You need to check out Their DVD Dream Theater Live At Luna Park! It's gonna literally amaze you. You'll feel same way especially during Portnoy and Rudess solos
I've seen them live for five times by now, the last time at the end of May and they were playing The Count of Tuscany, too. Just what I was hoping to hear. They never fail to amaze me. And this, for me, is their most epic song, if not the most epic of all. I treated myself with their concert in Zagreb for my birthday and when they played it as an encore, I felt like it was for me. I actually didn't expect them to play it, because they rarely play it live, so it was a special treat.
I won't lie - I was very emotional throughout the entire song. This has to go down as one of the greatest songs in the history of music. What a journey that was. Thank you for sharing yourselves with us. Love from Massachusetts.
I’m so blown away right now. This is why they on my favorite band. Normally I can tell right off the bat when it’s live versus recording but I can barely tell even when James started singing which is incredible
True. And while I love that they are finally being recognized, The Alien doesn't even break my top 30 or 40 songs by them whereas the Count is definitely in my top 15ish.
What I love about this band is that they can change the mood and beat in a super smooth way, it just fits so well! I would also recommend listening to their album “a dramatic turn of events”
I was at that concert. It was the High Voltage festival in London [2nd Day]. I have some great photos of Dream Theater and the other great bands that played over the two days - Judas Priest, Jethro Tull, Caravan, The Michael Schenker Group, Slash & Miles Kennedy, Queensryche and so on and so on.
I`ve seen these guys live several times and it`s like, damb! How do they do this so well live? They are so well rehearsed and so perfect at all times. This would be a fun band to be in but the perfection comes from the inhuman brains of these masters.
EPIC EPIC EPIC OMG MASTERPIECE!!!!! 🎼✌️🇨🇭 Dieser Song ist einer der besten den ich je gehört habe!! In den Top 10 ever Danke Jungs ihr seit wirklich ein DREAM THEATER 🎸
They visited and had a concert here in Manila last May of 2023. I'm planning to buy tickets, they're my Favorite Band and this is my favorite song. Little did I know, my Girlfriend bought tickets as a gift for my birthday, and when this song played, I literally cried the whole time.
I know these guys have practiced to get this good so not taking away from their hard work but some of this is God given talent! Not to mention all these amazing people having to come together to form this band.
There are moments when listening to music that you realize you are hearing not just something great, but something important. This piece is perhaps the most important there is.
It's got to be the musical equivalent of an orgasm. These guys are stupendously brilliant live and if you haven't seen them you really cant know just how incredible they truly are.
14:17 Petrucci, Myung and Portnoy met at Berkeley College of Music, which is considered upper echelon elite, and they dropped out to make music! Along the way they have picked up some very talented musicians who have also studied at top tier music academies. So I guess the answer is: yes they are masters.
For those who may not have known, Mike Mangini is behind his monstrous cage. Don't disrespect Mangini. Portnoy isn't anywhere close to Mangini. Mangini is missed, and will be missed.
This performance was good from him, especially the narration. He was a bit off at the higher parts but it didn't ruin the performance especially since this was at the end of the set. When I saw DT live, he had little left of his voice from the beginning of the show as it was in the middle of the tour. You could hear the strain in his voice even in lower parts, and he had to avoid high notes all the time since it wouldn't go well. That was a difficult show.
He has had some troubles because of the food poisoning when the doctor said he shouldn't sing, but I think they were in middle of tour and he didn't want to stop the tour. I think he said that he was coughing blood at some point too. He talked about this in interview with Elizabeth Zharoff and it was quite hard time for him. Elizabeth is a vocal coach and opera singer and the interview is in her channel The Charismatic Voice. James may have troubles reaching some of the high notes that he didn't have problem hitting in their earlier records, but I can't imagine DT with any other singer. It's not only about what notes you can hit, but color of his voice.
Actually they can and do do it on the fly During Their actual solos. Not during songs. They have those memorized and just 2nd nature to them. But during let's Say Jordan Rudess piano solo he needs drums and a small backing guitar piece. They make that up to go with whatever Jordan is playing. Same with John Petrucci solo if he needs or wants drums and or keyboard they improv it to fit what he's playing.
