I'm glad I was a teenager when I was introduced to that album. I feel privileged I grew up listening to it. I can't even say how many times I have played the album and that song. One of those rare albums you can play from first to last song and all are epic. Thanks DT
That solo section... all improv... yup! this is probably my favorite Dream theater live show on dvd. bought it the day it came out. I have watched it over 500 times. even did a college paper on how people earn the right to be gold gods. lol True story. My Professor loved it.
Can I read your college paper? Haha, I'm so intrigued! I remember writing about the first time I happened to stumble upon Dream Theater (on a friend's borrowed MP3 player back in the day) for a writing test in college many years ago. The night that changed my life for the better. :'D
They found each other starting from a young age. It's insane. So the guitarist (John Petrucci) and bassist (John Myung)knew each other as kids. They both end up going to The Berkeley School and they met the drummer (Mike Portnoy) there. Insane. The current original members are only John and John.
Love y’all’s reactions. Dream Theater is my favorite band and I have been listening to them almost 30 years . Taking my son to see them live next week. Cannot wait. They are on their own level.
They r Gods of music🙏🏽💜💜. If you guys havent reacted to “”DREAM THEATER -Hallow Years Live at Budokan””( from the same concert with this song) , you should absolutely do it! You would love it i believe! 💜
Petrucci letting out a bit of his love for Vai here is so wholesome. He does several Vai techniques and little homages and they’re both phenomenal players obviously. They’ve played and toured together as well. He also includes a few more players too but I noticed those little nods as soon as I saw them originally
You think this is mind blowing, they used to do something called Nightmare Cinema where everyone traded instruments. The bassist played keys, the drummer played bass, the guitarist played drums and keyboardist played guitar. And still sounded great.
The Three founding members, Mike Portnoy, John Myung, and John Petrucci all met at Berklee. John Myung and John Petrucci were childhood friends, and their original keyboard player Kevin Moore was also their childhood buddy. Watch the Score 20th anniversary documentary, it covers pretty much most of their biography.
I love watching ur reactions to dream theater videos its funny because everyone who watches their live reactions have the same look of awe on them, how can u not
The best Beyond This Life version ever (Budokan 2004) That's what happens when you put together Berkeley and Juilliard 🔥🔥🔥🔥👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I miss Portnoy in DT. Thank you guys!!!!!
They found each other at Berklee school of music, exceot for Jordan Rudess (keyboards). He is (roughly) their 3rd keyboard player. They also have another drummer now than Mike Portnoy, who was an original member. Some of the drummer auditions they held are posted on RUclips. Their current drummer, Mike Mangini, once held the Guinness record for fastest drummer in the world.
Guitarist John Petrucci, was childhood friends with original keyboardist Kevin Moore and bassist John Myung. Petrucci and Myung met original drummer (the one in this video) Mike Portnoy at Berklee College in Boston.
That concert at Budokan was awesome, great reaction guys, love ya from a Chilean in New Zealand trying to survive from the fkn nwo, Dream theater is like El Bosco or Goya (Painting), like Kennedy or J Assange, they are trying to wake up the ppl, as you said.... there are a matrix ;) IDK if your band name have something of this too, or just coincidence, anyway, i saw almost all of your videos guys, you are awesome
This is Jim from Kansas. I did go to a storm chaser meeting when I was a teenager. I didn’t go chase any storms though. When a tornado siren goes off, I do what most Kansans do, I go outside to see if I can see the tornado.
This album, Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From A Memory, was my introduction to Dream Theater. This in my opinion is not only their best album but best creative period as we got 2 side project Liquid Tension Experiment albums around this time too. Also have to add before I even saw him I KNEW it was Mike Portnoy on drums. Nothing against Mike Mangini but Portnoy just can't be replicated to an exact degree. Edit: Meant to add this part but forgot. Dream Theater almost made me quit. Almost. The band that was successful in doing that was Planet X. Planet X is my proof that advanced aliens from another planet are among us disguised as humans.
"and when these two coils become active, i go straight into killzone mode. The people just die, they just drop on the floor. It's pretty amazing to see. My PA is amazing too. This one controls how hot the sun is. When i go on stage, i play a lot slower about 10.000 notes per second. When i go into world domination mode i can play 4 billion notes per second. My strings are custom made strings, they can resist temperatures of the sun, so they won't melt. Yeah ..so that's pretty much it, i'm out, you're shit". - Adam02
I love your reaction videos and I would love to see you reacting to Metellica's song "DYERS EVE", which in my opinion is their best song, a hug and success to you.
That's why Portnoy is the best, i mean Mangini is great, but is not the same vibe or energy during the songs. I just love how Portnoy interacts with the audience and the other members.
Scene From Memory is one of the best progressive rock metal album of all time 🤟.
Fact
You are correct sir.
@@Conkee1711 thank you
You mispelled "is THE BEST album of all time... PERIOD"
it´s the best album of all time....any genre.
Awesome!!! The studio version is crazy but live they're UNBELIEVABLE....and you are sooooo funny!
This is why they are on a top level of Prog genre.. God level
Fantastic song, fantastic show, fantastic band!!!!!
You can tell that the entire band has a blast playing this song.
I'm glad I was a teenager when I was introduced to that album. I feel privileged I grew up listening to it. I can't even say how many times I have played the album and that song. One of those rare albums you can play from first to last song and all are epic. Thanks DT

