    It’s a great plugin for home studios - just as a note, when you load your own reference track you can select a smaller portion of the track and it seems to get a better “goal setting” (like a chorus section)

    I know I'm a little late on this but I have emailed the guys at MTM and have even helped find bugs in the plugin which have all been fixed in the updates. Anway, I can confirm that this plugin DOES actually give great suggestions for low end tailoring. Actually, I was experimenting one night, and used pair of regular "crap" speakers (Kilpsch ProMedia 2.1) which have poor frequency response for low end (although they are a great set of PC speakers) and did a quick master with Bassroom, just the low end. I then checked it on my my pair of HS8s and yes, the sound was pretty balanced.
    Next, I took a song I was mixing, and for the hook, I used a pair of Avantones in mono, and did a quick mix and master on a pair of HS50m (the original pair with the the 80Hz lowcut switch in the back). Ok, so I cheated a little and used a reference track with Bassroom and Plugin Alliance's Audio Metric AB. Lol...I was actually blown away at how well the track actually sounded not having the ability to actually hear anything below 90Hz because of the lowcut at 80Hz. It actually sounded relatuvely amazing. It's like...if you're going to take a guess at the lowend...with those two plugins and no way to hear the low end, most likely, your mix will actually sound more than satisfactory, by literally, mixing blind. Lol. It's actually quite interesting. We have a lot of tools now, that we didn't have years ago. I'd say, the combination of those two plugins can take anyone to another level within minutes. I'm actually amazed every time I use them. At the time of writing this, I've had months to experiement with both those plugins and I can say with all honesty...for Bassroom...it's totally worth it. Metric AB...totally worth it. Having both!? Well, test them both out and decide for yourself. Personally, I wish I had these years ago.

    Another cool trick with importing a song into the plugin is being able to select just a section for it to analyze, like just the chorus, instead of the whole song.

    I think its great. What is a handy feature is the gainmatch suggester. Perfect level match, and that way you are ALSO effectively changing mid and highs and some harshness CAN dissapear in the process due to the mix lacked lowend and that was creating more harshness, either way it makes you focus on what is important. It does not solve frequency masking, rather enhance it making you work harder in the right places!

    @Bryon Dean . I would like to see Pensado EQ reviewed too! I probably wouldn't think demo any plugin that expensive myself but when you work 90%+ in the box i think its worth looking at convolution based solutions if you ever really want a slightly "more" analogue feel. The IR community used to share everything and communicate openly but the best got headhunted by Altiverb (Fokke van Saane we're looking at you! Another Legendary Netherlander). Static snapshots of out of reach spaces and hardware have really helped me to cheaply train my ears (a little). I've personally been obsessed with IR's for years now so a recreation of an entire signal path , dynamically applied , is a fascinating glimpse into a €100k studio for a geek like me (i know it's called an eq but it's not just equalising afik). It IS arguably just some of Dave's "colour pallet" in snapshots, but personally i think that in it's self is fascinating! Possibly not "the end to all shitty mixes" but i'd like someones opinion with better monitors and ears than mine lol .. Keep up the good work

Heavy on the subs and bass which trying to get them to not vanish on crap speakers is always a balance.I just got their mastering the mix plug-in from plug-in boutique and have to say I love it. • @borndrumming1972
    @borndrumming1972 4 года назад

    So, the ummph (outside of eqing digitally) that you loose, happens to almost all of us when we mix multiple tracks of broadband frequency information together on conventional monitoring systems. This is especially for mixes done in rooms that have not been treated and tuned to the speaker systems that are in them. I can't explain why because I don't have a Dr of physics and engineering in acoustics. But, the one who explained it to me says that it happens around the 118hz to 125 hz range. Just pick your favorite mix and watch it on the spectral. You will notice that the area I am describing will be dropping below the 0db line. I have started adding some of this to my mastering process or correcting it in the mix. It will be different for every track but it will be somewhere around those frequencies. After you do, the car test will sound much better in that punchy area. Next, This plug-in actually made some interesting moves. Thanks for sharing as always. Great video. Cheers!

