Hey Rob. I have a 2023 with the same squeaky steering wheel issue. I went on Amazon and purchased a steering wheel overlay in carbon fiber and it solved the squeaking issue.
Do you have a link for it?
Hi Rob, I have a 2021 Tacoma Trd off-road, mine made a noise not as bad as yours I just took a piece of foam with a small trim tool and push it underneath it and I fixed the problem 100%. It worked for me. Good luck.!
Thanks for the tip👍
Hey Rob they make some pretty cool vinyl wrap inserts for the taco hood that would kill all the glare. They look pretty cool too.
Agree gives a sporty look too.
For the glare on the hood I always tint all of the windows, including a light 30% on the windshield with a 5% strip across the top. This not only takes the glare off of the hood, but it also takes the glare off of the headlights of oncoming traffic at night time too.
That squeak would bug me yes.
As others have mentioned the OR has a completely different braking system than your last Tacoma so it initially may feel a little different until you are used to it. Im sure you’ll keep an eye on it anyway.
Your glasses are glowing Electric Lime Green from the reflections.
Lol! I think I’m turning green😂😂
Yup my 2023 TRD Sport steering wheel exact same thing. Drives me insane
It’s probably a warped injection molded part, it needs shimmed to take up slack.
The brake issue goes away after a couple hundred miles. I felt the same way, I now have 5000 miles and very much like the brakes.
Thanks for your post...I only have 150 miles on my new 2023 Taco Sport and felt the same way about the brakes the minute I left the dealership and continues to get my attention. Hope mine clears up too! otherwise quite possibly the perfect truck...lovin' it.
As far as a manual transmission is concerned you are correct. Basically the Toyota manual is just average/bad. But I will prefer it over the automatic due to transmission control of the vehicle. Unfortunately I can’t find low mileage manuals in late 2023. And Toyota will never make a reliable V6 Tacoma via emission laws and other regulations. So we are stuck with the vehicle even though there’s plastic parts on the engine and the engine shares its class with a Camry another Toyota models instead of staying merged with the forerunner. To me it’s more of a car then a truck.
I don’t have any squeaks in my 23 TRD Off Road but it has only 7K miles on it. And YES I’d take it back to Toyota to get it fixed immediately.
I agree with you about the Brakes. You do have to press harder to get them to engage. It bugs me but I’m getting use to it now.
The trd off road has an electric hydraulic brake booster. Your previous sr5 had a regular vacuum brake booster. The electro booster is for the crawl control and stuff. It is definitely different feeling. Took me a while to get used to but I find my stoping to be great.
I got the same year and model and if I touch underneath the steering neck plastic cover around the steering hub my fingers can poke through the two soft and flimsy corners. The brake noises you're addressing in my case comes from the larger brake booster, the off-road crawl control booster unit makes known loud sounds especially in crawl mode. The pads just need to break in and will feel more natural but no comparison to the sport in which it is soft and bites harder. I've noticed the soft Billstein's nose dives if sudden hard breaking and at first was dramatic. After a while the shocks felt stiffer and breaking in the brakes improved a bit. I'm light-footed and don't like the long travel feel of the brake pedal in the sr5 and sport as much but took some adjusting to get used too.
It's because your coming to from a rear wheel 🛞 drive to a 4 wheel drive. You have more moving parts in the front
No it's normal on 2 wheels you can change it. It's front wheel drive all the time
I had always had my heart set on Army Green and it vanished from the lineup...went 2023 Taco Sport in Lunar Rock and LOVE the color! Glad I waited...
23 off road wheel bearing already went out. Back of driver seats squeaks kind of regretting getting one already only 19k miles on it
That's a bummer!
Hey Rob I have a 2021 and a squeaking in the Sterling oil is on the opposite side I put a double dump some tape under it and it works fine no more squeak
Hi Rob, the brake booster is a different type from your previous models, off road and pro models have crawl control systems which makes the pedal fell a bit different.
