Greatest band in the world. Every member is one of the best, if not the best, at their instrument in all of rock. They can play anything, and their knowledge of music theory is unrivaled in the rock arena. Their weakest link is the singer, who used to be incredible, but injured his voice a decade or more ago. He's gotten better live more recently, but he's still not what he used to be. Not that he's actually bad.
Yep the vocalist does not really fit the great musicians. The band itself is great and maybe unchallenged in this music genre, but saying its the greatest band in the world is surely your personal opinion and it´s ok. There are other great bands in this world and do milestones in music too.
There was a special kind of magic in the air that night. The orchestra and choir are from the Berklee school of music. Just imagine how special it would have been for these people. A LEGENDARY band birthed from their own school that they've heard about for years, and now they get a chance to play with them. A once-in-a-lifetime experience for sure.
I second that choice. A reaction in parts to Scenes from a Memory would be cool with this couple. Talking about minds being blown away. DT, great musicians, ever better personalities. A step above all the rest
Makes me so happy to see someone's first Dream Theater experience; and even moreso, seeing those who pay enough attention to appreciate the difficulty, and imagination that they deliver. Kudos! As an FYI, every orchestra member, choir and conductor (Eren Basbug) were all students at Berkeley College of Music.
What made this show neat is that the founding members of Dream Theater all went to Berkeley College of Music in Boston and when they did the show they had the entire Performing Arts majors for the orchestra chorus perform with them from that same school that they went to and performed there at the school
They are awesome live. Seen them many times. Usually, epic, long sets but I have seen them with support too. At one concert here in the UK, they played for 3 hours. Then, came back for the encore and said 'we'll do two more songs only'. The first song was 16 minutes long and the second was 23 minutes long. So, altogether they had played for nearly four hours. Incredible.
12:20 My Eyes becomes Watery whenever i listen to that part its realy sadly beautiful world we live in well im 23 years old i shouldnt cry but yea dont know why my eyes gets wet everytime
Every member is the absolute best and master of their instrument they are the top of the top. I am so glad you have entered the world of DT. The drummer Mike Mangini is my inspiration along with Neil Peart. Next listen to the Count of Tuscany or if you really want to see them shine on their instruments live watch Dance of Eternity Live. Everyone gets to shine except the vocalist because its an instrumental lol.
This was by far my favorite DT reaction I've ever seen. It's because you aren't turned off by the fact that it's different, and you appreciate the quality of musicianship. When I first heard this song, I'd been playing guitar 20 years. I can't touch this stuff. Your reactions at some of the guitar playing were the same as mine. I would recommend you check out "Take the Time" by DT next. Lots of changes, and really shows the abilities of the musicians. Well done, glad you both enjoyed this!
Hands down on of their greatest compositions to date. A song like this shows why they have been one of my 2 most fav bands since the very first time I heard them. Masters.
Best band no one has ever heard of. I think they are bigger out of country than here. They are considered the best prog band for at least 20 years now. They have been around since 1988 and release an album about every 2 years. And while this is one of their more complicated pieces most of their songs are as or near as complicated as this one. The Guitar player, bassist and original drummer, who is not the guy you just saw, are all from Long Island. This drummer is probably a little better than the original drummer but I like the songs overall better with the original drummer because he had A LOT of input into the songs and he and the guitar player were the driving force behind the band. The really cool thing about them is they do ballads really well too. But it's funny, their ballads are heavier and faster than most other groups metal songs. LOL.
9:06 "That guy" is John Fucking Petrucci! ;) (joking) Awesome band and even better in person ... each member (except the singer) is mentioned in "the best of" conversation at their instrument. Go see them if you ever get the chance! The conducter, orchestra and choir were Berklee College students and the conductor helped write the orchestral section.
The greatest band in the world and all of time ! Dream Theater is not just have superb musicallity skill, but, they have great emotions, feel, and soul. Next, *Dream Theater - Breaking All Illusion (Live Boston Opera House)* it will blow your mind, totally masterpiece !!!
