Anybody that watches your video's knows that you can back a trailer in with the best of them! We head into the spots too sometimes. Cheaper to fix a trailer than to replace a hood! Stay safe!!
I like to pull in also if the right spot is available, I’ve had my hood, mirrors, bumper hit by swinging trailers and that is a giant time waster.
Only once too fast. Great words of wisdom, regardless of terrain
Great to see the colors starting to change! Nice ride through the mountains
Thanks for the view! Stay safe!
Safe trucking for you & Bailey. Hello Teresa.
Yep, been across i40 a bunch of times, spent a few days because of a truck accident and deep snow back in the early 90’s - I use to work for a company that a driver used his Jake brake in the yard, the owner was standing outside with the shop manager- and he asked him what that noise was. And he told him, and he told the shop manager to turn them All Off, he said he only wants drivers that can drive anywhere without one, then I’ll put them back in so they know I appreciate them. And I understand- drivers abuse them a lot - I’ve been down a lot of mountains without one- including Jacobs ladder, the Cabbage, Donners pass, Black mountain, are just a few. 4th of July pass, is another- I’ve run all the lower 48 states for that company- without a jake brake. Believe Me, you check those Brakes, All the Time, I carried my wrench in my back pocket. I knew a few drivers that had clips on there’s that clipped on there keys. And yes you can drive down a mountain a 1000 times to slow, but drive to fast once. It’s a Scary feeling to push on the peddle and it feels mushy. You have a death grip on the steering wheel and the seat - I’m a Rocking Chair rocker now. I feel sorry and say a prayer for the ones out there now. God Bless, y’all stay Safe.
🤠🐾♥️🙏🏻🇺🇸🌲🍀🦨
Anyone giving grief about driving in parking doesn't own their truck or hasn't watched how terrible some drivers are at backing. Big fan Dan, I've learned a lot from your videos.
I've been up and down the Pigeon River Gorge SO MANY times that it's like my driveway.. my SLALOM driveway.. 🤣🤣...
Thanks Dan
Thank you Dan. Safe Travels 🇺🇲
🚛 💨 💨 💨 💨
I was taught back in day to go down a steep grade in the gear you topped the grade.
Dan, I saw you in NC, we were going in the opposite direction, and I had no CB, but got a big smile when I saw you.
I was picking up my grandaughter up at Parris Island, 1 of our Nations newest Marines.
It was cool seeing you finally, Safe travels Sir.
Scared the by jeepers out of myself on that same grade one day.
I'm 77, dependng which way i roll, ...i can feel my own tanks draining one side to t'other.
...~Buen Camino~
Good too park safe, too many "accidents"on those parkings, nice video again Dan.
Tree leaves 🍁 are starting to turn!
My last time through the Gorge I was 14’ wide
Wish u could’ve swung by the Mayberry truck show this weekend in Mt Airy Nc!! Would love to seen your truck and met you Dan!!
Thanks. The gorge is a beautiful drive when the leaves change. Blessings
Brilliant video of the scenery of the American countryside
Thanks for all time and videos of a professional owner operator you stay safe
🌵🇬🇧👍
My old stomping grounds. Grew up just north of Asheville, NC. Live west of Knoxville TN now. Drove I40 Pigeon River and Old Fort Mountain near Black Mountain hundreds of times. There used to be a lot of wrecks on Old Fort Mountain in the 70s/80s. Loved seeing it through your windshield. Safe travels.
Wishing you a profitable and safe trip Dan!
think i mentioned about keeping a level so i know which way to lay my head, when i park for the night. don't like sleeping with my feet higher than my head, my head tends to get stuffy in the morn and i'd have to pop a pill to get rid of the stuffiness
I thought that sign said "Old Fart" 😂🤣😆
When you jump off I-40 to get on I-26 towards Asheville, North yyou have some steep grades heading to Columbia, South Carolina.
Wow what beautiful country!! Thanks for taking us along Safe travels for you and Bailey!!
I’ve gone down I5 N grapevine too fast (80mph) lost brakes once I don’t wNt to do that again
Good show . Be safe. 😊
Thanks for the ride Dan. Loved it!
I wondered about pulling in also because of backing out into the driveway of the truck stop, but protecting your hood makes perfect sense. I was an o/o many years ago and when it is yours, you think totally different than when you drive someone else’s. Brilliant Super Trucker Dan! I have been in the trucking industry for almost 50 years, only 15 as a driver, and I see you do very few stupid things or things without a reason.
Just waiting for the comments about you parking and sleeping on an angle. 😂
I run the gorge and Black Mountain often. Good stuff!
