Thanks for sharing the video about this province, Hainan. I'm Cambodia, but my ancestors from my mother's side migrated from this province to Cambodia over 100 years ago.😊❤
I like that you take time to chat with the locals and brave enough to try the unique local food. So surprise to know that betel nut eating is prevalent there. Hope the red stain after eating it doesn’t stay. Do continue to have a safe journey, a wonderful time and a growing audience.
It was interesting to learn about the betel chewing habit there! Hopefully the next trip will be really safe and memorable, and more and more followers! 😊🌟
I will never forget my first trip to Hainan from Guangzhou by overnight train. I could not believe that the entire train was loaded on to a ferry boat with vehicles on one level and people on top Haikou. After crossing the straits, the train unloaded and continued to Sanya. A marvel feat of engineering! Haven't lived in Hawaii, Hainan is my favourite tropical paradise.
Yan, you are the perfect ambassador to share the diverse beauty and nature of your country. You're friendly and curious personality invites all you meet to respond in kind. I enjoy every one of your videos and am so glad that I came upon your RUclips channel. Thank you and happy travels. ❤
Thank you for showing Hainan Island. My father was born there, he and his family migrated to Malaysia when he was twelve. He speak excellent English with a British accent. I in my turn migrate to England then Australia. I had been to Hainan Island and I love Sanya a tropical paradise. Thank you very much.
11:16 This is very common in Kerala state in India. Search for " Murukkan". We use betel leaf, arecanut, shell lime (Calcium hydroxide) and tobacco leaf. The tobacco makes you feel drunk. You can chew it without tobacco also.
Excellent video. I lived in Whuzishan City 2002-3 and have many happy memories. I was laughing when you tried the binglang - a teacher from the university and I spent many pleasant evenings strolling around town exchanging Chinese and English conversation and chewing binglang. Much has changed and I struggled to recognise the small town of 10,000 people that I remember, but that still doesn't stop me thinking of returning for a visit one day...
This ferry crossing is very advanced comfortable effective. Hainan is very beautiful thanks for sharing. Stay healthy safe yourself. God bless your good works.😂
Thanks Yan for another lovely episode. I especially like the way you explained the facts about the consumption of betel nuts without being judgmental of the people who eat them. Don't worry about leaving your luggage at the gas station - I remember hearing about a man who accidently left his wife behind at one!
Back in 1965 when I visited my grandparents with my father, my grandma was eating betel nut using leaves just like what you shown on your video. I like the drone view, excellent vantage.
Thank you for trying & explaining betel nut. I've read about it for years & know some people become very addicted, but I had no idea how it tastes. I greatly appreciate traveling with you, Yan.
Milá Yan , srdečně Vás zdravím. Děkuji mnohokrát za další úžasné video , díky Vám sem si Čínu zamilovala , je to neskutečné co všechno zajímavého jste nám už ukázala, krasnou přírodu, milí lidé a ty různé tržiště, kde je vždy tolik krásné zeleniny a ovoce, váš milej komentář a příjemná hudba, jste opravdu nejlepší 👍👍👍 a taky odvážná, když dokážete všelico zajímavé ochutnat👍👍👍 Už se těším na další video, hodně zdravíčka a Boží ochrany, opatrujte se, mnoho pozdravu z Česka 🇨🇿❤️🍀🌹🙏🙋
Yan, a lovely surprise. My ancestral home is in Hainan Island. My paternal great-grandpa was involved in betel nuts trading along Vietnam-Malay peninsular-Hainan route following the trade winds in the 1920s. Thank you for sharing your travels.
I wish I were there to look after your baggage, I felt really bad, sorry, 40km riding back, I know how passionate about your work and how much hardworking you are! Wow, what a wonderful looking island Hainan is. Varied landscapes, but, nicely lush with lots of greenery. I love being on ferries, gives you time to chill and relax. Again, the wonderful hospitality is evident and seeing your face when you tried the betel nut and tamardin, very funny!! Great that you try new food. It's amazing that something that is carcinogenic for the throat is so popular, yet doesn't really taste nice with the first bite. Crazy!! You were fortunate that you were able to recover your luggage. It is easy done. Might be an idea to have a checklist to make sure you have everything. Hainan looks like somewhere that I would be happy to retire to!! Have a lovely weekend Yan and see you on your next instalment. Thank you!!
What an expression little Chinese had for sometime during and after chewing betel nut.👌It was a betel nut vlog. Background music from 12:10 was good. Don't ride if feel drunk.
China's cities and landscape are immense and so varied. Hainan must have incredible farms that produce fruit and grains, a sight unto itself. Can understand why people love visiting. Have traveled to China and desire another, longer visit--hope the politics calm down and more visitors can come to China. There is simply so much to see and experience. ❤😊
I was in Sanya, Hainan a few years ago for the lunar new year, and I must say my experience was very different from yours. We flew from Hong Kong to Sanya and stayed at a very nice resort (Mandarin Oriental). The resort was amazing, beautiful, modern, great food, etc. We did a couple of day tours with local guides, but felt we were just being steered to places where we could buy stuff. I think your experience and way of traveling is superior, as you get to experience how the locals live. Great video, when I go back to Hainan, I will go to the rural center of the island and try to experience something closer to what you are. Thanks as always for sharing, truly one of the best things online.
When I'm in China, I don't go on guided tours. If one understand Chinese, still relatively easy to get around. Going around on your own is more liberating, discovering things on your own, making some mistakes along the way, but more rewarding.
Yes, the downside of doing a tour is that you'll end up in places where you spend more money for products you can get elsewhere and you won't get to experience the culture and the people. I went on a cruise ship to Jamaica one time and I really disliked my experience because of it. You see a lot of poor and hungry kids selling fruit in the streets with no shoes and on the coast you see a lot of luxury hotels, clearly the locals are not seeing any of the benefits from tourism and it's disheartening.
I am glad you tried the betel nut so I don't have to. I have eaten betel leaf with beef wrapped in it when we eat Vietnamese food. But I have not tried the nut. Thank you for the video of Hainan. Nice place.