I love this song and your reaction. Dream theater are a phenomenal band I could listen to them all day. If you are looking for more to check out, I think they have over 30 years of great songs.
They’ve been around since the mid 80’s and I’ve been a fan since 92. They play progressive rock/ progressive metal .. they are from Long Island, NY except for the singer who is from Toronto. John Petrucci is the guitarist and he plays his own line of instruments from Music Man guitars. The bassist plays a six string fret less bass, also from music man. Their music has a ton of odd signature time changes. And they have a lot of long songs with instrumental passages in the middle or end. They are my favorite band because they give me everything I want in a song. If you want to check out and instrumental only side project they have check out Liquid Tension Experiment.
A band full of musical geniuses. Just brilliant top of the class musicians since '89. There is so many songs to discover... Heavy: This Dying Soul (live at Budokan) Epic: Octavarium (live Score) - their greatest masterpiece, really an experience on it's own. A mix of everything: Trial of Tears (live at Budokan), Breaking All Illusions (live at Boston opera house) The Ministry of Lost Souls (live Chaos in Motion) Mellow/ballad: The Spirit Carries On (live Score) Instrumental: Stream of Consciousness (live at Budokan) and so so many more. These guys are just beyond amazing live, I will never forget my first concert - next level good.
The hard part about watching Dream Theater as a musician is that no matter what genre you play you have say, "Damn, I need to try harder." No videogames for me tonight
I have a handful of favorite concert moments, video or in person - Billy Gibbons breaking out "Miss Pearly Gates" Les Paul to play Just Got Paid in '91, Tony Iommi giving the horns sign during "CHildren of the Sea" solo in '09, Alex Lifeson on one knee playing "Red Barchetta" on Exit Stage Left, Floor Jansen hitting "the note" during "Ghost, Love, Score" from Wacken '13, and the choir in this concert sort of head banging during the instrumental of "Illumination Theory." Great stuff! Thanks for this video, Wolf Hunterz!!
Hi there, so happy to see you discover DT :) Basicaly as you saw, some of the best musicians on the planet obviously. Style is prog so their music can include so very complex and intricate time signatures of course. But Dt's discography is so various and vast that you will for sure find great stuff that you will love. They are particuarly well known for their long masterpieces like this one. The other major ones (to see Live from Boston, Score, Budokan, Live from New york or Luna Park) are : - Octavarium - A nightmare to remember - The count of tuscany - breaking all illusions - In the name of god - the ministry of lost souls - a change of seasons - In the presence of ennemies part I and II - The glass prison - learning to live Other fan favourites : - the mirror - fatal tragedy - metropoplis part I more easy listening singles : - the ennemy inside - take the time - pull me under - as I am - solitary shell - the gift of music - another day their greatest slow : - the spirit carries on great instrumentals : - the dance of eternity (live Boston) - Instrumedley (live budokan) - stream of counsciousness - Ytsejam - hell's kitchen Concept albums to be listened entirely : - scenes from a memory - 6 degrees of Turbulence (disk 2) - The astonishing Cheers from Paris :)
this makes me shiver every time I hear and see it. in the same class as:- And you and I, Gates of delerium, Echoes , the hamburger concerto and Xanadu... an absolute epic.
More people must learn to hear music like this and not bullshit...this is a pro level Right here with real players that can actually play their instruments! This is whole another level !!
This is some next level stuff and not for casual listening. Its actually takes some time to absorb these songs even for fans like me a fan since 1994. These people saved prog.
Yeah, one of if not my favorite band. One really cool note is that the choir and the orchestra are from the Berkeley school of music in of course Boston. That's where the band all went to school at and actually met each other there. Mike Portnoy was the original drummer in the band and a founding member with John Petrucci the guitar player. Mike Mangini is the Drummer now. Can't say enough about this band!!!! Huge catalog of music....😎
That was one of the best Dream Theater reactions I've ever seen. Your smiles and admiration for who I consider to be the greatest band ever was appreciated. Breaking All Illusions or The Shattered Fortress from the same DVD would be great choices for a follow up reaction. You've gained a new fan. Peace.
