Hands down the most brutally honest review of a new product model in front of the product manager that I've ever seen. With the last gen C63, Merc was clearly looking to go head-to-head with the M3. Perhaps they discovered M3 buyers weren't seriously cross-shopping the C63, and the car was too 'track focused' for the legacy C-Class buyers. So they switched back to the tried-and-true formula of "Our car makes more power". As noted by many others, most buyers won't even realize they're hauling around 300+ extra kilos.
Matt's an absolute legend for pointing out EVERY SINGLE THING car guys nowadays don't like. Such as the fake tips and those fake vents. Love it. Literally love it. Much respect

Well done Mat for being honest and frank with the AMG product manager, it's always nice to see a car journalist sticking to their views and NOT kissing the arse of a brand. Also credit to the AMG guy, he dealt with the push back well and wasn't afraid to have a laugh with Mat and also keep to the typical marketing speak which he'd have to do. Good video, it would be nice to see more with Mat and the car designers in future.
I agree, I was highly curious if this video was going to demonstrate Mat with the ‘stick of truth’ showing how exaggerated the exhausts are on the new C63s given how Mercedes have had the them blocked off for show in their previous models. Glad he called them out on this one.
i think the german guy handled it well - he's probably a bit of an introvert by nature, whereas Matt is very extrovert - at least Matt held back on all his usual cringe sexual references.
Everyone talking about how much they respect Matt for being straight forward with the seller/product manager. I loved Matt's honesty and his direct remarks, but I also think that the Mercedes guy should get way more credit/more love and less hatred as he's been extremely professional. He's done an incredible job at representing the brand and his involvment in the video was a great addition. IMO.
Respect to Matt for putting it on the lad. So many reviewers are too afraid of critiquing things too heavily for fear of falling out of favour with manufacturers.

100% agree - it was all about having a loud and shouty engine, and smoking rear tyres. Europe's muscle car. 4 exhausts - 1 for each pair of cylinders in a V8.

Wouldn’t want a matte with glossy color it’s just really wrong at least if the second color is matte then it will be normal or to be a dry or glossy carbon finish since you can’t go wrong with carbon

What hyper car made 760 …… none 😂 HyperCars were always 900+ and much much much faster. There are 4cylinder and 6 cylinder cars making more power than any amg v8 has ever made. No such thing as too powerful for its motor size.
I love light driver experienced focus cars, but this is a C63. They have always been about excessive power and comfort. Shame about the tiny engine though :(
Exactly! The cars are evolving TOO MUCH in power and size/weight. This is not right. A 2022 C Class is way more powerful than a E or S class from 15 years ago. Same with 3 Series comparing to 5 Series. What will happen with the cars in 2035? Bet they will discontinue a lot of models, it will rest a few ones.
One thing everyone is forgetting to mention is the cost of maintenance for this car. With all the new technology and the hybrid system, it will cost a fortune to fix issues given that performance mechanics aren’t used to them. Curious how reliable they’ve made this car.
That's exactly my thought, there will be loads of buyers, but they will never use it's potential. Another missed opportunity for AMG was to ditch the batteries all together and use lighter supercapacitors, which would reduce the weight by a 100kgs at least.
It wont be reliable, most of this is bespoke first gen tech. Its a disposable product meant for modern day rich people who have no appreciation of longevity.

Design wise this is the Best Looking C Class ever build for me. Down side is that the Rear Arches aren't Wider then standard. It's a must for me actually. And I would go for the Saloon in Silver definitely really Beautiful. 👌🏼 😍

Shows that most potential buyers don't care about anything else than how fast it goes in a straight line. Good for Mercedes so they can sell more cars but I can't shake the feeling that it's the first "C63" built without the enthusiasts in mind.
I don't believe that, the V8 was a huge selling point for the C63. In the UK market at least the previous one sold like hot buns despite being hardly any faster and costing a lot more money than an M3. AMG buyers were willing to pay the premium for the engine. The typical AMG buyer is very different from the buyers of A45s which are the same guys who were buying Audi RS3s before and probably owned something like an Astra VXR before that. They are not the same people who buy the full fat AMGs and they will not be buying this (if nothing else because they simply can't afford it).
so called enthusiasts are just Civic owners or keyboard warriors, not cash loaded to afford these type of cars...this is the reality and Merc know this backed up by numbers

Not really a C63 is it? It’s a powerful 4 cylinder, there’s no “63” about it. Insane to drop right down to a 4 cylinder when they could’ve took the V6 route. I’m sure it’ll be very nice & very fast but it absolutely is not a C63 AMG.

