A band that plays for 40 years is bound to have some great songs; U2 have very many; you just have to give them a proper chance if you want and keep an open mind.
There comes a time when one has to stop denying U2. Took me a long time to realise that. So many excellent songs.

Yeah I think you're trolling. Why didn't you mention Onkel Kånkel instead while at it? Even though we all know, thanks to South Park, that Bono is a giant turd, his voice and songwriting skills are quite the opposite. I'm afraid same can't be said about Eddie Meduza. They still got it. This is a timeless band. Some may say They have gotten way too mainstream, whatever. You can't deny they are a multigeneration band, innovative and unique. And what can I say about Bono's writing and singing skills... He is the man!

Heartbreakingly beautiful, I have been listening to U2 since the 80's and this is up there with the best. His lyrics are haunting, he is a damn fine poet. There are so many out there who say they hate U2, but have they really listened?

If the album was only released to justify a tour then surely they could have released whatever they had 2 years ago? A band with this kind of legacy doesn't need an album to tour anyway.Look at the Rolling Stones.
***** First of all U2 are one of only a handle of groups and musicians who do not need to 'drum up' publicity for a new tour. They have the biggest tour in rock history with the 360 tour which grossed close to $1 billion dollars stealing that crown from The Rolling Stones with their Bigger Bang tour. That was quite a significant achievement because the Stones have basically relied on their old hits to sell out tours. U2 on the other hand have toured on the strength of their new album. Why? because they make consistently great music and compose damn good songs and that is why they have been the biggest band in the world for the last 30 years. To say that they need to saturate the media to sell out a new tour is complete nonsense. They have decided to play more intimate venues this time around to suit the personal nature of the album which is an album of songs. They have stripped away all the sonics and textures and composed an album of fine songs that will live long after your little hipster tirade. You are more than a cynic and I can't imagine you even like or enjoy music, in fact you don't know much about music in all fairness. I have a wide variety of tastes, I love the Beatles, Tom Waits, Stones, The Smith,s JDivison, Televison, Ramones, Sex Pistols,Sonic Youth, Smiths, MBV, Captain Beefheart, Mozart, Abba, Belle and Sebastian, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Nirvana etc etc and I can tell you this U2 sit comfortably and in most cases exceed those fine artists in terms of music and songs.
They're back. Exceeding expectations, as usual.

I love this song. I love this album and for 20 years I've loved this band and I'm proud to say it (it seems in vogue to be a U2 basher by lots of people for some odd reason!?!). My relationship with U2 has traveled along the same path as any long-term love relationship - through those same stages of love: eros, philos, agape; and I am happy to say they now deserve my 'agape'. Thanks for the album - waking up to that itunes gift was awesome and listening to the album I can understand why they wanted the whole world to enjoy it.

I come back to this often. It’s so powerful and so beautifully performed. When stripped back the power of the lyrics really come through. They are the masters of their craft.

For all the years this band is still amazing Bono's spine chilling voice brilliant
so I listened to this song on the Album and was more or less 'meh' about it. Then I watched him perform this track at the MTV thingy and went 'wait, which song is that, this is great'. Went back to the album and found it, to say I was underwhelmed by the studio version would be an understatement. And now I'm listening to this one again on RUclips and it's just mindblowing. Why why why not put this version on the album. No one wants this wishy washy studio altered pop rubbish. Gonna have to download this as an MP3 and replace the album track with it.
I recommend you listen again to the studio version...give it time...is version is great too btw
