Connect XBOX One Controller To PC Bluetooth (Wirelessly)

- Today we are going to take a look on how to connect an XBOX One controller to a Windows 10 PC wirelessly via Bluetooth. For this to properly work you will need Windows 10, a Bluetooth adapter or integrated Bluetooth with Bluetooth 4.0 or higher and a second generation Xbox One controller. If your controller is a first generation one you can use the official Microsoft adapter to connect it to your PC.

When you connect your X1 (Xbox One) controller to your PC via Bluetooth make sure you DO NOT use a charging cable to hook it up as you would on an X1 console. Doing so will corrupt your Bluetooth connection on your X1 controller. Your Bluetooth settings will say your controller is still paired and connected but it's really not and you wont be able to reconnect it for there is no option for that.
Here's how you can fix this problem:
1. Unpair your controller on your Bluetooth settings.
2. Restart your computer. (Make sure your X1 controller is off)
3. Pair your X1 controller again wirelessly by holding down the Xbox button until it blinks slowly, then hold down the tiny button on the top of the controller next to the LB button until the Xbox light blinks rapidly.
4. Click on "Add Bluetooth or other Devices" and scan for "Bluetooth". Do not choose "Everything Else" for that only applies to certain X1 controller devices. If your device shows up click on it and if your Xbox light becomes solid then you're all set!
5. If your battery is low DO NOT hook it up to your PC or your X1 console for the console will reset the controller and autopair it with the console instead and the PC will just corrupt the connection. Use a wall outlet, power bank or replace fresh batteries if they are not charagable.
As for X360 controllers You HAVE to connect a cable to your pc for it's not compatible for your PC. Unless you have a wireless adapter.

@SuperPaul2006 I'm going through it now. I was curious enough that I connected my wireless Xbox controller to my pc using a random USB cable and since then, I can't connect via Bluetooth. The controller works only when using that same cable. I did what you said here but it didn't work for me. After restarting my pc, I would hold the xbox button for so long. It blinks, but only when I keep holding the button. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME!
@@lemichaelcubero3577 Delete the controller from the Bluetooth profiles on your PC (if it is still there) THEN next time you try connecting by holding down the xbox button also press the small bluetooth button at the very top of the controller that everyone forgets is there. Bam. You are connected. See, you learned something from a school district today.

I was trying to figure this out for forever, and your video was the only one that helped. Every other source was telling me to use 'everything else' when it turns out 'bluetooth' was what I needed.

I got an elite controller myself and I think it's a waste of money to be honest the rubber grips are coming off an the sticks rubber are all busted up.

It shouldn't have Bluetooth. It's got so much components cramped inside that thing there's no room for Bluetooth.

When i choose the everything else option, it just loads and loads, eventually never connecting...
You need to choose Bluetooth if you use BT. You choose Everything else only if you are using the Microsoft adapter.

Also if you have builtin bluetooth just hit the top option of adding a buletooth device works just fine.

I have a question - once I sync my controller and it's connected, everything works great. However, when I won't play for a longer time period, it will turn off and after I turn it on again and try to connect it to the BT, it won't. I have to erase it from the list of devices, then re-sync it. It's not really something I can't live with, I just wanted to know if you knew the solution to my problem? Thanks man

As far as I experienced in the past, you need to update the firmware of the controller and windows. To update the controller plug it in wired and access the Xbox accessories application. In the application you can update the controller firmware.

Go to "bluetooth & other devices" click "Add bluetooth or other device", then click the first option. Hold down the Xbox and Sync button on your controller and select it once it pops up on your PC

In theory, only once. And when you go to settings and turn on Bluetooth, once you turn on your controller as well it should connect automatically. It does like this on my laptop, I don't have to pair it again, but on an older version of Windows 10 I had to pair it after every boot.

my dongle is 4.0, my controller is newer, Y bought in the last week in BEST BUY..
but appears "check the PIN and tru connecting AGAIN"
Try updating drivers in Device manager, or download the latest driver from the manufacturer's website of the dongle. If there isn't one try finding what type your dongle is, they are mostly made by Chinese companies and sold under many different names. What you want to know is what type of Bluetooth module/chip it has and download the driver. Also, I have been told in the past that the last 4 digits of the serial number of your controller or dongle might work as a PIN code.
Can you connect to your phone with both your PC and controller? That can give you information about what's wrong.

I was also able to connect my cell phone to the 4.0 dongle, and I was also able to connect the controller to my cell phone. I formatted the computer and I still can't connect the Xbox controller with the dongle. yesterday I bought a new adapter but it will only arrive on Monday. My dongle is Cambridge CSR. LMP 6.0 I didn't find drivers for windows10. and I also can't enter the PIN because there is no box to enter the text... Only try connect again or check the PIN some times the error change.. tks against HOWToIT. My mother board is Asus b250F strix

It must mean that you either don't have Bluetooth or your adapter is not recognized by Windows, which must mean it doesn't have it's drivers installed.

Don't forget, you also have to make sure you have a more recent generation controller. The generations that are equipped with Bluetooth capabilities have a flat, downward ramp-like surface to the Xbox button. If your controller has a sharp edge around the Xbox button, you do not have access to Bluetooth.

Check your game compability with your controller or try using 3rd party software(i recommend using joytokey)
All I had to do was go to settings, Bluetooth devices, add new, and press on my controller; after I held the pair button

You need to buy the official Microsoft wirless adapter or connect it with a microB cable to use it wired. In wired mode it's plug and play, no setup needed. You need to wait a couple of minutes after the first connection for it to automatically configure.

Hi. I have a doubt: for the second gen joystick it is not necessary to have the original xbox proprietary adapter; with any third party bluetooth adapter (4.0 or higher) would work, right?? But the 1st gen joystick needs obligatory the original xbox bluetooth adapter, wright?? Thanks