It's an amazing adventure to Hainan. There is a wide variety of tropical fruits and abundance sunshine, which makes Hainan a sure must stayover holidays! Never heard of filling in such a long lottery ticket but what passion for the locals. Your travel reminds us that we are forgetful people, when we are too excited to see and explore new places. Hi Yan….the bit about the betel nut chewing is really interesting. When I was a kid growing up in Asia, it was tthe Indian ladies who were the ones who eat them .They would then spit out a red liquid.. In the US it'd be long gone unless you happen to have a nice person take ownership to protect your bag until you get back. I can't tell you how many times I've had to do this, the last time it happened I saw a woman drop her phone when she was chasing her child and another man approached me and told me it was his. I told him no it was not and gave it to the woman who dropped it.
While watching I was thinking back in the Philippines chewing betel nuts were part of daily lives of our elders in our tribe until now. Then you mentioned it at 19:07. That makes me smile.😘

I'm so surprised that middle aged people in Hainan chew betel nut. To my knowledge, betel nut is popular in Myanmar. In Thailand it was popular in the past; now only some older persons chew betel nut. My grandmom also loves chewing betel nut; she is 93 years old.
Wow. It's so popular in Indonesia too😊My granparent planted it long time ago and now the tree is growing so high. But, yeah nowdays it's rare to see younger people to chew the betel nut.
Fresh betel nut is less harmful than dried one, because the harmful components are less condensed, and your oral mucosa is hurt less due to its softer fiber. That's why the man said it is better to eat it raw. But still, it is not good for your health.
It seems my favorite saying with you Yan, Beautiful Just! Not that drunk, I thought, altered state? There are a good number of Hainanese in Singapore. I am sure they will be keen to watch this vlog. Betel nut? Yes these were very popular with the older folks.
Hello there, greetings from Singapore. I am your fan since covid days. I love your videos and the beautiful sceneries by your drone. You really make a good story and hope someday I could visit the places you have recommended. 加油, 你很棒喔
I love all your videos but this one is my favorite! (for now!) Watching you try Betel nut was really entertaining! BTW, the white paste/powder is a chemical required to activate the drug in the betel nut.

Drone flying, mesmeric Yan, you do yourself very proud. You should be very happy with your interactions, always upbeat.............
A very interesting one, I like your interactions with the local people. Thanks, Doug Philadelphia USA
Hainan island is the Hawaii of China. It's a beautiful island surrounded by sea with beautiful beaches and scenic views. It's one of the paradise on earth. Amazingly beautiful island. ❤❤❤
Awesome Yan !! Thanks and good luck. Watch these in the early morning - very relaxing
Love this presentation! When leaving the gas station don't forget to take your motor bike with you.
There are a good number of Hainanese in Singapore. I am sure they will be keen to watch this vlog. Betel nut? Yes these were very popular with the older folks.
I'm new to your Channel but I find your vlog so interesting ,did'nt find before that your country is rich of beautiful places.
I get rhe impression China is one of the busiest places on Earth. Always something going on everywhere.
In singapore and malaysia , hainanese coffee and chicken rice is famous
Yes, that's because there are many older Hainanese in Malaysia and Singapore.
Your hard efforts are worth the wonderful videos you produce. Many, Many thanks. Superb!

I love all your videos but this one is my favorite! (for now!) Watching you try Betel nut was really entertaining! BTW, the white paste/powder is a chemical required to activate the drug in the betel nut.
