    "Why bother upgrading this old PC?" Man dont listen to them. I had to move out immediately upon turning 18 and my PC for the next few years until I was more financially stable was an all in one with integrated graphics and an i5-2500. Running any game from the last 10 years on even Medium settings is an amazing jump for some people. Thank you for posting ❤

    Great instructional video on removing the drone cage.
    It's worth mentioning any issues that might arise from propriety components, particularly if you replace the power supply .
    Some Dell and lots of HP's don't use the standard connectors used by off the shelf powersupplies however this can normally be overcome with cheap adapters. HP can be particularly annoying like in later PCs (6th gen and later) it has a sensor that gives an annoying message before booting that you have to press F1 on to continue of the front usb3 is not connected. Because of using one of the pins on the socket as the sensor you can't round this by using an adapter from the front I/o to a pcie card. Always worth watching a video like yours on the particular model of Dell/HP/Lenovo that a person wants to upgrade.

    Nice tutorial! I was originally going to do this in my Dell Precision T1600 case but I decided, for now anyway, to just purchase a ePCI riser cable, 3D print out a stand, and mount my RX 580 outside of the case. The only problem I have is I am afraid of my curious kitty playing with the GPU fans! I already caught her playing with the CPU fan once as I heard a "brrr...brrr!" sound and saw her hitting the fan with her paw! Lol!! It was very funny at the time, but the GPU fans are MUCH bigger and faster and may hurt her. I may have to go back to your idea here, but I may have a problem with the SATA ports being blocked. I already have that problem with the old HD 7770 card I put in there for now. I had to disconnect the DVD player. Not a big deal since I have several USB portable ones. Your video makes me want to give it another try when (and if 😕) my health ever improves.
    Looking forward to your next video. Be well and Happy Holidays!!! 👍👍

      @arthurmann578 Год назад +1

      @@kennyskomputers1009 I actually tried the 90 degree ones and still no go with the DVD port and the HD 7770. It worked for the SSD and the storage hard disk ports. It was just a tiny fraction too high for the DVD port as it was directly under the GPU.

    • @mixplit9071
      @mixplit9071 10 месяцев назад +1

      Yea the 90 degree sata cables avoid that issue, but if your card is too long & wide like the 980 ti I was planning to use, it also runs into the front usb plug on the 710 mobo. Damn near broke it before I noticed it was catching. Had to settle for using an old radeon r5 2gb card I had laying around until I can buy something better that is short enough to fit.

    I dunno if I'd go through all of that effort to put a 3070 in an old optiplex like that. You'd be better off getting a Dell XPS system with a 6th or 7th gen CPU, DDR4 RAM support and you don't have to pull metal drive cages out. On top of that, you need a 25-pin to 8-pin power supply cable for Dell's proprietary 8-pin connector for any aftermarket power supply becase 280W is not enough for any RTX 3000 series card.

    • @GTORazor

      I got a free 3050 Optiplex and have a sweet gaming rig now after throwing an SFX PSU with the adapter you mentioned, in it to power the RTX3060 Dual fan I got for it. The 7th gen i7-7700 is rocking every game i throw at it and I didn't have to spend all that much to get it up to gaming specs. The older Optiplexes like his will still do gaming as long as you pay attention to CPU and GPU utilization to avoid bottlenecks.

    • @pjasonq
      @pjasonq 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@GTORazor that's awesome. The RTX 3060 is one of the most popular cards right now because it has the best price/performance. The i7-7700 should still provide solid performance for most games. Just make sure there's ample air flow going through the front and back of the case and the i7 has a good heat sink.

    • @GTORazor
      @GTORazor 9 месяцев назад

      @@pjasonq It does, I added a Coolermaster Copper core i70C, I get solid 60fps in everything and if I can unlock the vertical sync in the game, it goes in the hundreds of fps. Technically you don't have to remove the motherboard to remove the drive cage. You can drill it out with the motherboard in and then blow the case out with a can of air or shopvac.

    • @kennyskomputers1009
      @kennyskomputers1009  Год назад +5

      Yes, you don't have to remove the board. But having it removed from the system can prevent aluminum shards from sticking to the motherboard, causing a short. Plus it can make it harder to safely cut the bay out without causing damage.

      Very late reply, but you don't need to drill out those last rivets on the front of the case. If you have an awl or a heavy duty icepick & hammer. You can push the awl or icepick into the rivets & then rotate in circular movements for a bit to widen the holes & the rivets just fall out. And the others he drilled out can all be knocked loose with a hammer and a long flathead screwdriver. Takes a bit of muscling, but no power tools at all.

      I don’t have those 2 things on hand as of now. But the 7040 case cannot fit the psu needed so it you cannot install any gpu that needs external power into the system.

      ¡Sí! debería funcionar sin problemas. sólo tienes que asegurarte de tener una fuente de alimentación que tenga suficiente potencia y los cables adecuados para conectarla a la gpu y alimentarla bien. ¡Espero que esto ayude! y estoy usando un traductor, así que perdónenme si esto es difícil de entender.

    • @rockrecordreport7136
      @rockrecordreport7136 Год назад

      @@kennyskomputers1009 Why are you being evasive about those cables that have blocked ports by the GPU? While others are commenting favorably about this video, I can't get over the fact that you just stated (only when asked btw) that you used one 90s degree cable. When actually for this model there should be another SATA cable involved, plus the USB and power I/O cable to deal with. That cable MUST be connected, yet you've glossed over it. There are "lateral" 90 degree SATAs (recommended), and a USB front panel extension cable that can be 90 degree down (to the right). I think you have an obligation to explain this, or else you are sending people on a bum steer.