Might be a good idea to take it back and let the dealer take care of it. Make sure they don’t try and squeeze some money out of you, especially since new and under warranty. Still a great truck you have!
I have a heavy brake also. Rember you have a different master cylinder with the crawl control that might be the difference. Have dealership fix that steering wheel.
Hmm…maybe that’s it🤔
Tacoma is only 3 problems but my Gladiator is 100 problems and about to replacing transmission already after will trade for your Tacoma plus.
Ouch! That’s a bummer 😡
Hahaha funny you mentioned the steering wheel creaking on the bottom left hand side , yes my 2018 TRD OR did that as well but my 2021 TRD OR does not , I have 43k miles on her now she’s been flawless thank God 😅……
Black vinyl hood overlay would look good and remove glare. The brake issue deserves a service check. Steering wheel not a big deal, I'd roll a bit of electrical tape and push it in the seam, bet it solves the problem. When I bought my last Tacoma it had a squeak coming from the front bumper, got under it and push around found a couple spots where plastic was rubbing on metal. Had some of that rubber handy you use on the dash to keep items in place, cut it to fit stuffed it in place and no more squeak.
Hello Rob I got a slight solution on the glare I have a Barcelona red
The glare was cut in half by placing a dashboard covering no more glare from the big difference for the dashboard hope you like it try it no regrets
That squeak would drive me nuts! Yep. It would be back to the dealer in a heartbeat!
Man you had me run out to the garage to check my steering wheel
What’s the verdict?
@@RobMotive no movement on mine. I think you’re right, they didn’t attach it perfectly at the factory. I wouldn’t have thought much about things like that before watching your videos. Thank you, keep ‘em coming.
I can see the green reflecting in your glasses its so bright! Cool color really pops out! I would take it to the dealer to have it looked at !
Major, I noticed that too, all through this video!
Rob, I just checked my 2020 Tacoma Sport steering wheel and I have the same squeaky noise as well. Tho I never noticed until I watched this video. Thanks a lot now it’s going to bother me. Maybe it is a common problem. Look forward to your next video on how to repair!
Lol!! Sorry😂😂
I drove a sr5 for work and that one had the same squeaky issue. I think every Tacoma has that lol
Same thing on my 23 Tacoma. I took it back to the dealership and they refused to do anything about it. Said it’s allowed to have play in the parts and suggested that I was driving incorrectly because my hands shouldn’t be that low on the steering wheel. They said I could have a Toyota engineer look at it when they do their visit to the dealership and they can decide if it warrants them removing the plastic to see if there’s an issue. Needless to say, I have yet to hear back from them.
Wow😡
Did you ever take a look at your steering wheel yourself or take it to the dealership?
Looks like a pretty involved job to remove that piece. I’ve decided to I’ve with it for now😐
I have a 23 sport 4x4 with 3900 miles and the brakes are the same on mine as the way u describe yours. Kinda just think that's the way they are.
I have a 2022 SR5 built in 22 with same squeaking noise on the steering wheel. Everything else about the truck is the same excellent quality I've enjoyed with each of the six new Toyota trucks I've owned dating back to 1985. The little squeak is not an issue for me.
I like electric lime. I do hope toyota brings back Army green for the 4th gen.
RE The brake issue. If I step on the center of the brake pedal, the toe area of my right foot hits the metal "leg" of the brake pedal, above the pedal. This gives a lot less leverage than stepping on the rubber pedal. If I step more on the right half of the pedal, my foot does not hit the metal part. This is on a 23 Tacoma 4 cyl AT 2wd SR. BILL
Try moving your seat back a bit.
Just checked the steering wheel trim on my 2019.
And yup the right side trim is the same as yours. Seems to be an ongoing problem. 😂😂
Seems to be pretty common😑
Same problem with steering, dealer said wait longer to it gets worse. Problem is it was assemble in Mexico. I love the truck but to bad it was made in Mexico not the best quality control
Want to check my steering wheel now😅 everything seems solid so far in my 21 tacoma
My dealership would say sorry nothing we can do for ya
Many would I imagine 😡
Yes agree with the brakes to I have a 2023 trd off road
I have a 2022 trd sport and my steering wheel does the same exact thing at the same exact spot. Plz lmk when you find the cause. Thanks !
