This is the Bentley Bacalar!
Now don’t expect to see one of these on the road anytime soon. You see, Bentley is only producing 12 of these ultra-rare convertibles, and each one is set to cost £2,000,000!! But is it worth the eye-watering cost?
Well, let's start with a look at the design. Even though the Bacalar is based on the Continental GT, it’s got a whole load of new body panels made from either aluminium or carbon fibre! There are a whole load of big vents up front and in the bonnet (don’t worry, they’re all real) and overall it all looks pretty imposing! In fact, the only items carried across from the regular Continental GT are the side mirrors and vents!
On the inside, similarities to the regular Continental GT continue, but Bentley has effectively re-trimmed it. As a result, the interior is covered in aluminium, leather and even wool! There are also a few bespoke changes such as a new clock, and new gear shift panels. There are also bespoke Bacalar dials when you turn on the car.
Under the bonnet, you’ll find (you guessed it…) the same engine as in the Continental GT Speed - a 6-litre twin-turbo W12 that’s good for 659hp and 900Nm of torque. Either way, no complaints there - what an engine it is!
So what do you think - even though it looks this good, is it really worth £2,000,000?! You’ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself!

Bentley, like Lamborghini, is building a new bodykit (gives it a new model name), says we will only build 10 of them, adds a price premium x10, some Arab sheikh is buying it. 5 years later this Arab sheikh is going to sell it for 5 million. Just life.
About the door opening handle mechanism: Try opening the door with your right hand. People should do that anyway, as it involves turning a bit, thus enhancing your view of what's happening behind while opening the door. Could prevent a few accidents involving cyclists.
Good advise but my concern is its handle that's already looking old.

Best car review ever. Matt adds so much to it. Other luxury car youtubers-presenters would only talk about the stats and bla bla bla(boring). Matt however uses a wooden stick to check the exhaust, asks passer-by how much do they think the car costs and has the balls asking to trade a car with a 2 million house. Door handle leather getting damaged in such short period of time for such a price is a bit unacceptable
Any quality issues like that won’t be the same when the car is released, they’ve focused on making the car actually work and prob rushed the interior as it’s a prototype lol.

I just loved the whole approach to getting people's reaction. I consider myself lucky to be a part of the team who designed this car ( I had no participation in it though ). What a crazy crazy car.

The door handles are designed for “the other hand”. So as driver (in the lefthand-steering version) you have to open the door with your right hand. The reason Bentley designed the handles like this is, that you automatically look over your shoulder in your blind/dead spot while open the door. This prevents accidents.
I was thinking that it prevents people (especially the passenger) who like to grab on to things from accidentally opening the door. Like someone who is a bit older or something who needs to grab on to something to move especially if sitting in a reclined seat or if the driver likes to accelerate hard and the passenger grabs the handle.

This is a serious issue on roads, doors opening in your path without people looking, Should be a standard feature. Mind you if a Range Rover hit the door, the door is probably worth more then the Range Rover.
Never understood this, just look in the mirror while you open the door, it does the same thing.
The trunk opening is so absurd that it’s hard to believe anyone Ok’d it.

I think the idea is that anyone who can afford £2m for a toy car is the sort of person who has other people to deal with grubby little details like luggage.

Like if I wanted to pick up a friend from the airport and surprise them with the 1 of 12 car their hand luggage will have to go behind their seat. And they better only have hand luggage. I love the looks of that car, especially in that color, I think 2 million dollars is an awfully high price tag for a Bentley,I could have seen 750k or 1 million. It is faster than I thought it would be which is great and a good selling point. The exclusivity is definitely going to demand more money than I would have expected but in the end I don't think it's going to appreciate at least not over the next 40 years

Thank you for the down to earth review of this stunning Bentley Bacalar. Even if I had the £2M (or the £80,000 public estimate!) asking price, I would be too scared to take it out on the road, for fear of accidentally damaging the gorgeous bodywork or kerbing those expensive looking wheels.
As you correctly stated, most of the 12 cars being manufactured by Bentley will be garage queens, only coming out during good weather (why no convertible roof?) in the summer, if at all.

Its a nice looking motor for a 1-12, but my only gripe is that front bumper… its just so busy with grills. The central grill is nearly enough.

I like having a roof over my head so I'd go for a used GT Coupe or the drop-top for a tenth the price. Good job Matt for a great review, unfortunately you showed me why this will not be in my garage. Also having a car that I could not afford to register or insure might be another reason.

Matt, you've got to get a posher stick for posher cars, maybe get a posh carbon fiber stick for cars more than 300,000 pounds. 300,000-100,000 pound cars deserve a polished cherry wood stick, 65,000-100,000 stainless steel stick and lastly 65,000-30,000 plastic stick and anything less any twig you can find.