Have a safe trip and keep up the good work God bless from GA
Many thanks for the mountain ride along!!!!!!!! I have been in the Smokies twice. One of my most memorable.
Makes sense why drivers head into a parking space when possible, why risk hood damage if you can avoid it!
Gr8 Wisdom & Advice Mr Dan!!!!!!😎🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🇺🇸💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰
Almost looks like the Alps here in the old world.
Black MTN nothing like it used to be 30 years ago
E
Hickory’s my hometown! Had to bring the hauler to talladega for the race this weekend or I’d of bought you a cup of coffee
Great video. Thanks.
I dont blame u Dan for pulling into a spot. I do it to keep someone from banging into the truck. If ur going to hit anything, hit the trailer, save the truck.😂
Don't hit either one 🇺🇸🗽👌🚛
@@billupstateny9151 true 👍
I grew up in Hendersonville NC. I used to run the gorge twice a day. I had a regular run to Greenville TN. Good words of wisdom about the hills, stay safe.
I was born and raised in Hendersonville now live in Rutherford county.
Dan , your truck sounds great coming down that grade
Loved the scenery!! WOW!! Take care & get some rest.
That's a beautiful ride from Winchester down through the mountains, but that Gorge can get rough in a winter Snowstorm.
i went thru there once during the winter, roads were clear at the time, but i'd heard the snow can get deep and drift a lot during a wind blow.
Of all the RUclips channels I subscribe to, Super Dan, you are still my favorite after all these years! Thank you for what you do for America as a trucker & thank you for entertaining your viewers!
I know exactly where you loaded, close to my neck of the woods. Wish you would have shown some Kentucky driving. But the NC drive is nice, love driving that area.
Thanks for the video, Dan. The Gorge was a good test for your suspension rebuild. Safe travels!!!
Is it just me ? , I find it difficult at times to hear you over the noise of the engine. Otherwise great to watch as always, ( been tied to you for years,Regards from Scotland).
Unbelievable the calibur or lack of it and common sense that you get out on the road nowadays!! ls there that many keyboard super truckers ,our there, questioning you and the concept of keeping your truck/equipment safer by pulling into easy to back out of parking spots!!! I thought it would be a no brainer!!!On top of the fact that your isolating yourself from other drivers that let the engines run with auto fan engaging every 5-10 minutes all night and not having to deal with reefers that your not accustomed to!! Or other drivers having to sleep with windows /vents open and hear your generator running!!!!
Wonder if they are part of the entitled generation?? Are they the ones that run up and down the interstate with out a CB,or have one but are to lazy to turn it on and actually listen to current local events???
Are they to busy with bothe there ear peices in there ears with there feet on the dash with there flip flops on? Busy texting or watching tik tok as there driving down the road at 65 -75 mph!!!??? Thinking there out there makin it?? When in reality there just a menacing danger to themselves and more over the other drivers on the road!!!!!
Since when did not paying compete attention to your job become acceptable?? Not sure but i dont think ive ever heard of airplane pilots flying with there feet on the dash or watching and listening to tik tok or twitter while landing a plane or flying in inclemate weather!!!!????
If it has to do with Pooping, it’s a Serious Matter and it’s a Good Load to Haul across the Country. 😬👍
How's Katie doing?
I don't think her and Dan keep in touch since she left. I'm not sure who his coordinator is now I know it's another female though
Dan Dan the professional flat deck man. I would imagine most of your comments from viewers on you pulling in and not backing in is mostly from people who are not drivers of semi’s. Most have never been in the parking area for trucks and never get to see how unprofessional some of the semi drivers are. Every year there are more trucks on the road and more drivers just getting into trucking and don’t have a lot of experience yet. Yup I did that one time, drove down the hill to fast. It was a very scary experience and I never repeated that again. Driving 20 miles per hour slower for 5 minutes never hurt anyone, but driving faster has killed so many. Another great video Dan. Have a great and a safe day. Happy trails and happy motoring.
5 minutes to back up or $10,000.00 for a hood? 5 minutes of back up time sounds like the best choice when parking at a truck stop.
Hi Dan, safe travels to you and Bailey. I remember the rock slides on the i40 gorge when the road was shut down for months. No good way around that but we managed.
You are the ultimate professional! I’m not a truck driver but have a tremendous respect for what you drivers do every day. Keep up the great work!
Enjoyed this Video Dan. That is my old stomping grounds. I was born and raised in Asheville, NC. That mountain you called Black Mountain is actually called Old Fort Mountain. Safe travels!