Love your guys reactions to Dream Theater, they are all insanely talented and a real joy to watch, all of their live shows are so incredible and every song and instrumentals are all EPIC!!!🔥🔥🔥🤘🏼😎🤘🏼🇳🇿
Dream Theater is the most talented band ever ...its like band of Olympus.. they are GODS.. loved your reaction you guys are amazing as well.. You can try DREAM THEATER- HOLLOW YEARS live in BUDOKAN for the next.. i bet you would like it .. keep rocking 🤘🏽
I just discovered DT 4 years ago..Looking for more metal and found my home in music! What a ride! 14 studio albums, several live and nothing sounds alike, but it all sounds like Dream Theater!. Like a poster below, the entirety of Scenes from a Memory (concept album) will rock your socks, then have you weep, and then...the surprise end! I have met the band several times, they are The nicest guys....
F.Y.I the entire library of work is fantastic, but nothing like live performances......Octavarium live will blow your fricking minds.......love seeing peoples first reactions to one of my favorite bands
"That guy"??? You do realise you are talking about God there right? Sir John Petrucci lol. Awesome vid guys, I love watching people react to stuff like this!

Can't believe you just discovered Dream Theater... I checked your reaction list and yes, this is your first reaction to Dream Theater... They're the best musicians in the scene. Period. If you want to check at one of their best, please review Metropolis pt 2: Scenes from a Memory ... it's an incredible theme album, and one of the best pieces of prog rock ever! The guitarrist, John Petrucci is for me if not the best, one of the best in earth...
Please react to the song Breaking All Illusions from the same concert. Welcome to the Dream Theater universe. You've just opened a door of nuclear grade epicness by Jedi Grandmasters of music. Buckle up, hold on and enjoy the ride.
On this video, only 3 original members are in the group currently. Singer , bassist, and guitarist. They have had 3 keyboardist, and the original drumner Mike Portnoy played for Avenged Sevenfold for a while and is involved in many othet projects.
seen them live in the Netherlands, they are realy a technical band so damn good what i missed........everybody was so blown away and stood there whith their mouth open.....so good! But when Metallica does a concert...then it's party mode and everybody have the time of their lives.....but if you want to see a technical band who is out of this world....that is Dream Theatre by far
The song "A Change of Seasons" from them will blow your mind. It was released in 1995. I really enjoyed the reaction video, pleeease do more DT!!! Pd: the masterpiece from the band is "Octavarium". If you want to react to the song I'm sure that all DT fans will se the video (hahah and me too)
You guys should check out their other epics, y'all won't be disappointed.. A Change of Seasons Octavarium The Count of Tuscany The Glass Prison Just to start you off ;) Love your reactions and comments, keep it up!!
Love that you dipped a toe into Progressive music, and anything you play from DT is good with me (many great suggestions already made)!! Another Prog band you may enjoy is Porcupine Tree. Try their song Anesthetize (live Tilburg) or Arriving Somewhere But Not Here (also live). Cheers!
You guys have the combination of great energy, a great knowledge of music and enthusiasm. I've been following DT since 1992, and haven't listened to anything else since! Can you guys listen to 'The Glass Prison' and give one of your patented great reviews...I really appreciate it! Keep up the great work, and thank you!
Another of the many bands inspired by Rush. Dream Theater is comprised of virtuoso musicians, the Guitar Player, John Petrucci and Bass Player John Myung, have been friends since Jr. high school and are the only two original members that remain. It would be difficult to find another band with this much talent, on that most people agree still DT is polarizing and even their fan base is divided. Often fighting over which era, or line up or album is best... IMO DT does not get the respect they deserve, their music is extremely technical and still emotional. Sometimes listening to their songs can be like taking a math test but it’s never boring and almost always impressive. I would recommend “the Glass Prison” or “the Count of Tuscany” if you decide to react to more DT
Hey guys.! I must say, I now have mud on my face, and it was no fault of your own. I must first say that I need to apologize to both of you for a comment I had made months ago in reference to you blocking the screen. Well today is another day and I just want to say, you can block the screen anytime. You two are amazing and I misjudged you. For a couple months now I repeatedly watch all your Dream Theater reactions and love them all. Once again, sorry for the misspoke words earlier, and the best to you all. Now let's do some more Dream Theater. Thanks.
