- In today's video, I'll be testing a 16-year-old GPU, the Nvidia GeForce 6200 LE. This GPU, released in April of 2005, is one of the lowest end Nvidia GPUs that can be fitted into a modern pc. With only 64MB of DDR VRAM, can this GPU even run games?

Since it’s WDDM 1.0, does that mean Vista/7 display drivers will run 8.1 and 10 just fine? I had a 2007 computer way back when and it ran windows 10 almost as fast as a new computer and the animations were smooth just like a new pc. It was Intel chipset 945 something like that.
I don't remember which drivers I installed for this gpu but I think that I installed the windows 7 drivers and the performance in windows was pretty good using this gpu!
I completed half life 2 on this card, i remember it being playable.
Next time I'll retest this card I'll make sure to play half life 2!!.pretty curious to see if it can run that game
I played HL2, Halo 2 (with a Win XP patch), Fable 1, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Call of Duty 2, 4 and 5 with the 6200 256mb AGP . The problem with this GPU is that the 64, 128 and 512 mb variants were pretty trashy iirc, the 256mb was the only one with an okay bus.
Hi, please test old school games from around the time the card was released i want to see how it compares to my old pc Geforce 6100 nForce 405, like for example doom 3 or something older like quake 3 demofour benchmark?
I still have this card so I'll make a updated review of this card in the future and I'll make sure to try those games as well!
Bought a pre-build back in 2005 and it came with this gpu, eventually getting into a bit more gaming i remember the thing could barely ran battlefield 2 on low. Upgraded to a 8800GT later on and what a fkn card that was
I'm still looking for a 8800gt, high end cards from that erra look so cool in my opinion!
Also the driver crashes on these older GPUs were common if they ran Vista or newer.
I have the same card as a normal 6200 with 128 MB. You can't expect much, but if you only play old games with it, you should be happy with it. And it still works with Windows 98.
Does it support hardware decoding in youtube with h264ify ?
Oh god no. I don't even think they even had those kind of decoding codec's back in 2004 / 2005 when the 6 series launched.
Yeah like Valezen said, I don't think this card supports decoding with h264ify
I have a retail boxed XFX 6200 LE, but my specs are a bit different to yours:
- GPU clock: 300MHz
- Memory: 128MB DDR2
- Memory clock: 266MHz
- Bus width: 64-bit
- Pixel shaders: 4 (2 Pixel / 2 Vertex)
- TMUs: 4
- ROPs: 4
- AGP 8X only
I also have a retail boxed XFX 6200 (non-LE) 256MB DDR2 AGP4X/8X, which I'm yet to test.
It seems even the LE models alone, vary wildly.
Yeah these cards vary wildly, I'm not even sure that the specs I mentioned in the beginning are correct but most of them are taken directly from msi afterburner and other tools so that shouldnt be an issue. For some specs I had to search the internet and I could never find a card with exactly my specs. Its probably just because it's so old but it was still a pain to get all of the specs from the internet.
It sounds like a very high-end card!
Absolutely! It's able to run minesweeper at 60fps!!
What OS did you use?
He Uses Windows 10
i stil have this , i dont know what to do with it
The ony real use I can think of is putting it in a retro build as a very simple video card but then again, mine has been put away in my closet ever since this review as I also don't know what to do with it lol
I cant belive that i am 0.75% of the community
Wait? A Nvidia GeForce 6200 LE?
bro this is a windows xp era GPU
so on that OS it will perform better provided u play xp era games at lowest settings
Yeah, windows xp erra games are more suitable for this gpu, I just wanted to see how this gpu performed in modern games
This was probably the worst video card I owned, I remember this replaced my GeForce 7300 GT, and remember being baffled how everything ran worse.
It does make sense for an older, lower-end card to perform worse, no?
@@HazewinDog I was too young back then, I didn't know.
should try it with something like Red Alert 3 or Doom 3
Yeah I might try one of those games although I don't have high hopes that this card is able to run those games
@@TygoDoesStuff Doom 3 from 2004 requires GPU with 64MB VRAM. It will work.
I might try it then if I'll ever dig this card up from the pile of gpus in the attic
@@intriguingfacts5434 dude, it has 2 pixel shaders and 64-bit memory bus. It's on the level of Geforce 4 MX440 64-bit. That's something like Geforce 2 MX. It cannot handle Doom3 even on lowest details. He will have most likely 5-10fps at 640x480.
Oh, I had this GPU in my old test bench and I had to crash the driver installer to get them working
Need most wanted, GTA SA, need for speed underground 2, pes 2010, cs 1.6, tomb raider anniversary, emulators, flash games, a lot of good games played in this old video card.
