I’ve never thought a cooking tutorial could make me cry... but it did! I was an exchange student and my Hungarian mother and grandma used to cooked this a lot, while baking this i could only remember those happy times! thank you so much 😊
I'm so happy I've found your channel!! I haven't had a good Hungarian dish since my dad passed 5yrs ago now I can make some myself. He was born and raised in Budapest & came to the states in 1978.
I'm glad you like my channel! I hope you'll cook some great Hungarian dishes! Just drop me a line if you have any question regarding these recipes! :)

We also have several versions of this, such as cocoa. It can be hazelnuts, raisins, blueberries. - etc.- The point is, the rice should be well prepared. (Then add the yellow cream and then the foam.) It's also definitely very delicious! Clever! There is also a lot of very delicious Hungarian food and sweets. I recommend the videos of "Mészi főz", Marcsi Borbás, György Hargitai, Szilvi Szécsi!
Today you almost made me cry with joy. I have been looking for this recipe for many years. My grandmother, who came from Western Romania, about 5 miles from the Hungarian border, used to make it for me when I was little. No one in the family here had the recipe, I didn't know the name, and had only my memories of watching her make it as a child. I can not wait to make it!!!
Thank you for your kind comment! I'm glad you found my channel with this recipe you were searching for. I hope you will like it - please let me know after you made it!

Magyar videócsatornákon is ott van! It is also there on Hungarian video channels!
I just randomly came across this video scrolling through RUclips. I love rice pudding, the word Hungarian caught me as I am an American Hungarian-Slovak Gypsy, and your channel has the word Paprikash in it...I'm taken,...you got me as a subscriber automatically lol
I love rice pudding cake. I have made the Italian way for years at Easter time. We make exactly the same but stir in a small can of drained crushed pineapple.
My mom made this in Hungary and still makes this in Canada with julienne-cut candied orange peel in it. She makes it herself: washes the peels, lets them dry, cuts them into julienne, lays them on a baking sheet with regular sugar on it, rolls them around to coat them, leaves them for a day, then she bottles them in mason jars and pour sugar over them. It’s a great substitute for raisins in anything when you don’t like raisins (I don’t).
I'm English and my partner is Hungarian, glad I can make these for him now and also very glad my little boy can experience the food my partner grew up on 💙💙
Are you sure you haven't been peeking at my Grandma's recipes?? She made this cake but used orange zest. Mom made it, and now i make it. Watching you cut that and putting it on the plate i could almost taste. Great recipe from old old Budapest... I think you really know your stuff!

