Skoda Enyaq vRS Coupe Review: The greatest Skoda?!

  • Meet the new Skoda Enyaq vRS Coupe!
    It’s the sportier, more stylish brother to the regular Enyaq SUV, and Mat’s about to find out if it has what it takes to live alongside the rather impressive regular Enyaq!
    One of the key differences is the exterior design. Around the back, you’re treated to a sporty sloping roofline, along with a sporty bumper and reflective light strip that comes exclusively with this vRS mode. There’s also some vRS badging spread about the car, while up front there’s a dazzling crystal grille that even lights up!
    Take a step inside the styling largely mirrors that of the regular SUV. However, that’s not exactly a bad thing! Sure the digital dials could be a bit larger, and we’d prefer to have a few more physical buttons, but generally, it’s a pretty spacious, well-laid-out SUV.
    In terms of performance, all Enyaq Coupes come with a 77kWh battery pack, with the range-topping being able to deliver a claimed range of 339 miles. There are three motor options to choose from, with this vRS coming with dual motors for an output of 299hp.
    But should you really spend £55,000 on this vRS Coupe? Or are there better, sportier EVs out there for a similar price that you should consider instead? Stick with Mat and see for yourself!

Also, in the real world, the Enyaq is consistently faster from 0-100 than my Model 3.
      If you want an exciting car for yourself and don't need a lot of room, of course the Model 3 is the winner. But if you have a Family and especially if this is your only car, the Enyaq clearly is the better choice.

    I've seen a few videos where Matt is mentioning a lack of 1 pedal driving in VW group electric cars - here he says he doesn't know why. The answer I was given by an Audi engineer is that VW cars coast - by design. Their research shows constant speed up then slow down via regen actually gives a lower level of efficiency vs cars that roll more. Reason being is you can carry more momentum without using power via rolling, whereas if you're constantly speeding up, then using the regen to slow down, you're slowing down too much and have to step on the "gas" pedal more often to get back up to speed. Given the extra weight of electric vehicles, this makes even more sense as they'll coast easier due to their larger mass. So it's a choice and you'll likely continue to see it.

    • @mwkau
      @mwkau Год назад

      I'm driving a Q4 50 which, apart from the looks, is pretty much the same car. What Matt also fails to mention (I think, at least), is that the car automatically regenerates in many situations once you take your foot off the "gas" (e.g. if you're approaching an intersection or are too close to the car in front of you) and otherwise coasts to preserve momentum. Also, if you hit the break pedal, it'll use regen breaking as well so. From personal experience (comparing break and the regular drive mode), this actually is more efficient and I find it more comfortable to just lift my foot off the "gas" whenever I don't need to accelerate and let the car do the right thing. A friend of mine has a Model 3 and I asked him how he is coasting. He said that you'll learn to push the "gas" just the right amount to not slow down and to not accelerate.

      It doesn't make any sense to put disc brakes on the rear axle of an electric car. Most of the braking is done through recuperation, those rear brakes hardly get any use. And if you don't use them, they will be faulty within some years. Brake disks start to rust, brake pistons seize, the W169 A Class is a perfect example for this. Drum brakes don't have these issues and are a much better fit for these cars.

The full one pedal braking isn't on skoda to make sure that stopping puts your foot on the brake and you van initiate auto hold. I love how it works.

    None of which matters, because Skoda dealers can't actually tell you how long the waiting list is on this car... because they don't know.
    Had one on order for coming up to a year now. They still can't tell me anything. No dealers have one in stock so you can't crawl around inside one yet, much less test-drive it.
    I'm sure it's a great car, but with orders being cancelled in their droves and with potentially a 2-year waiting list, Skoda have really f'd up here.

      What would be a better metric was a measure of max range assuming 70/75 mph on the motorway.
      That way people know the minimum the should expect to get and any other driving conditions will be more.
