I like this version, as Roy intended it. Looking forward to the Estate issuing the full Roy cut of the album. Although the vocal on this is good, Roy sounds quite strained on a number of the other tracks, and I wonder if the dubbing and added backing vocals were to try to cover the unusual fragility in Roy’s voice. The other songs may reveal a quite exposed Roy vocal. I’d still love to hear it, but I’ve often wondered about the reason for the excessive overdubbing.
@Dilcia M Gilman I suggest you reread my comment. I referenced other tracks. Listen to the big notes on All I Need Is Time, Circle. Listen to Crying Time and Heartache - they reveal a very strained vocal.
Thanks for this little unheard gem from one of my favourite eras of Roy's recordings. So looking forward to the reissues & remastered recordings from Roys Boys for this period. I wonder if they will include tracks like this as extras.
From what I understand Dave when this particular album is reissued it will be presented the way Roy had intended it to be without the overdubs. So although the songs are known it will present a brand new listening experience. It's certainly a release I'm looking forward too.
Wow, thank you for that information. I do hope that its due for release in the next year or so, but I'm sure I read somewhere that they were going to issue all the MGM material first- including all the unreleased recordings that haven't come out yet - before moving on to the next period in Roy's career, so it might be a while yet.
I've been a collector for many years and this is just one of the gems I've been lucky enough to come across. I've spent the last five years learning audio restoration so that I would have the ability to clean up the lesser quality recordings I have, particularly live recordings. This song had a fair amount of hiss and crackle that I was able to remove and I hope everyone will be pleased with the outcome. If you ever have anything you'd like to have checked to see if the sound can be improved feel free to call on me.
I do have other songs from that album but in order to obtain the songs I had to agree to not post them online therefore I will not be uploading those. There is a code of conduct one must abide by among collectors and if you loose that trust then you loose credibility. There are very few creditable resources left because greed has gotten the best of most people. I've already received several nasty messages from people who's names are notorious with selling material to other fans who are very unhappy with some of the material I've uploaded. I'm very happy to know that I'm a thorn in their side because I've always been and will always be for the fans.
This is perhaps the most asked question by fans and this is what I can tell you about it. At no time has there ever been a copyright claim issued for a recording of that song by Roy. Even if the song had been recorded and is now lost there would have been a copyright filed on the recording at the time of production because without a copyright you have no proof of ownership. If Roy wrote it, co-wrote it or recorded it then there was a copyright filed on it otherwise it would be in the public domain and anyone could lay claim to it. There is no factual information that supports that the song was recorded and stolen by a fan as has been rumored. There are even those who claim to have even heard it. Now I can't really comment on what they heard or what they thought they heard or even if they heard anything at all because it all appears to be pure rumor. Even if someone does have such a recording then it's useless. It has no value what so ever because they have no legal documentation to prove the voice on said recording is actually that of Roy Orbison. In the eyes of the law it could be a recording made by Joe Blow who lives down the street.
Danke lieber Roy du warst so klasse werden wir nie mehr haben sowas danke schön
Thumbs up - nice clean sound.
Great song great singer
A brilliant version. Certainly better as Roy originally intended it.
Love the live version on Roy sings Orbison.
Fantastic Version!
