I saw the demonstration at Namm. Its the real deal. The technology behind this is real interesting. I believe they were going to start selling or renting the technology to other studios so they can start renting their equipment out as opposed to sessions. Looks cool for home mixing. Say you’re song is pretty much 90% mixed. Then you want to use the fusion or SSL comp. Cheaper to spend $6 to set the SSL real quick on the master and bounce. My limit on new analog gear is usually around $1,200 or so most the time. Unless my investments are doing good…no way I’m affording an SSL G compressor of Fusion! I could probably afford to get a Distressor though, and try it here.I bought most my expensive gear when I recorded people. Now I just make music for fun 🤷🏻‍♂️

... just checked their Instagram: You'll find movies showing their robotics in action there. How is latency handled / which delay you'll have to expect? When you turned knobs, I realized reaction is delayed substantially - while this should work fine for static settings, I imagine it could be difficult to ride parameters that way?

true, and you'd expect that really with the interface. Question is, is if you have analogue gear that needs dialing it, could it sound work because you simply can't dial in an EQ as good as an immediate plugin?

@@generichuman_ Yeah for me it's really about the workflow I can make a good mix both analog and digital but analog will get me there quicker most of the time. People who think they need analog to sound good aren't expecting the right things. Nowadays you can make a great mix analog and a great mix digital they will both sound great not one beter then the other just different. For me the analog workflow gets me to my desired destionation quicker. Hybrid is my favourite though, automation in the box big balance on a console eq on console and physical compressors.

In my experience with the plugin version, the saturation dial does nothing unless you engage the alt tube button on the right, and that's what appeared to happen here. Would have loved to have heard the air dial boosted also, but you didn't try it, just switched it on and off. This is why reading the manual is non-negotiable. There's no way to mix in context with either service, right? I mean, you can master entire mixes or edit individual tracks (or bussed groups), yet I don't see a way to do as much alongside other tracks which is a huge part of mixing. Good mixers don't solo things constantly and go from one to the next.

I think it is reasonable to be a little be disbelieving as this would be quite easy to fake. Like cheap mastering where you pay someone and they run it through Landr but charge you for their expertise. It would be hard to tell unless you were experienced with the gear and/or knew how to spot the harmonic content that you'd expect to see through using the analog gear. Very interesting.

how tf does latency work here? latency over a network is constantly fluctuating, meaning plugin delay compensation in the DAW cannot possibly work properly without time travel. tf??

It takes me so long and so much trial and error to tweak all my stuff that there's no way I could be expected to do it between the hours of 11am and whatever. I need whatever I use to be available 24/7 and I would hate to pay extra every time I need it.

As I understand it, you don't HAVE to reserve it, but if you need a specific piece of gear a reservation ensures that it's available.

I’m really curious about the technicalities of this. The audio has to be sent over a network (potentially not ideal), then the control data must also be sent and then the computer on their end must then control an arduino type of thing to control the servos. There is a lot of things in the chain that could potentially fail or not respond within a reasonable time frame in regards to latency. This can only work with a very good network connection otherwise it’s a show stopper. What if the network is congested or the control system can’t process the inputs fast enough? It’s got to be very sensitive to latency issues. It’s a cool idea but I see many bears on the road for practical, demanding uses.

Imagine, collecting data from sessions (like tuned parameters, output/input signal) and then building AI based on this. On start it could set just a 1 unit good, but as a time would go it would be able to make masters like no1 else. They will be rich as hell.
I really hope they are doing this, cause its not the hardest job when you have tons of amazing data within the range of your hand.
Have to say, i would kill to be able to build such AI.
    Stay safe!