Nice video Rob but I’m actually surprised that you selected the Electric Lime. If I remember on the video when you got rid of the Voodoo Blue, you commented that it was such an attention grabber when you were out that it was a little unbecoming. So when you picked up this extreme color, I am surprised by your elation when you speak of your latest addition.
I am forever evolving 👍
@@RobMotive haha….nice!
On my pro Taco I have a matte black vinyl decal on the hood to cut the Arizona glare from factory.
Possible solutions to your issues. 1] glare off hood go for a hood decal you choose what you want (though one that said “JEEP” would raise eyebrows
2] squeak in steering wheel, 2 options a; take to dealer let them have it for a week or so see how it does b; pop the part and add a little caulk😅
3] brakes, hmm I’ve never had 2 vehicles that the brakes felt exactly the same in. If I get a brake job on a vehicle when I get back in it feels different.
I still like the color. Not as good as Gecko Green, but they are trying. Toyota doesn’t have a history of “out there” colors nice to see them branch out a little.
Now this may actually be a caulk job😂😂
Rob, 2020 Limited passenger seat back or arm rest making a small rattling noise when truck is cold. Can't figure out which one is making the noise. Adjusted back no change. Determined to find it. Quick fix turn on radio. LOL 😢
Lol! That solves many issues😂
My 21 does that. I just accustomed it to a plastic it fitting perfectly
That duck in the steering wheel sound would drive me bonkers 🤪
i have the same noise in my 2020. i just try not to grab there.
Well I had a 2022 Electric Lime Metallic TRD Pro and had the same issue with the steering wheel. I think that's kinda strange - I'm thinking they are many that have that issue. I had a black decal on my hood (all TRD Pro's do); and I never noticed any glare. Maybe you should get a decal too. I traded the truck in a for a TRD PRO 4Runner so I no longer have it. Never got the steering wheel fixed so I can't help you there. Good luck and let us know how you fixed the squeak.
Definitely First World problems, lol.
I noticed the brakes to...not the same as my 2006 for sure!
My steering wheel cover did the same thing. Drove me crazy. I put some E6000 rubber cement underneath. Solid now.
Thanks for the tip👍
Go with midnight black metallic when you get your 4th gen tacoma. Easier on the eyes!
Such a PITA to keep clean but a great color otherwise
Man I see the green glare in your glasses but it’s a beautiful truck!
Lol! It’s quite bright😎
Rob,take the truck back to the dealership, have them hear the squeaky steering wheel part plus your other concerns. I think that the part was installed a little to tight to the plastic part of the wheel no space or gap. Thus when you press it, it squeks.
I noticed the same thing on the brakes. I had a 2019 previously now I have a 2023. Also noticed the tailgate door handle feels cheaper.
Hadn’t noticed the handle🤔
Yup it is striking but I’m an OG and that is too wild for me.
I have a hard time getting the locking diff to engage. I’ve got about 200 miles on it. I tried to run it through the four-wheel-drive system. Everything worked. But the rear diff wouldn’t engage. I even tried all the tricks.
That’s a bummer. You may need service 🤔
@@RobMotive yeah I just called Toyota and told them I’m on my way. Not a good start.
Let us know what happens 🤔
@@RobMotive for sure
Take it to the dealership. Mine is 2 months out of the factory. Haven’t experienced what you’re describing.
Yup on my 22 TRD OR have the same squeak and they stick up a bit. Careful with a jacket or flannel shirt....kinda grabs on those plastic parts. First service next week and will bring it up at the dealer.
Let know what they say🤔
Take it back to dealership see how they treat you? Let them fix it
Agreed. The dealer wants to know about it.
I just checked my steering wheel and it definitely does not do that. Solid on both sides.
