I couldn't agree with you more Dan regarding truck stops. I was running a flat bed about a year ago, did it for a few months, trying to find a clean servicable truck stop to refresh yourself anymore is becoming a job in itself. People just have no appreciation or pride in their work, If an employer would praise their employees with a pat on the back, a hand shake and a big thank you daily, thinkgs would be alot different, I chock it up to Corporations and bean counters are only concerned with their own gain, just my two cents, what do I know?!?...lol😏👍

Living on the east coast we had a small chain of trucks tops called WilcoHess. They were small truck stops with souniver shops called Stuckey's. Stuckey's sold candy, salt water taffey, pecan log rolls, etc. Each WilcoHess had a small parking lot which was never full and a fast food restaurant located on site. I could always find parking late at night. When Pilot Flying J bought WilcoHess the truck stops immediately began filling up early every night. Too bad.

Love Mom and Pop truck stops. You will find some good food at many of them in the right area. Yea, many truck stop maintenance programs are not doing their job. Everything is busted or don't work right. Kiosk, DEF handles will not work right, no squeegee or broke, no window cleaner in buckets. Pitiful.

Soon after it opened I moved back to the suburbs couldn’t take country living and when I left the loves had pretty much put the two locally owned stations out of business. Last week I drove through that town for work and one of the local stations is closed and the other looks like it isn’t far behind. But be Ouse it was lunch time I had to stop at the loves and get some McDonald’s and I was shocked to see what a 8 years old loves looks like. The place was so dirty and run down I decided Chips and a coke was a safer bet than anything prepared anywhere near there

Good video dan. The truck stop guide is a great tool. Always has been. But....I used to be able to read it easier. Is the print smaller or are my eyes getting worse? Nah, can't be that. I think the elog regs helped kill the small truck stops. If every little stop didn't eat up my time, I'd definitely stop for a real sit down meal at cafes, restaurants instead of the chains more often. It's a big reason there isn't the camaraderie anymore. No time to sit, chat and make a friend. Go go go

I'm a new driver doing OTR in the eastern 37 and a lot of the Pilots are in just as bad a shape as a lot of the little gas 'n' sips out there. Really goes to show how difficult it is to maintain these facilities. What's even more sad is the prevailing feeling among the staff at a lot of these mom-and-pop shops that their days are numbered. I try to stop at them often and I always spend money when I do. They're invaluable.