    I wonder what it's doing in the harmonics department? Can you run a sweep and see what it adds?
    I'm unconvinced about the audability of filter ringing in the low end, considering how much a physical transducer and especially room add. Group delay has been studied a fair amount for example and has a high threshold.
    The unusual frequency shaping and possibly harmonic effect is more interesting to me. The target feature is good too :)

    • @soundcore183
      @soundcore183 4 года назад +1

      I guess it is restrictive to have a focus on a good sound as a good mix isn't always dependent on to be mixed in key or having a strong focus on harmonic mixing system. You don't need any phase or frequency correction just some reference points and boom you get it sound perfect right? But having tools like metric ab, eq3, dsm v3 and bax EQ still make someone questioning tools like that any worries bassroom and levels are both great to nail it down and are technologically top notch for that matter

Even if you want to use it subtly, it creates distortion extremely quickly. The lack of a visual analyzer in the interface is also a big downside. I really like your way of looking at those plugins and music stuff things.. Really critical and honest.. Keep doing and pushing! The world has enough people liking just every crap out there.. And seems you really know what you are talking about. Just great content! ;)
    Something i was thinking about the last days.. Nowadays there are so many peaople doing music without any musical education and pretty limited knowledge about that technical part of production.. But everyone is producing and releasing.. For me as a educated musician and producer is this pretty frightening.. All that 'not so good' music (from a musical/ music harmony view) influences the whole market and the consumers are getting used to that crap'ish stuff... For example that annoying high hat in trap music.. Is it so hard to change some velocities or sidechain-compress that stuff..? ... And it influenced that whole market....
    And just so btw.. i checked your instagram out... You ARE a god dmn influencer..! You influence me pretty hard with your critical thinking.. But i think i'm fine with that.. ;)
    Never wrote that kinda long comment for a youtube-video.. Sorry for that! So..! Your great, keep doing, i'm opening a musicstudio end of dezember (4 months of working for that), any advice? :P

    I've always liked Flux analyzers, but for some reason I never got any of their plugs for my home studio. They where of course in many studios I've been in. But ever since I found Nugen Audio I havn't looked back as they have filled the void for me and then some! Some of the best and overlooked analyzers, sterioizers, and correction type of software out there. And some very interesting stuff that blurs the lines a little bit. If you havnt tried Nugen Audio give it a go, especially for mastering work! They are essential for me, and this pluggin(Mastering the Mix Bassroom) seems to fit in the same catagory as I consider Nugen Audios plugins. Nugen Audio is a very overlooked plugin company!

    A crucial setting is the Q, which Mr Oil didn't adjust...which would have made his eq graph look quite different. BTW, I ind Bassroom useful on my Americana tracks...there is nothing worse than a string bass with no stones. Same with contemporary country.

    Yep, I'd hire Alan Parsons in a cowshed (complete with cows) over Fiverr Freddie in Abbey Road.
    To me this sounds interesting but more like one of those presets on a cheap Boom Box that say things like Techno and do something that makes the music sound a bit "spacey".
    The EQ curves are interesting. I am a fan of non-linear shapes as the ear does find them interesting.
    I think I'd have to A/B on my own material to see if I liked it. But as you say I am not in the EDM/Rap space so...

    Creating the perfect low end - I would start with creating a perfect listening position with perfect monitor placement and room treatment.

      'Perfect' doesn't exist and/or comes at a cost, normally a huge one. So any tool that eliminates my, or the room's flaws is always welcome, right?

      @@mrpickenz7760 great audio engineers don't make music what it is because they have amazing equipment they make music what it is because they learn how to use the equipment/plugins there are no "bad" audio engineers just ones who either jumped in too fast expecting to know what everything is and does. or ones who took time to do play with plugins and understand how different effects work instead of jumping in and overloading their brains with confusing information.
      You can make amazing music with even a laptop and a laptop mic it's how your using it that makes that big difference just a word of encouragement to let you know equipment is not everything you need to make amazing hits

      @@mrpickenz7760 Don't let that stop you from being creative. Actually, using headphones is better, you don't need ''room treatment'' and you can hear detail much better, specially lower frequencies. Just get really good at knowing your headphones and practice, practice, practice. That way, when you get a pair of monitors you''ll crush it on headphones and monitors! But seriously, headphones are more accurate if you know them fully.