My brakes felt the same in my 21 and my 23 so I don’t notice anything out of the ordinary.
I chose Lunar Rock, because it pops, and yet is easy on the eyes.
You’re lucky!!!!👍
Warped rotors could be a problem my 4 runner had that
I had a high ranking employee of a dealer here where I live saying Tacomas built in Mexico have always had more problems. He also stated they’ve been getting a lot of engine leaked and failed valve train components. This is why I’ll keep my 2017 as was his advice also. My 2017 was built in Texas…
The engines are all built in Alabama.
@@93henfan Nope sorry
@@61espo Lol, there’s no “nope” about it. Your engine was made in the same factory that Rob’s was in Huntsville Alabama. Any issues a Mexican assembled Tacoma is prone to, yours will be too. Those are just the facts.
@@93henfan NOPE! keep dreaming man… the night shift in Alabama then must be sleeping when they’re putting them together. I know firsthand from a large dealership here in New York that more vehicles that are out of Mexico have more problems than the ones that were built in Texas and that includes the engines too… have fun!!
Same with my 23 on the steering wheel
No worries! The glare will grow on you, just like the color did. 😎😎😎
Lol! Probably so👍
My steering wheel is the same 2023 tacoma it annoys me also
Rob, I just landed myself an electric lime TRD off-road myself. I caught the glare yesterday, don't have the steering wheel or other issues. Maybe you go yell at the dealership. Good luck and thanks for the video.
Congrats 👍👍
My 2017 had a ticking sound coming from that panel of lights just at the top of the windshield. Sounded like a Geiger counter ticking out radiation readings at Chernobyl. Eventually traded it in for a 2020 and that was that ;)
3rd Taco And still the same thing with the steering wheel
Could they difference in braking distance be because your last truck wasn't 4wd? Not sure how much more a 4wd weighs vs. 2wd.
Nah…it’s in the pedal🤔
Just how you didn't like Electric Lime until you saw it in person, I'm sure seeing a Nacho Gladiator in person would change your mind about that color too 😊
Nope…I’ve seen them😬
My 2019 has that brake issue. Pressure and response is inconsistent. Toyota says normal. I have them document each time I service it. Supposedly VIN not included in previous brake booster recall. This along with numerous other unscheduled repairs and replacements and quality issues, I’ve had enough. It’s out of warranty. I don’t trust it. It’s getting the boot soon. Good luck with your 2023.
What are you replacing it with ?
I’ll continue to drive my 2007 Honda Civic Si sedan I’ve owned since new. I’ll assess all next generation midsize trucks when all are released, but never again with 3G Tacoma.
Sorry, I don't have these issues. I love the color you chose. I wish it had been an option for my trd sport. My wheel doesn't have that issue. It's tight and firm. The brakes on mine feel great. What I have heard from Toyota mechanics have convinced me to stay away from aftermarket tunes and the pedal commander, which they tell me are a leading reason for tacomas needing to be towed into the shop. Otherwise I love your videos and am an avid fan. Keep it up😊.
Dave
Why is tunes and pedal commander issues with mechanics?
I have a 2020 TRD off road, bought brand new I’ve put around 56k on it and at about 48k my blind spot monitoring quit working. Haven’t taken it in yet but maybe I should.
Out of warranty now😑
Hello! I have an off road 2021 military green with the same issues on the steering wheel plastics, same side. I think that Mexican models have that issue. Otherwise no problems.
Agree about brakes
That was the color I request allocation sold for my 2022 access cab. M/t , but never got it go figure toyota but you are right the Toyota quality is gone down a little bit in the last couple of years
My brakes are the exact same way on my 23 off road.
Learn to be a tuner. Very easy to tune your self. U like the OVtune. Its like a OEM plus tune. Not crazy aggressive like the ones that are more pop5
I had a Tacoma Sport for 2 days. Couldn’t adapt myself to that transmission. If I had to slow down then hit the gas light it jerks. Its like the truck doesnt know how to handle it in many occasions like for example driving up a slightly steep bridge. Than I had to disproportionately accelerate the car to go up. Does that occurs with yours? After a test drive with the 2024 I traded in the car.
