Florida State "Fake Return Man" Trick Play vs NC State | 2022 College Football
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 28 сен 2024
- During the college football game between Florida State and NC State, Florida State put two players back to return a punt and one of them acted as if he was about to catch the ball even though it was actually on the other side of the field. NC State fell for the trick and the Seminoles returned the ball into NC State territory.

Even the punter started moving the way of the fake guy and he kicked the ball!
Wow yes you are correct. On the slow motion replay he starts to head to his left when he had actually punted to his far right. That punter went full ret@rd.
I can only imagine the reality bending moment that must have been for that guy xD
@@WalkerFilmsOfficial poor kicker.. be like mmmm.. how???!!
The punter was just drifting towards his teams sideline. He was watching where he kicked the ball the entire time.
Lmbo
Most surprising thing abt this game so far was seeing Ryan Fitzgerald make a field goal
No doubt
@@pschighlights do you think Kansas will beat Oklahoma
@@ausm5569 hell yeah
@@ausm5569 honestly if I had to put money on it I’m putting it on Oklahoma. Just think Oklahoma’s superior talent and home field advantage will be too much for Kansas.
@@pschighlights bro they lost 49-0 today 😭
As a former high school football coach, I never understood how this happens. I always taught our gunners to "look for the ball", not look at the potential receiver of the ball. They just seem to all run down the field and never look up! This happens a lot unfortunately! Lol! It's the same with man to man coverage.....look back to find the ball and quit face guarding the receiver!
I think the fake return man should run backwards instead of forwards to draw the coverage team further out of position
Yuuuuup. Rams did this to the Seahawks years ago. As a Hawks fan all I could do was shake my head, smile, and give respect for such an excellent deception.
I remember the Rams doing this in the NFL a few years back
yup yup good memory!
I'm a seahawks fan so sadly I remember it as well.
@@TheWatchernator sadly, the Hester one got called back bc of holding😭
Return man got a great bounce… ball could easily have went out of bounds but it bounced right into his hands.
The old fake return man play. Love it. 😁
Pack fan here. And even I was thrilled at that PR. It was pretty spectacular.
The fake return man should’ve made it seem like it was a long punt and back up further for it to be effective
:19 #4 (the *Faker*) is so hyped up I love it lol
Mycah Pittman's older brother, Michael Jr., pulled that same punt return stunt when he was at USC in 2017 against UCLA. He took it to the House. The video is on RUclips.
Thank you for this because I was trying to find that video
Chicago Bears done this years ago against the packers. Devin Hester was a decoy, and Johnny Knox ran it back for a TD. Unfortunately, it was called back for a bs block call, but it was really cool to see
That was savage
That’s some next level special teams
This was a great play design and return, it honestly had me fooled at first 😂. Just Please don’t let up in the second half Noles.
Spoke too soon 😢
@@brysonalbritton519 Facts 😔, but our offense has been struggling big time tonight and last week and it’s getting me frustrated.
@@SirJDC20 well the dropped passes for first down didn’t help and then we killed ourselves with the penalties we had 10/100 yards of penalties we clean that up we’ll be a solid squad
@@brysonalbritton519 I agree 100 percent
@@SirJDC20 defense held they’re own only bad thing I have to say Is norvelle gotta do sum bout akeem dent dude don’t ever wanna tackle and if he does it’s a missed tackle
This trick play was easily overcome by the 4th-quarter-38-seconds-left-three-timeouts-on-the-clock-down-by-two-points-ball-on-the-NC-State-22-inside-field-goal-range-2nd-and-8 decision by FSU to throw the ball and have it intercepted in the End Zone. That's an easy trade.
GO PACK!
So I was never a punter or anything like that, but punters can pretty well aim and choose where to put the ball at the college level right? Wouldn’t this be something called in the huddle that the ball is going right? Seems like a little planning on the part of the kicking team could avoid this. Yes I suppose there is always the chance that the punter shanks it and throws off the play with regard to left vs right side of the field, but still.
Anyway, feel free to educate me. I’m sure there is a reason this fake works so well that the kicking team couldn’t stop, but I don’t know what it is.
Awesome. By the way who won that game ?
It goes to show you how teams pay more attention to the players than they do the football.
That was AWESOME - good job!
The cameraman was fired
Now show their punter running past line of scrimmage before kicking it
The University of Michigan last year twice and scored touchdowns on both
That play is called the Hokey Pokey. Probably.
Still can't figure out why this works. The punter should tell the team in the huddle where he will kick the ball and they should run to that area. No way then that the ball would land on the other side of the field.
I love big brain plays
We can see Fsu getting rank again
Oof. This didn’t age well.
You must have watched a different game than the rest of us
I love stuff like this!
He is so lucky it bounced the way it did.
USC did the exact play few years ago with a Michael Pittman but actually scored.
If you listen closely, the announcer calls him Michael lol
Sick ass play
very
Florida State has to be one of the greatest teams ever in the history of football. This is pure genius, never before seen and it results in such a huge burst of points that NC State just gave up and left the field shortly. Wow - this was SO important for Florida State's next national championship.
Lol stay off the drugs clown
Go touch some grass, also your comment is cringe
It's actually a Pittman thing. Pittman's brother, when he played for USC, did the exact same thing against UCLA and took it all the way for a score.
would it have killed you to show the next play, 10 seconds, did they score?
Great play
Genius
That’s cute and all, but it’s become about as common as the play action pass. I think the first time I saw this was with Devin Hester as the decoy, and needless to say, 11 guys surrounded him and the return went unmolested for 6. That was cool. But it’s starting to feel like the same joke being told over and over again.
He would've had a TD if the fake return man and blockers hadn't all turned to look at him so early.
Did they get points out of it?
How did they know it would be kicked to the right? It looked like he was committed in that direction. Was there another player going to the left?
They have an option for both direction. If the kick was to left, they'd fake the other way.
I'm just surprised anybody named "Pokey Wilson" could ever make it on a college football team!
I've always wondered how these trick plays could even work. Don't they call the play, including which side of the field the punter is aiming for, before the snap?
If the ball went to the other side of the field the "fake" returner and the "real" returner would reverse roles. This trick play works so well because 1) punting team never expects it and 2) helmets block ariel view of the football.
@@equipacanada5237 no
Neat little bit of treachery it worked perfectly
Didn’t a team do this many years ago
Falcons(?) or someone had double returners and faked to the opposite, but they were about the same yardage
First one that comes to mind is the Rams & Seahawks one from a decade ago maybe
Think the Rams one went for a TD if I remember correctly been a long time don’t recall exactly how it went
@@OnlyGoodVybes Seahawks was my second guess- one Rich Sherman did to CHI, then had one done to them by the Rams, which is the one we all were probably thinking of...
@@OnlyGoodVybes yeah that’s it
Haven’t seen one of those in years.
How does the kicking team not know where he's aiming it?!?!?
They do.