Thanks so much for this recipe, one which I so enjoyed when my mother made it. I remember that she would add raisins into it as well. Your videos are always well presented and you make it look so easy! I’m looking forward to what you come up with next.
Many thanks for your kind words! Yes, raisins can be added but I prefer without it (sometimes it doesn't come out as light and fluffy with the raisins as without them...) For the next video I'm thinking about a "főzelék" - do you know those vegetable Hungarian dishes?
Kitchen Paprikash yes, growing up my mother would make a fozelek from squash (which I wasn’t overly fond of) and she would prepare a pork stew over it. I think it’s called “tok fozelek.” Also a fozelek from spinach... those are the two I recall having most often.
Thank you so much. I remember watching my mom make this and we will drive to a European deli store to buy raspberry syrup for this dessert. Can’t wait to make it for my kids :)
Such a beautiful & delicious looking mixture @ 2:50 and I really believe you could serve it just like it was with all the ingredients mixed together w/o even baking it and it would be just as delicious as the baked & final step. I may even try it w/o baking too...
You're right, it's delicious without baking (I always taste it before putting it to the oven) If you don't mind eating raw eggs (I don't) it's worth a try :)
My ant used to make this and I loved it. I haven't had this in 40 years I may have to try your way. Yummy. Ez az egyik kedvencem, amit a Mariska neni sutott. Koszi, h felraktad !
Thank you, Zsuzsi! You should try it - it's really easy to make, and soooo good :) (én mindig málnaszörppel eszem, de lehet baracklekvárral is :)) Köszi a kommentért :)
Both of my grandmothers who emigrated to the US from Hungary and Austria made rice cake all the time, it's my favorite, but their recipe was very simple and tastes so delicious. 1qt milk, 1cup rice, 1/4 cup butter, abt 1 cup sugar to taste, 3 eggs, 1/4 tsp baking powder and salt to taste (little bit in rice). You could add raisins if you'd like, I like to put cinnamon on mine. Add the butter to the rice while still warm , when cool, beat eggs and add them, the sugar & baking powder. Bake at 350 for 1hr. It's so easy I have it memorized! I'm still going to try this recipe though, and if I like it, it will go in my box! 🙂
Awesome! Thanks so much! I often tried making this myself, just a made up version, with wildly varying success, although it was always edible. SO happy to have a real recipe for it! I saw your comment about the raisins. You may be interested in trying it with dried currants. They are tiny and quite dry and have a really pleasant, slightly tangy, flavor. Many thanks for your wonderful videos!
My mom used to make it very often when I was a kid, I'm not sure if it matches 100% with yours when it comes to the ingredients but I'm sure they're both delicious, greetings from Romania:)
Great recipe, I’ve never seen or heard of a rice pudding cake but anything with rice, especially rice pudding, is fine with my taste buds. I cannot wait to try this one. Exactly what’s the name & brand is the pot (I love it).
I'm happy you like this recipe! The pot has no brand/name, I've bought it in a Hungarian market. These type of enamel pots are commonly used in Hungary, but I'm not sure if those are available worldwide. Sometimes I've seen some similar pots on etsy.com
Ok thank you so much for answering and answering with such a speedy response. It’s just like the very heavy and expensive French Dutch ovens I own but I just love the beautiful Orange it is and the inside print is just beautiful, I absolutely love it.
Thank you very much for this recipe. This rizskoch looks exactly like what I remember my mother frequently making during my childhood and I will definitely try making it myself. She always served it with a sauce made with red wine, I believe she called it "bor sato" or something like that. Do you have a recipe for that kind of sauce?
Many thanks for your kind comment, I'm glad you like this recipe. I know the sauce you mentioned, it's called "borsodó", but it's made with white wine, not red, and it's similar to vanilla custard. Unfortunately I don't have a recipe for that, but it's originally a French sweet sauce called "Wine Chaudeau", so maybe you can find a recipe on the web.
@@kitchenpaprikash3888Thank you for the reply and the very helpful info. I found a few references to "wine chadeau" recipes (using both red and white wines) but they did seem to be more custards than sauces. However, I found quite a few different Hungarian recipes for "borsodó" (made only with white wine) that appear to be an actual sauce/topping. I will experiment with some of them using red wine to see if I can create something similar to what I remember. Although I am very far from being an accomplished cook, your channel has often enabled me to once again experience dishes that are almost exactly what I remember my mother cooking. Thank you.
Thank you, Peter! Please, let me know when you made the "borsodó" (the version you liked with red wine). I'm curious about that :D I"m glad that my recipes help you with Hungarian cooking!
Thank you! Yes, you can eat it cold too /but I prefer it warm, or at least room temperature :)) - the leftover from the fridge can be reheated in the microwave/
The written recipe is in the description, below the video. (Unfortunately I don't have a website with printable recipes (yet.) Just planning to make it) Thanks for your comment!
Thank you, I'm glad you like this recipe. Yes, it can be stored in a fridge for 2-3 days, and yes, it's very good if served room temperature or cold too. (sometimes I don't care reheating the leftovers - we just eat it cold, right from the fridge :))
I've never tried it, but I think it is a good idea. The breadcrumbs don't add any flavor, just soak some liquid and prevent the cake sticking to the pan. The crumbled biscuits would do the same and maybe it'd be more delicious with it. Worth a try!
Revani : İt is made with semolina. After the cake comes out of the oven, water and sugar are boiled and sherbet is poured on it... Coconut grater on finishing touch....
I've used short-grain rice (I mentioned in the recipe in the description box). In Hungarian recipes we don't use jasmin, basmati, sushi or other rice, just short- or long-grain rice. And in Hungary there is rice in the stores which is just Rice ("rizs" in Hungarian), no specification at all :D
So not really being a sweet eater particularly I saw this recipe and I decided after watching the video I have to save this and try it at some point in time so I named the file "oh my god I've got to try this" just so you know
