video triggers me to look up this city in Google map. Now, I know where it is. Thank you. I love you.
Thank you for another wonderful tour with your insights.
A great description of the different foods, thank you. This will be very helpful to me.
I would love to visit China and Vietnam someday. Thanks for sharing - Mercy Fischer from Denver, Colorado USA
My father in law who was always so proud of his native country was quite discouraged and didn’t even explain to his wife untel they flew back.
they wanted your father in law's money , that is communist !
I grew up in a border area, Niagara Falls, they are exciting places. South East Asia is very beautiful, and lots of history. Would love to visit. Thanks for the video, Happy New Year.
Thank you Little Chinese and 🙏 Greetings and Xin Chun Kuaile 🙏 from Yangon Myanmar (Mian Dian) interesting to know some border scams 👍 very knowledgeable ☝️ Thanks again

Watching this video at 3am in Hong Kong and I am craving for a big bowl of Vietnamese beef pho noodles... Piping hot. 😂
This trip is fascinating. Love it
You are so lucky to have this kind of experience between the 2 countries.
Thank you for these amazing vlogs from Guangxi. My wife is from Laibin in Guangxi and I have travelled there with her a number of times. I've crossed into Vietnam in Dongxing and it's great to see the bridge with all the traders on again. It was a lot busier on the day I crossed!
So fascinated with how u brave through not paying. It's cool to watch :). Scam happens in most borders, including extended borders. It is ok to walk out, bargain out, or pay out. It is not ideal, but it is a good entry test to identify the type of tourist u are getting. U did good - definitely among the 20%. Kong Hei Fa Choi!
Thank you so much! 🥰
Yes, it's also not the first time this happened to me.
All the best
Yan ♥️

As always and excellent video 👌👌I love travel and food vlogs. Your video is intelligently packaged to cover both. People like me from India will never be able to visit interior of China and you are opening up China for everyone to see and appreciate. Keep the good work. Your aerial shots are so impressive I usually see on big screen TV👏👏👏
What you ate is bánh đúc- steamed rice layers. Different North/South region made it a bit different but they both taste very yummy with fish sauce. The South Vietnamese one is probably the better since it has coconut in ịt. The Gac fruit is about 20usd per pound here in the US. It has the red color that marinates with sticky rice. Happy travel! I am from Arizona.
Thanks Yan, for sharing your brilliant trips, very interesting
Welcome to Việt Nam, love your vlog.❤
This was an amazing new vlog! I really enjoyed it since China 🇨🇳 and Vietnam 🇻🇳 are 2 countries I desperately want to visit!
I’m glad you are mentioning the scam at the border issue! 😏😟 This things happen all over the world they always hit when you are out of your comfort zone and they can pray on you not knowing the rules! So thank you 🙏🏼

It's done so casual yet so informative 👏😍👍
Nice to give in Vietnam how wonderful to meet you have a safe flight is a phrase used to wish someone a safe and smooth journey, have a nice trip to Vietnam , ❤🫰
I visited three cities in Viet Nam last year. I really enjoyed the sights and the sounds.
Thank You, Happy New Year of the Dragon. I enjoyed the tour of Vietnam. Take care till next time.👋
Thank you, it’s wonderful traveling with you.
loved this trip
Thank you for your videos, recently I'm going through hard time and your videos make so much relaxed and i forget about all the worries in the world. Keep going!
The green swaying “bed” is called hammock! Very common in warm countries such as Mexico! I saw version of them in Dali years ago by the lake. Nice to take naps in them. I am surprise to see the Vietnamese side MongCai is so modern, more prosperous looking than Dongxia, unless there is a modern side of Dongxia as well. Thanks for this border vlog..very enjoyable!
谢谢你😊
Great videos Yan, 我祝你 龙年大吉,身体健康。
