- ***DISCLAIMER: I am not a professional! I am a DIY mechanic showing you how I perform my regular maintenance. I may not do things "by the book", I sometimes call parts the wrong names and my videography can suck at times. My Apologies. I am merely making this video for fun and to show that the average person can tackle these jobs. I take no responsibility for any damage that you cause if you try this job yourself. Thanks for watching!****
In this video I show how to clean your Mass Airflow Sensor and Throttle Body using CRC sprays and a few hand tools. Vehicle is a 2004 Toyota Sienna with the 3.3L V6 engine. Total time invested was about 30 mins. This process should be similar for most fuel injected vehicles.

As a mechanic, my warning to you is to spray the cloth and rub it. You have sensors in there that you can damage permanently by spraying directly into the throttle body. Just an FYI.
Solid advice, the Toyota instructions for cleaning the throttle body suggest the same thing.

Well done, maybe not to the expectations of some unnecessary name-calling experts in the comments, they may know how to do this job correctly, but they fail miserably in how to be nice to others.
Thanks for posting, so much more easy to follow and comprehensive than other videos out there on this subject, thank you - will do this well needed job this week thanks to you.
Seeing you access the throttle body was excellent. "The Car Care Guy" is a good reference for cleaning the throttle body.
Thank you for the full description and step by step process. Great!
Great vid and the step by step. Thx!
Thank you very much for your video. It helped me a lot.
One of the best tutorial videos of its type. Thank you! Very clear, very well lit, understandable, and informed. I gotta go do this to my Sienna this afternoon, and this is going to help tremendously.
How are you doing
Where do you live?
Do you want us to meet up ?
This video helped make my sienna run smooth. Thank you!
Your cat was thirsty, trying to get water from the hose. Great video.
Gracias amigo por tu tiempo
I had the same situation as Taylor and was looking for a vid just like this. Keep them coming and forget the troll.
Really helpful video, thanks. I sort of had the opposite problem with the ECU. I had unknowingly reset the ECU on my '04 Sienna during a prior repair by disconnecting the battery. This was causing the car to idle too low and stall when coming to a stop. A quick internet search suggested that resetting the ECU tricked my computer into thinking it was running a clean throttle body. While I did not clean the mass air sensor at this time, I did clean the throttle body and replace the air filter. Totally did the trick, thanks again!
Taylor Shellen hwo do you reset the ECU?
My ECU was reset unintentionally when I disconnected the battery, and left it disconnected for a period of time. I think 1/2 an hour should do the trick.
This happened to me as well on my Tundra. I reset the ECU but what happened to me is actually the engine would start but it would die seconds later. I cleaned the throttle body and and MAF it started right up.
Thanks for the vids man.
Hey Thanks for the great video, I have a 2008 Toyota Solara sle 3.3 v6 coupe .....I live in Canada, and I bought the car 4 years ago from the U.S.A . Louisville Kentucky, it had only 41,000 miles on it and now has 70,000 miles......Lately it has been starting very hard , almost like it's fuel vapour locked, but starts up on the second turn of the key......There is no check engine light on, although the check engine light does work.....very smooth idle, and lots of power .......Going to give this a try with the cleaning in your video, wish me luck , you made it look very easy........Thanks again, I will be sure to Subscribe
thank you fro the video, got 2 questions: 1- will the computer relearn the pattern on its own or I have to disconnect the battery negative? 2- the cleaning spray is different for both parts? so the throttle cleaner wont work on the MAF and vise versa?
Thanks -- well done... I wish I could find a video on how to replace the accelerator pedal sensor (P2128 Code). I have a 2004 ES330.
I still need to do this to the 240sx, never thought to do the throttle body too. good thinkin'!
Yeah buddy! Honestly I didn't think about it either until I saw the 2 can pack at walmart. It's a good deal since one of the regular sized cans is almost $10!
May sound crazy to ask but is the road in your video from Madison VA? If so is the road RT 230 coming from RT29? It looks so familiar that I don't think it could be any place different.
how can I tell if I just need to clean the mass air flow sensor or actually replace it
After you said don't Breath this you took a deep breath 😂
thank you bro
Damn you were rough with that throttle body lol entertaining all the same..
I believe you can move the butterfly , but it has to be done slowly. Also cleaner should be sprayed into rag, not into throttle body.
درود بر شما متشکرم اقا
When starting at first my idle was high, I went to clean and found the band on the throttle body was real loose. I tighten and will clean another day. Now it starts and it is not as high. Question will there be relearning without cleaning throttle body ? Seams Idle is at 600 after a ride and in park.