Haven’t noticed anything like that. However, it’s pretty flat where I live.
@@RobMotivejust to double check. You have never had problems with the way the transmission behave like the hesitation when accelerating for example?
Haven’t noticed anything like that. However, it’s pretty flat where I live.
My steering wheel plastic stretched my hand when I turn. I took it to Toyota and they said it was not bad enough to fix and I had plenty of warranty and if it got worse to bring it back. I just bought the truck and noticed it about two weeks after I bought it
I have the exact same noise with my steering wheel but on both sides and with the brakes I get an initial pop when applying the brakes I had an 18 that didn’t have these issues. Mine is a 22 sr5 I’m thinking quality control isn’t what it used to be.
I have the same problem same spot my is 2017 (steering)
Hey Rob, first and foremost, I wish you and your family a happy Easter Sunday. 2nd off all, what trim level is your 23?
Happy Easter to you and yours. It’s an OffRoad.
Same steering wheel issue on my 2023 TRD Sport. It’s going to dealer in a week or so for first appointment so I’ll mention it. My brakes are fine.
Please let us know what they say🤔
Ok. Forgot to mention the steering wheel issue when I took the Taco to dealer Wednesday. But, the noise is not as obvious now. Maybe they did something to fix it. Will see how it goes.
Hi Rob. I have a 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport (Army Green). I never noticed the squeaky steering wheel plastic. I went out and checked mine and it does the same thing. Maybe not as bad. Very strange. Thanks for pointing it out.
Sorry to make you aware! 😬
Ah yes i gotta that squeaky wheel too
Come on Rob, consider it as a confirmation that they used natural leather, it usually creeks just like new shoes, drop a few drops of oil in the crack on the right side of plastic maybe it stops,😊
Take it back and let them address the issues as vehicles today are so over priced get your moneys worth. Don't second guess the brakes take it back and have it checked just so you have a record of the complaint in case there may be a problem down the road.
I have a 2022 Tacoma off road, I have the same problems with the brakes having to push hard on them also to break
I wonder what it is🤔
The only problem I find bring my truck in to dealership is that there is always a chance they make something worse or break, scratch, dent my truck. If I can do it myself I usually do.
Exactly. If it’s an easy fix, just do it yourself and save the risk 👍
Yeah....my OR had same squeaky steering wheel sound. Annoying as hell, but easy to fix on your own by lifting up plastic and sliding a small piece of double sided foam tape in there
My 2021 Toyota Tacoma Tr D offer road. Does the? Same. Thing with my brakes it feels sluggish like you need to put more pressure and you're just it. Does doesn't want to stop right? I'm curious myself it just upgrading my rear drum breaks to disk will fix that.
I have bought a 2012 TRD sport 110,000 miles just bought its do you have any tips for that year I'm trying to figure out how Trac control and LSD 4wd work among other things
Steering wheel noise, WD 40 or Duct Tape , those two things are my go to’s fix anything
Lol 😂
Lol! I may have to resort to that😬
I have a 19. Doesn’t have that but some noise on the left door Speaker This truks are not like before
i have the exact same vehicle, color and i have the exact same steering wheel issue
Bummer😡
Rrrrrrrrrobertrrrrtoooo... I think your fourth issue is... You didn't get a manual 😱😱😱
Lol! But I have one in my Honda😁
@@RobMotive well... At least you haven't gotten rid of the fun driving altogether 😂👍🏽
Maybe you could flat black the hood, like an old muscle car.
I have a 21 TRDPro and my steering wheel does the same thing
The sad thing about Tacomas they're all made in Mexico there will be some issues unless you're lucky
They were going to build a factory here in Temple Texas a few years ago but opted to put it in mexico, for cheaper labor,so I’m a bit upset with them.
I noticed breaking in the 23 when I test drove last week
