      I doubt they are even going to pull the bolts out to check them properly. Just want people to sign off on inspections. If there was welding debris more than likely fucked both threads so no worth messing with it

      @@T_O_Negative If the dealer mechanic does not see any weld splatter on the end plate around the nuts you can bet the most they will do is check the nuts with a torque wrench and the truck will be in and out in 10 minutes. If they find welding splatter on the surface around the four nuts they will have to remove the nuts and see of there is weld splatter under the nuts, if there is the likely remedy will be they lightly grind off or file off the weld splatter under the nuts and reinstall new nuts to the correct torque spec and I bet use loctite as well.

      Depends on the year and build date of your Tacoma, if you have a Tacoma that was built before 5/22 then you are not part of the recall. The recall runs from 5/22 though late 2023 models of the Tacoma.

      If there is no weld splatter on the surface of the end plate around the four nuts on each side and the nuts are flush against the end plate and they are not loose you are ok, not every Tacoma has the issue but Toyota and the axle manufacture do not know how many of the axle tube end plates were affected. I have a copy of the rear axle assembly page and it shows the correct torque specs to be 36Nm/27 ft lbs of torque. If you convert Nm to ft lbs you will find that 36Nm is 27 ft lbs of torque and vise versa.

Some have found the end plate has weld splatter on that end plate around the nuts, those are the ones that need to pay special attention to this, it is the weld splatter that keeps the nut from seating flush with the end plate when it is tightened and those are the ones that can loosen and fall off.

    I have a 22 Taco I bought new in 3/22. No recall letter yet, and the truck has been excellent so far. Saw a bunch of posts from owners about getting them "tuned". Not sure what that's about. Why mess with something that isn't broken?

    • @TheYotaChannel
      @TheYotaChannel  4 месяца назад +2

      It's not necessarily broken, but anytime there's a case of an accident as a result of a manufacturing defect, even if it's one or two. The manufacturer will jump on top of it to maintain customer trust. That's the case here. I have never seen one separate or come loose.

    • @mustangecoboosthpp3869
      @mustangecoboosthpp3869 3 месяца назад

      Tuned refers to reprogramming the ECU with an aftermarket program, I don't like the tunes for the Tacoma because so far none of them allow you to do the programming with a hand held device, you have to go to the tuner and they program the ECU, that means if you have to go to the dealer for something you have to go back to the tuner to have them reinstall the stock programming or you risk voiding your powertrain warranty. If you are out of warranty then a tune might be a worth while thing to do but while in warranty just understand you risk voiding the powertrain warranty.
      I have the 2.7 four cylinder, throttle lag is the biggest complaint of all Tacomas four or six cylinder, I purchased a Banks Power Pedal Monster for my 2.7 four cylinder Tacoma and it is a night and day difference. The Pedal Monster is not a tune, its sole job is to eliminate the throttle lag when to take off from a stop. I recommend the Banks Power Pedal Monster over all the others because Banks Power has built in multiple safe guards including going back to stock programming when you are in reverse and if something goes wrong it again reverts back to stock programming so you do not end up with what is called dead pedal, that is when the accelerator pedal becomes none responsive. Banks Power is the only one who has safe guards to avoid the dead pedal issue the other brands of throttle controllers have.
      You can see videos at Banks Power how their system works compared to all the others, the Banks Pedal Monster is the superior product.

      @mustangecoboosthpp3869 3 месяца назад

      This is what you need to look for as not every Tacoma was affected by the weld splatter but Toyota and the Axle Manufacture do no know how many axles were affected, what happened was a shield that protects to surface where the nuts go from weld splatter when the end plate is welded to the end of the axle tube was out of spec when they changed the design of the shield. If the area around the nuts is clean of weld splatter and the nuts are flush and tight then you don't have an issue, if you see weld splatter around the surface where the nuts are on the end plate then you might have a problem if there is any weld splatter under the nuts. The weld splatter will keep the nuts from seating flush against the end plate and that is what allows the nuts to loosen and even fall off if it is not caught.
      As for the torque spec Jrdagreat has given conflicting torque specs for these axle retainer bolts, he has said 33 ft lbs and 41 ft lbs but I have a copy of the page for the Tacoma rear axle assembly and that page shows the torque spec as 36Nm/27 ft lbs of torque. • @mustangecoboosthpp3869
      @mustangecoboosthpp3869 3 месяца назад +1

      This was an issue at the axle manufacture, they designed a new shield to protect the end plate from welding splatter when the end plate is welded onto the end of the axle tube, but the new designed shield when it was installed on there welding machine was out of spec and it allowed weld splatter to get on the surface of the end plate where the nuts tighten down. Not all Tacoma rear axles have this issue but Toyota and the Axel manufacture do not know how many axles were affected so the recall is for all of the Tacomas built between a certain date range starting in 5/22 and ending sometime in 2023. I have a 2023 Tacoma with a build date of 5/23 and it is under the recall but I looked at the rear axle tube end plates and there is no welding splatter on them around or near the four nuts and all four nuts on each side were tight.