I always pull in when I can. Quieter and like you say it protects your truck!👍
Outstanding! Been there many times, good advice, you did it in a professional manner.
apparently the side curtain driver must be exempt
i new y u do it
Nice job on using the Jake brake...I can see the leaves are starting to change...Fall is my favorite time of the year. 🍂🍁
Give Bailey an extra doggie treat. 🐕
You're the professional so pull straight into that parking spot and get some rest...stay safe out there. 😎👍
Dan, I was on my way to the Mayberry truck show, Friday up in Mt airy NC, passing through hickory and looked over and what did I see.....yep, a BIG orange Pete getting off I 40 west onto 321south.....I said, hey, there's super trucker Dan👏👏👏..... awesome getting to see your truck👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻....stay safe
those are called infiltraters
this is nothing compared to the downhill on I-5 north into Medford, Ore. then all those "little hills" after till you get to Springfield then it flattens out for a smoothe run to Portland and up into Seattle.
You forgot to tell us what gear out of the 18 you went down the hill in 🤔
Thanks Dan for sharing your videos and experiences with us. I really enjoyed the view coming down the mountain.
No trucks in the left lane. Lol. If you go too slow below that 50mph, I'm going past you, but i do respect that 35mph down Black Mountain whether I'm loaded or empty.
Your truck, you park.
question....when you downshift , do you have to match the rpm for that gear????????
When the Jake brakes are engaged, does the truck turn on the brake lights?
Another good one Dan KEEP ON TRUCKIN 🚛🇺🇲👏🐘
imagine how much harder parking would be if you had a 53' flatbed 🤔
I remember back in the 70's when I was too young to ask any prying questions, my dad drove a truck for Empire (local CAT dealer) that had a weird hydraulic brake that Caterpillar was using on their engines at the time.
His Peterbuilt/Cummins had a Jake brake, but the truck he drove with the Cat had a different setup for engine braking. Good to see that Caterpillar ended up just using the Jake brake instead of their own engine braking system.
Love riding shotgun watching the beautiful mountains.❤
Jake is your best friend.
Trucked down that mountain many times. Rugh without a jakebrake.
Enjoy watching your videos, safe travels Dan
Safe Travels. Love ❤️ ❤️ ❤❤❤❤❤❤ Miss Bailey. Give her a hug, smooches, & scratches behind both ears. She who must be obeyed..
Hey Super Trucker.....haven't watched any trucking stuff for a long time.
Too many lazy trucker gurus out there.
I always enjoyed your content.
Truck is still churning along I see......with a hard working driver behind the wheel.....no nonsense. 👍
I nose into a parking spot occasionally. Usually for the quiet but sometimes for the view.
does Bailey think you're crazy always talking to yourself like that??
GOOD MORNING FROM FL ITS SATURDAY ! DAN MAN BEAUTIFUL RIDE TO DAY WOW THE CHANGING OF THE COLORS ! BE BLESSED STAY SAFE ! 👊✊👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Missed opportunity to Jake Brake in the tunnels. Thx for the vid.
Visited Ashville in 2006 then did the trail along the mountains to Cherokee/Galintburg/Pirgien Fordge and back to I40. Base was 60mile south of Memphis at the time. Now of course it's Tupelo.
Road Ranger X 100A Springfield, Illinois. Star 66 Restaurant, very good food, good size lot by the train tracks, one of my favorite truckstops.
Humm I just drew the lines between for you. Think I'm pretty good.
My first time down black mountain was at night back in 1984. We didn't have Jake brakes in the trucks...it would've be better during the day.
Grew up in Asheville NC been in Charlotte last 50 years been up an down that mountain in Black Mountain 3 or 4 hundred times. Good job.
Damn right I’d pull in when I could! I can’t count how many times I’ve had mirrors torn off, body damage to the hood, and scraped up bumpers from guys pulling out in the middle of the night. Sadly, not every driver out there is a pro.
Did you ever sell your 03 truck just wondering because you said you were getting it ready to sell
Keep it working Pal,👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
The runaway ramps in WV on 68 go uphill with deep gravel.
I used to run from Wi to Black mountain dedicated. I miss running it. 25E is a nice byway to avoid all the big road traffic.
Now its Wi down to Houston every week:(
All Excellent points throughout this video. Your downhill methods a spot on. I'd much rather have my trailer hit them my hood. Thanks for information. You're "Dan the Man".
I’m watching this while parked at a Flying J in Ontario. I drove in the spot. You won’t get any grief from me.
I had noticed that you could back straight into the driveway. Hoods can be replaced but the problem is down time. To many careless drivers.
Thanks for the videos Dan, it’s a beautiful country we live in!
Dan i been a viewer for many years and you wasn't but about 45 minutes from where I live when you went down old fort is what us locals call it. A driving test I took in jan 2019 for a job required that I go down and back up old fort a long with some city driving.