Next time that I'll test this card I will make sure to test some older titles on this card, these modern titles I tested basically didn't have a chance of running
My grandma had the (much) faster GeForce 6200 back when. Underground 2 was indeed playable. I still have a video I recorded on her PC with Fraps. I had about 25fps even when recording. I doubt Most Wanted would be playable on it at a reasonable resolution though, let alone the much weaker LE variant...
I have this gpu but my qpu is 256 mb
Ooohh! What do you use your card for?
@@TygoDoesStuff I don't play games
That's how rtx 3090 will perform 16 years from now ... But would full some more fps than this for sure
excactly lol, I think that the RTX 3090 would perform more like how the gtx 580 performs right now
The solution is when you instal the drivers disconect the internet
Thanks!! I'll make sure to disconnect the internet next time I'll test this card!
I have this card and it's good for nothing. hell even james bond nightfire is playing 30 fps on lowest settings. lowest res and everything off and low. guess I'm gonna get rid of it. I'm getting a radeon hd 7470 instead.
Yeah this card was very bad when it launched and time hasn't really helped. That the gt 210 is still called the worst gpu is weird as this one in my experience takes the crown
u should've tried old games
Yeah, old games would probably have ran better on this card. Next time I'll make a review of this card I'll throw in some older titles!
Literally found this gpu in the trash
Where it belongs lol
Trash is more usable than this card
This is probably the worst modern graphics card
(If we say the FX series isnt modern)
It probably is the one of the worst cards that can fit into a pcie slot, especially with its 64mb of ddr vram
Fx was not that bad for the games of that era
I owned Geforce 6200 and PowerVR-based Intel GMA 3600 in Intel Atom N2600. Both were equally horrible, and this Intel GMA could not even run Commander Keen in DOS mode ... and no official driver for WinXP ...
I had this GPU! It was terrible! Even by the standards of its time, it was bad.
Yeah I dont understand how this gpu is not on any "worst gpus of all time" list while the gt 210 (which is much better than this one) is usually mentioned
@@TygoDoesStuff gt 210 doesn't exists.
stop acting like smart, when you are not.
it's geforce 210.
@@TygoDoesStuff also stop bashing this card. it's not bad.
it was just meant to be lowest end and cheapest solution, when you dont have iGPU. SO basicaly office work. It was not meant to game.
The shittiest GPU ever
libtard gen-Z logic - buy most lowend card from year 2005 that existed, (which would not be able to run even 2005 games in full detail, more likely low to medium detail at low fps), and run some 2012-2017 games on it.
and be suprised, that half of them not working or have 2 fps.
whatever...
they act, like games before year 2010 doesn't exists)... oh... they dont know them, because they dont want.
I understand now...
This video was more meant in a way of testing if this GeForce 210-esque card (but a couple more years older) could even run anything even remotely modern, just for fun. if I decide to make a new review I'll include a couple of older games (like Midtown Madness, Overlord II and TF2) to make it much more fair to this card.
@@TygoDoesStuffwtf
first game is from 1999 and second is from 2009.
JUST TEST DAMN 2002-2005 GAMES ON IT. :)
Kinda rude :( but yeah, I dont have much knowledge on games pre-2009 (as i was born in that 2002-2005 span) there probably won't be a second video on this gpu but if I ever decide to make one, what are some games I should test according to you?
@@TygoDoesStuff ok, edited it.
@@TygoDoesStuff 6200 LE was something like "if you dont iGPU , but want to add one cheaply as possible". 6000 generation is from end of year 2004. But 6200LE is probably even later, as lowend cards often was released later.
So in 2005, I would test FEAR as most demanding game. But in 1024x768, and medium detail. If it gets over 20 fps.
If not, try 800x600.
When, try some legendary 2004 games. It was along with 1998, best year for games.
So 1998 and 2004 had most great games released in gaming history.
2004's ones are Half-Life 2, Doom3 and Far Cry. All of them are very demanding for 2004 cards, and often even highend FX5000 generation wasn't enough for full detail.
This is, where 6200LE can go interesting, as 6000 was huge advanced over 5000 in terms of shading power.
I would try to run Doom3 in lowest settings, or in 800x600 medium details.
Half Life 2 is least demanding from them.
I would try that on medium settings.
FarCry probably 800x600 and 640x480 x 16 bit.
Then try some 2003 games, as Unreal Tournament 2003.
From older games, try Morrowind from year 2002. That should be enough for that game, as I've played it on Geforce 4 MX440 in year 2002, and it was ok on 800x600, high details (without pixel shaders)