I've been a huge Dream Theater fan since the late 90's - I really want to join you on your journey as you dive into an ocean of amazing dream Theater songs. In The Precdence of Enemies pt. 1 and 2, and Ministry of Lost Souls are 3 of them :-)
Greatest band in the world. Every member is one of the best, if not the best, at their instrument in all of rock. They can play anything, and their knowledge of music theory is unrivaled in the rock arena. Their weakest link is the singer, who used to be incredible, but injured his voice a decade or more ago. @@teardrop-in-a-fishbowl I find that DT is the most creative, not the best but they're masterminds
@@ilyas_elouchihi One can see it that way. I have to mention that DT did not invent the things they do, they developed it further and mastered it.
@@teardrop-in-a-fishbowl you're right
@@teardrop-in-a-fishbowl by the way what's your favorite album?

The greatest band on the planet....
I've seen this few times live.. along with octavarium.. it still hits me emotionally 😅... gotta love the power of music. 👍🇺🇸
Dream Theater, the count of tuscany, the best song i ever heard in my whole life. Try it, you won´t regret it.
I feel the exact same way. The Count of Tuscany is, in my opinion, sonic perfection or as close to it as any human can get.
in my opinion COT is a masterpiece ...just behind my favourite DT song....Home from Scenes from a memory.....
I second that choice. A reaction in parts to Scenes from a Memory would be cool with this couple. Talking about minds being blown away. DT, great musicians, ever better personalities. A step above all the rest
Great song
Same! Literally my favorite DT song ever
I was there!! This was played at Boston Opera House.
The best bit of this reaction is Susie’s smile erupting when the orchestra started playing. The positive emotion 💕

Breaking all Illusions
-Dream Theater
One of the most powerful song DT have created! IMO
What made this show neat is that the founding members of Dream Theater all went to Berkeley College of Music in Boston and when they did the show they had the entire Performing Arts majors for the orchestra chorus perform with them from that same school that they went to and performed there at the school

I have no truck against Portnoy, but everyone who thinks that Mangini has no "soul" in drumming, is clearly just jealous of him. 5:38
Exactly!
Mike is the musical drummer I've ever heard
Just pure art... That's all that needs to be said...
They are awesome live. Seen them many times. Usually, epic, long sets but I have seen them with support too. At one concert here in the UK, they played for 3 hours. Awesome song - quite possibly one of the best songs and ensemble ever! Lyrics, orchestra, the band itself and the crowd - fantastic!
Mike Mangini. Monster 😍. Dream Theater ❤️
I was there in that audience that night with my friend Chris. He was right. It looked cool. That night was especially... special. LOL

Thanks.
Dream Theater at the Boston Opera house
I've been a huge Dream Theater fan since the late 90's - I really want to join you on your journey as you dive into an ocean of amazing dream Theater songs. In The Precdence of Enemies pt. 1 and 2, and Ministry of Lost Souls are 3 of them :-)
Dream Theater
Professor of Music
This is definitely one if not the best song of latest DT work.
Dance of Eternity from the same concert is amazing.
Dream Theater = Perfection
You haven't even scratched the surface with Dream Theater.
Watch Dream Theater, " Under a Glass Moon " live in Tokyo 1994.
14.92 John Myung wasn't even looking at the drummer Mangini. Not sure how they nailed it. Way more talent than me.
From the same concert, try Breaking All Illusions, then The Mirror/Lie, and then Finally Free. Thanks for your beautyful reaction!