Over 10 years ago I left the M Car brand and went with a W204 C63. The power of the engine and most importantly the noise that car made instantly sold me. So for basically will be a $100K C-Class when optioned nicely, you get a tuned C43 motor. An electric engine in the rear (have fun owning that when you are out of warranty) and a slightly wider front track. Good job by Matt on flaming the product manager, as MB really destroyed the allure their customers had to this car. Anyone else notice no clip of the exhaust sound? I wonder why...
@@fzr1000981 174K+ Miles with the old style head bolts and no issues. I have a tune, CF air box and X-pipe deleting the 2nd cats. All mods were done when had less then 5K miles on the car. I had the expected stuff go wrong ABS control module, worn pullies, brakes, tires. The only thing I recently did preventive was replace the fuel injectors to and old one sticking open and hydro-locking a cylinder. Obviously oil changes with Mobil 1 5W-40 combined with Ceratec, trans and diff service.

Hands down the most brutally honest review of a new product model in front of the product manager that I've ever seen. With the last gen C63, Merc was clearly looking to go head-to-head with the M3. Perhaps they discovered M3 buyers weren't seriously cross-shopping the C63, and the car was too 'track focused' for the legacy C-Class buyers. So they switched back to the tried-and-true formula of "Our car makes more power". As noted by many others, most buyers won't even realize they're hauling around 300+ extra kilos.
Rip v8. You will be missed. Mercedes and v8 was such a brutal combo and now it will be history

Also credit to the AMG guy, he dealt with the push back well and wasn't afraid to have a laugh with Mat and also keep to the typical marketing speak which he'd have to do. Good video, it would be nice to see more with Mat and the car designers in future.
I agree, I was highly curious if this video was going to demonstrate Mat with the ‘stick of truth’ showing how exaggerated the exhausts are on the new C63s given how Mercedes have had the them blocked off for show in their previous models. Glad he called them out on this one.

I loved Matt's honesty and his direct remarks, but I also think that the Mercedes guy should get way more credit/more love and less hatred as he's been extremely professional. I love light driver experienced focus cars, but this is a C63. They have always been about excessive power and comfort. Shame about the tiny engine though :(

One thing everyone is forgetting to mention is the cost of maintenance for this car. With all the new technology and the hybrid system, it will cost a fortune to fix issues given that performance mechanics aren’t used to them. Curious how reliable they’ve made this car.

That's exactly my thought, there will be loads of buyers, but they will never use it's potential. Another missed opportunity for AMG was to ditch the batteries all together and use lighter supercapacitors, which would reduce the weight by a 100kgs at least.
It wont be reliable, most of this is bespoke first gen tech. Its a disposable product meant for modern day rich people who have no appreciation of longevity.

Shows that most potential buyers don't care about anything else than how fast it goes in a straight line. Good for Mercedes so they can sell more cars but I can't shake the feeling that it's the first "C63" built without the enthusiasts in mind.

I don't believe that, the V8 was a huge selling point for the C63. In the UK market at least the previous one sold like hot buns despite being hardly any faster and costing a lot more money than an M3. AMG buyers were willing to pay the premium for the engine.
The typical AMG buyer is very different from the buyers of A45s which are the same guys who were buying Audi RS3s before and probably owned something like an Astra VXR before that. They are not the same people who buy the full fat AMGs and they will not be buying this (if nothing else because they simply can't afford it).

Insane to drop right down to a 4 cylinder when they could’ve took the V6 route.

Idk…It is impressive how AMG does manage to make a lot of power off of a 4 cylinder turbo. I just can’t get over the fact this car weighs just as much, as a Dodge Charger 😕
This has 670hp and 752 torque so the whighs is not a problem.

Over 10 years ago I left the M Car brand and went with a W204 C63. The power of the engine and most importantly the noise that car made instantly sold me. So for basically will be a $100K C-Class when optioned nicely, you get a tuned C43 motor. An electric engine in the rear (have fun owning that when you are out of warranty) and a slightly wider front track. Good job by Matt on flaming the product manager, as MB really destroyed the allure their customers had to this car. Anyone else notice no clip of the exhaust sound? I wonder why...

@@fzr1000981 174K+ Miles with the old style head bolts and no issues. I have a tune, CF air box and X-pipe deleting the 2nd cats. All mods were done when had less then 5K miles on the car. I had the expected stuff go wrong ABS control module, worn pullies, brakes, tires. The only thing I recently did preventive was replace the fuel injectors to and old one sticking open and hydro-locking a cylinder. Obviously oil changes with Mobil 1 5W-40 combined with Ceratec, trans and diff service.
@@mikegaronee171 I've seen stuck injectors reported by one of the guys on youtube who loves those cars. I'm looking at the 2023 M2