That’s what you call the hoaxy pokey
That Pokey was not Hokey.
We had the game won why did we throw the ball
I can’t blame NC state for this their backs are to the ball but what the hell were the commentators and nc state sideline looking at???
Michael Pittman?
Is Florida State good now?
Yes

Should have saved that play they was already up
They just like saying pokey
Remind me again why NC State is ranked and not Florida State
Because we lost last week but I think it’s bull because we should of been ranked higher than 23 and we fell out the top 25 but lsu somehow was 25 this week and fsu beat lsu a lot of biased
@@Mikey12347 NC State lost last week as well
Perhaps because NC State is better than FSU?
lol, nice!
“That’s a designed call.” Thank you captain obvious
He also called him Michael Pittman, when that's his brother lol
Nice job by the announcer
“footballsplaining”🙄
Then what happened… 😂
poki?
FSU ending teams playoff hopes? they really are on track to being back.
NC State doesn’t have any playoff hope.. this game doesn’t impact them at all
This didn’t age well
Who's here for Pokey 😂
Florida State lost anyway...on a bonehead coaching decision.
USC did it better
If only they had a coach, would have won that game easily.
Bum play
🐑
0:51 Nice job by #23 too, he could have obliterated the NC State player which would have resulted in a penalty, but instead was smart and just held him up enough for the returner to scoot by.
Exactly what I was thinking.
That in itself is a HUGE improvement on what FSU usually would've done
True, but it also shows how soft football has become.
I say this as someone probably with mild CTE but it's not as fun to watch.
@@oogrooq no it shows that ending someone's career isn't the only option to make a play, if you want to watch people get hurt watch the UFC
@@oogrooq this is such a dumb take... there is no need for blindside hits to be allowed for football to seem "tough". cheat shots are not touch. walking up to someone clearly not paying attention and punching them in the face is not tough. so why is penalizing cheap hits "soft"? the dude on this play made a good block.. when youre in pursuit of the ball and taking an angle, inevitably you will have to run with your head turned. anyone who has legitimately played football on EITHER side of the ball knows that. it's like when a WR leaves his feet to make a catch. it's a sort of respect thing to not try to ruin someone's career, or even worse, life. blindside/defenseless hits are almost always premeditated out of emotion or blatant ignorance or both, and there is absolutely no reason for them, which is why it's an easy 15 yard call.
Genius
Jeff Fisher just shed a single tear of joy.
Good timing. The "Florida Man Special" in the punt return got NC State. Despite the lost, what a game!
That's actually an amazing time to break that out
You're right
You're exactly right. Low risk situation. Not much to lose had it not worked.
Pokey Wilson sounds like a Wild West brothel owner
Or the town jailor.
I don't watch a lot of football, but it's always cool to watch the running back or special teams guy turn on the jets when he has a path through the defense.
That was for #20. He totally left his lane.
Waterboy said out of Gatorade punt team 🏈 🤓 mix your own 🍯👅😅
I've seen my Seahawks involved on both sides of this type of trick play
I paid for these crab legs! I swear!
Must be a WR on special teams he tracked that ball down pefrctecky in stride and sprinted bank he must have been tired asf after that
Wanna see it done to perfection? Watch Utah's Boobie Hobbs and Britton Covey run it back for a TD against Oregon in 2015. Masterclass.
All this for Norvell to ruin it lol
Would have been a flag on me, I would've decleated tf out of the first NC State player.
Pookie Wilson > Pokey Wilson
Now show the one where fsu punter kicked the ball five yards past the line of scrimmage
Got us all fooled lol
Still lost
How did the punter nor the up man blockers see where the ball was kicked?
As a rugby guy this kind of play blows my mind. Surely the punter tells his side where he plans to kick? And if he miskicks it then surely he can shout "left" or "right" or "middle"? Absent that, one of the lagging chasing players could spot the ball and shout out to the lead chasers? This should never happen.
Wow you tricked a bunch of low level college scrubs...you must be amazing at football and should be in the NFL. Lol jk I know this is how college football is, great way to teach them some lessons on ball awareness and lane coverage.
This is like watching 2020 all over again. So many sheep just following the crowd. 🤦🏻♂️
It was well done, except that they blew their trick play in the first half of a game they were already leading by 11 points and didn't need it. Their future opponents are going to be coached to look for it now.
Just think, the same coach that called this play called the entire second half. Mind baffling. Is he betting on the games? 🤦♂️
Then they faked being a competent football team and threw a game losing interception when🤣
all they had to do was run out the clock. 🤣🤣🤣