The cat was the best part of this video 😂
Saludos vi el video y no se cambian las bujias despues de este prosedimiento
A very scenic road ! where is thar road ?
That extended crank time mainly because of that cleaner in there
Bro, you were a total butcher with that throttle valve!!!!!! All you do is put the key in the on position and put a rock on the gas pedal to hold it open. That valve has an electric motor that you're really not supposed to smash around!!!!!!
Joe Schwartz after going through a few videos I have yet to hear this comment, thanks.
Will he could of just uses a flat screw driver push it in holding the throttle valve plate open and cleaned it with a used tooth brush or ask a person turn key the on position step on gas pedal for him to open the throttle valve plate open so he can clean it with a used tooth brush too.if he uses a rock that rock much be pretty heavy because the throttle cable line linked to the gas paddle pretty tight some times. It wouldn’t works with a light weak in weight of a rock.
id use the mass airflow cleaner on the TPS
Bro, resetting ECU is auto technician professional job, no one should mess with it, unless they have been trained how to adjust ECU properly; best is let computer relearn which driven some miles after computer can recalculate that is a SAFE method. Still, U took time n upload so give credit 4 that. Overall, good job.
Markas Rowman.anyone can reset the ecu.just got to disconnect battery for about a minute then its done
Engine compartment is silly clean for an '04.
why use a feather duster to clean when you can use a manchette..
have you got Christmas lights behind you on your headlining ?
After I followed your instruction to clean, my car won't start today -:(
for everyone who sees this the most likely thing to fix it is to tighten down the filter section better
What did you use to clean the airflow sensor? The brand? Thanks!!!!
Uniform Tango 74 I believe the brand is CRC? Thanks
Sweet. I'll be looking for it.
THX!
Did the RPM come back down to normal idle?
I decided not to wait for it to come back down and reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for 15 mins. Worked perfectly :)
I would think it better if you removed the entire throttle body and taken it apart; then clean all the parts thoroughly; by letting it soak in the chemical. Then dry every part thoroughly, put the parts back together and then reinstall it.
Not to mention that carbon is on ALL of the intake plenum (manifold) and that NEEDS to be cleaned too. A BIG job for sure, but I believe it is worth it.
Of course I could be wrong. I meant NO disrespect.
Did the idle ever come down to .5 lol
he would never work on my worse enemies vehicle you are wreckless inside that throttle body
Dude duct taped his HID ballast.. WTF BRUHHH!
You’re hot, man!!
Try seafoam- way to aggressive here.
Do you think this is our problem? We just replaced the battery on our Toyota Sienna. Since replacing the van dies when idling. If you push the throttle it runs, but dies when idling. Battery tested good. Alternator tested fine.
rprmsr Any time the battery is disconnected for too long it will run very rough when a battery is hooked back up to it. I suggest sitting in it with your foot on the gas, just enough to keep the rpms consistent, for a few minutes, and then taking it for a drive for about 30 minutes. That's totally normal.
snuffinthepunk thx! Yes we figured that out eventually. Though we had even mechanics stumped, lol. Thanks for the reply!
Sensor might damage on that. Pls don't spread that idea...
All had to do to clean MAF properly was unscrew it theres 2 tiny screws. Take it out. You showed one side of them wire/sensor w.e wanna call them. One side can be clean but theres 2 sides plus the lil ones inside that tunnel so maube didnt even complete nor benefit the vehicle the way you did it... missimformative
Terrible, take the housing off AND all of it apart or dont waste your time.
You know it comes off right? Your getting 10% of it. Once your down that far, which isnt much, its not much more to get the body off.
*Mark all your hoses and connections* Simple.
The cleaning process is not correct, because this process destroys the machine.
LOL I've never broken a throttle body cleaning like this. You have very delicate vehicles if they break with a little cleaning.
i am a crazy diyer like you but i would never ever do anything first on my engine electrical components after i disconnect the negative battery first for your car safety and specially your wallet and i will tell you this it will never be fun spending lots of money on a bad job like you did...do some research first bro thats the best thing you can do before doing anything stupid...your a lazy diyer bro if you do a work do your best...i always takeout the throttle body on the engine and clean it then install it again thats the way to do it ...by the way its your car not mine so goodluck to you...
I'm certainly you're working on your car and not mine. Butcher!
"All that crappy..".thank$ your doing wel...l so much less "BS" than others....(videos) now are there two different 🎉sprays....? I'll look, can one type spray b used, ....? Very, very helpful...." Didn't even use the 🪛🪛🪛🪛 ii"