Let me please explain, thats not how it is, you must be confuse, its not isn't who i am, ... You can listen this forever1!!! Here we go!!!
This is what genius looks like. Dream Theater is a whole new level of musical prowess. If you like this, check out ARCH ECHO doing their musical madness playing any of their songs. They have some videos out. They are masters of the craft every bit as technical as Dream Theater. Love your reactions i am a loyal fan of your channel.
I got into them back during 1992 images and words been extreme fan since met them 2 times are best no one else comes close it has taken the deaf uneducated rest of world 30 years to catch up with what I've known 3 decades way to go winning Grammy about damn time
It's awesome to get other Badass Musicians take on Dream Theater. And yes They are literally all Professors of their Instrument. At least LaBrie Singer, Rudess Pianist, Petrucci Guitarist, Myung Bassist All graduated with Honors from Berkley School of Music. And to Vilphy P.B comment just got A LONG Overdue grammy!!!! For The Alien.
I share your enthusiasm re Dream Theater and all the members but you got their musical education wrong. John P. and John M. grew up together and jointly went to Berklee, Boston (not Berkley, California) where they met Mike P. After a year they left without graduating to form Majesty/Dream Theater. Jordan was at Juilliard, NY and left before graduating. And Mike M studied privately at the public school at Waltham/MA, he was a faculty member at Berklee for a couple of years before joining Dream Theater. I recommend the band's official biography (Lifting Shadows by Rich Wilson).
Having been a fan of DT for about a quarter of a century now, I obviously like their stuff, but it would've been so, SOOO much better if James didn't sound like an injured, scared and suffering animal outside of a studio setting🙂
The studio version with Mike Portnoy on drums is better. Portnoy wrote the drum part and it’s one of his best and most dynamic in my opinion. I like Mangini but portnoy plays with more feel. The lyrics for this song are a bit silly though. Sorry if I offend anyone but come on…..
It’s absolutely not a load of crap. Every instrument including drums can sound different when playing the same parts. Dynamics and phrasing like softer or harder hits. Accents and grooves and overall style can bring feel to playing over being a drum machine. Mangini is a great drummer but his focus is on speed and replicating the notes of older songs rather than being his style. So sorry…but feel exists. Go watch Gavin Harrison and you’ll understand.
Thankfully I can say that the new album is not even in my top 5 DT albums. Yes, Mangini is a beast. I have not said anything bad about him. I just prefer portnoy’s style. And the new album, to me; is just a modern day rehash of their older sounds. It does not push them forward but rather pushes them back. I loved dramatic turn of events and DT albums with Mangini. So don’t think I hate everything post portnoy. Unfortunately They lost me with the astonishing. Sorry. My opinion.
@@mpkelley20 I'd suggest you watch the videos of the drummer auditions to replace Portnoy. The band were looking for someone who would play their old songs the way fans knew rather than adding their own style to them.
To hear this live is one of the most musically moving experiences I have ever had...

Each individual of this band is godlike playing their instruments. DT musically is in different level.

DREAM THEATER to me is the greatest band in the world . I LOVE YOU GUYS 💖
The best band the world
My all-time favorite song, EVER!!
Comfortably my favourite song ever also, completely beautiful, almost overwhelmingly so.
I love how James narrates the different characters not just in this song but in Metropolis Part 2 and The Astonishing and other songs as well.
And sounding so good!
The Astonishing was a severely underrated task for James.
I love how Suzi feels the music - she’s perfect for reaction music videos
Thank you for such great Dream Theater reactions. It's always a pleasure sharing a little 20 min song. Peace.
I’m so blown away right now. This is why they on my favorite band. Normally I can tell right off the bat when it’s live versus recording but I can barely tell even when James started singing which is incredible
This is a masterpiece of masterpieces!!
Dream Theater just won a Grammy for their song, “The Alien “ . Do listen.
True. And while I love that they are finally being recognized, The Alien doesn't even break my top 30 or 40 songs by them whereas the Count is definitely in my top 15ish.
The Alien is a joke compared to what they delivered before 2009.
@@theeuropeanlegacy5075 It depends. the Alien is better than wither, A rite of passage, and prophets of war
@@Moskal91 I found those 3 songs are way better than Alien. Specifically a rite of passage. Classical at its best.
