- Today I'll be testing a 13-year-old beast, the HD 4870. This card, originally released in 2008, used to be a high-end card with its core clock of 800MHz and 512MB of GDDR5 VRAM, but how usable is it today in 2021? Well, today I'll find that out!

i love that you use chapters in your videos it makes it so easy to skip to benchmarks 👍👍
Yeah chapter's are such a good feature from RUclips!
it's nice to see some OC tests, because these cards are so old and cheap that you can have fun OCing them without worrying of damaging anything.
Absolutely! Overclocking this card was fun to do, and seeing how it impacted fps is tempting me to try to overclock every gpu that I'm going to test from now on so I can get the maximum performance out of a gpu.
I just bought a pair for my retro XP gaming rig, it’s amazing for that
I have the same card and want to install it.
You removed the thermal paste. i miss seeing u put on fresh paste in this video.
So did u?
Yea I did apply new thermal paste. I just forgot to film it
2:32 cooler start sounded like a car engine sound
Yeah lol my pc is also very loud at startup so that doesn't help
I wonder why 2d was so far? When I get my crossfire card I’ll bench and see how it goes with win7
The driver does not install for me on my q6600 system with 8gb ram. I have tried many different drivers but they all fail install
I used the windows 8 drivers from this site: www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/amd-radeon-hd/ati-radeon-hd-4000-series/ati-radeon-hd-4870 Do those drivers not work for you?
@@TygoDoesStuff I gave up and bought another PC. The drivers always fail installation when I try them. My q6600 hd4870 system will just go in trash now I guess :( it's like 15 years old now anyway
Well, I have one XFX version with 1GB GDDR5 and with 50MHz less on clocks, because the cooling is worse. But I found when you underclock it and undervolt it, you will obtain a better .1% experience and less heats emitted by the card. I can play WarThunder, flawlessly! Try it! Also Fallout New Vegas
If I get my hands on another 4870 I'll try undervolting and underclocking it to see if that helps. Thanks!!
the best !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have this card but its have hdmi port,dp port, dvi port, vga port but how 🤔🤔
Your card is probably made by a different manufacturer. Those kind of things differ from card to card
@@TygoDoesStuff ooo ya man thanks.
Just asking, are you dutch? You sound like you have an accent😁
Yeah I'm dutch! :D
Ótima GPU pra retro games, com CRTemudriver ligada em uma TV CRT!
I have no idea what this even is, what is the nvidia counterpart?
The Nvidia counterpart to this card (at leat according to the internet) is the GeForce GTX 260
@@TygoDoesStuff well its newer as i thought
i have the 2gb oc version
oohh niicee!!
That screen tearing tho 😭
Yeahhh that's my capture card (some very cheap $20 one) I'm still saving up for a proper elgato one but in my opinion this screen tearing is a bit better than actually recording my screen with my phone
Hello ai em from Holland 😂
Hahahah
have you tried valorant?
You can't play Valorant because this card doesn't support Directx11.
No I haven't, if I ever make a new review about this card I'll make sure to test valorant
Unfortunately all of these guys testing old cards throw them into pretty f'n good computers. This dude has like, 8 gigs of RAM on deck and an i7. Those are picking up all of the pieces and not showing if this card is going to lag or not.
This doesn't tell us much of anything, like most of these "card guys" channels.
Th audience is interested in results on dual core, second hand PC's. Why don't these channels get this???
Dual core locked, un-overclocked CPU with 1 to 2 GB of RAM for a genuine reflection of performance. Anyone hearing me? Not likely.
EDIT: *12 AND 128 GB OF RAM, GET OUT, THIS IS NOT EVERYDAY GUY SPECS!!!*
Thanks for watching guisssse
I get that using older hardware might be more realistic but using high end hardware like what I'm doing makes sure that this card can unleash the most performance that it can. The fps that the card hits is not influenced at all by the cpu or ram and that makes for the most accurate results