Tho James is basically an original member,
@@ejRecording technically, no. Basically, yes.
They found each other at Berklee. John, Mike and John (guitar, drums, bass) were the only rockers. Jordan (keys) is from Julliard.
They are music nerds lol
And James LaBrie is from CANADA that says it all!
John and John were already friends in middle school.
Love y’all’s reactions. Dream Theater is my favorite band and I have been listening to them almost 30 years . Taking my son to see them live next week. Cannot wait. They are on their own level.
They r Gods of music🙏🏽💜💜.

Yeeaahh bahkan live hollow years at budhokan lebih sempurna dari pada versi album studio nya.begitu emosional
Bravissimi..brano fantastico..Mike faceva e fa sognare, come ricordo, Mangini è altrettanto bravo.
Ohhh snap!! Did the live version with the improv section!!!
I used to listen to this all the time years back…….great medley!
John Petrucci and Joe Satriani….best guitar players for this type of music!
Steve Vai has entered the chat…
Petrucci letting out a bit of his love for Vai here is so wholesome. He does several Vai techniques and little homages and they’re both phenomenal players obviously. They’ve played and toured together as well. He also includes a few more players too but I noticed those little nods as soon as I saw them originally

Live at Budokan is my favorite of all their live albums.

Well, your dream came true after all. 🥁
This is from one of the best Concept albums I have heard.
Sort of. Petucci and Myung have been friends since middle school. They met Portnoy at Berklee.
Mangini taught at Berklee and Jordan studied at Julliard
This type of music requires a higher level of intellect to appreciate.
They are godly. Loved your reaction
12:41 to 22:12 was all improvised and not in the original song
I think they sent James for pizza and were filling till he got back
Close encounters of the third kind
Wow and wow dream theater master of music.. please dream theater again sir
Next dream theater in the name of God live
This album is meant to be listened to in it's entirety. Saw them live at the Warfield in SF many years ago.
Great reaccion...
Dream theater such a Gr8 band...
Guitarist John Petrucci, was childhood friends with original keyboardist Kevin Moore and bassist John Myung. Petrucci and Myung met original drummer (the one in this video) Mike Portnoy at Berklee College in Boston.
Hollow Years, the next song in that concert, is a change of pace track, but so, so good. It may contain Petrucci’s best live solo.
The next song on that concert is also one of their great and awesome live performance. Try to watch it. Hollow years by dream theater live at budokan
That concert at Budokan was awesome, great reaction guys, love ya from a Chilean in New Zealand trying to survive from the fkn nwo, Dream theater is like El Bosco or Goya (Painting), like Kennedy or J Assange, they are trying to wake up the ppl, as you said.... there are a matrix ;)

Yes! One of my all time favs! Love you guys!
...and on drums the mighty Mike Portnoy.
"There were literally bananas everywhere" pretty much sums this song up.
Best in the business. Period the end.
Great reaction guys. I have seen this video multiple times and NEVER get tired of it. If the Super Friends put together a rock band....... yeah.
The bassist and guitarist have known each other since they were in middle school. All they know is each other and music.
NO ONE COMES CLOSE!!!
The kings of prog metal
Damn she is so cool haha
This is Jim from Kansas. I did go to a storm chaser meeting when I was a teenager. I didn’t go chase any storms though. When a tornado siren goes off, I do what most Kansans do, I go outside to see if I can see the tornado.
Love portnoy ❤❤

trippy music but amazing too
The Matrix? I spit my coffee out...🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wow...realized I hadn't seen Petrucci in his pre-beefy/beardy days in a long time!
That is how Liquid Tension Experiment were born.
"and when these two coils become active, i go straight into killzone mode. The people just die, they just drop on the floor. It's pretty amazing to see. My PA is amazing too. Very frank zappa vibes going in this song
They found each other in Berklee College of Music 😂
I love your reaction videos and I would love to see you reacting to Metellica's song "DYERS EVE", which in my opinion is their best song, a hug and success to you.

They are amazing! BUT the colab solo sounds out of tune by alot
Drunks react

Que gran banda es Dream Theater y que pésimo cantante James Le Braie. Es su punto bajo. Con otro vocalista serían aun mejores.
Gosh... You guys don't have any idea of what a difference Mike Portnoy used to make in that band. Is like night and day.
