Learn how to replace the water filter on your Samsung French Door Refrigerator
Buy The Samsung Refrigerator Water Filter - HAF-CIN at Abt: www.abt.com/product/50658/Sams...
Use this replacement filter with your Samsung refrigerator to provide clean fresh-tasting water and ice from your side-by-side or French door refrigerator. This Samsung refrigerator water filter gives you the ability to enjoy fresh clean water at the press of a button. Slim design allows for easy installation and removal; no tools required. For best results replace your Samsung filter every 6 months.
    Features:
    • Fresh Filtered Water and Ice at Your Fingertips
This refrigerator water filter is used in select Samsung French door and side-by-side refrigerators with filter access inside the refrigerator. While retaining beneficial fluoride this NSF Certified refrigerator water filter reduces cysts chlorine taste and odor particulates (Class I) lead and mercury. Replace your Samsung Refrigerator water filter every 6 months to ensure clean safe drinking water. For added convenience all Samsung refrigerators with an external dispenser have an indicator light on the display that reminds you when it’s time to replace your water filter.
    • Certified Performance
Samsung water filters are tested and certified by NSF International a not-for-profit non-governmental organization dedicated to public health safety and environmental protection. This certification is widely recognized around the world as a guarantee of safety and is your assurance that this filter has been tested by one of the most respected independent certification companies in existence today.
    • Reduction of Contaminants
Samsung water filters use only a high-grade carbon block which removes over 99 of the potentially harmful contaminants that may be present in your water:
o Chlorine Taste & Odor: Chlorine is used widely to treat water but may add a particular taste and odor to the water
o Heavy Metals & Chemicals: Lead asbestos benzene mercury and carbofuran; these common industrial contaminants with high toxicities can infiltrate the water source and be potentially harmful to your health
o Microbial Cysts: Parasites such as cryptosporidium are commonly found in lakes and rivers. They have a high resistance over disinfectants such as chlorine and thus may be present even in treated water
Follow the below guidelines for when to change your Samsung water filter:
    • 6 Months: Recommended for households with municipal water
    • 3-6 Months: Changing the filter more often is recommended for households using well water
    • Now: If water has visible particulates or an odor you notice a decrease in water flow or the filter indicator light is red (note: about 1 month before the filter needs to be changed the indicator will first turn orange)

A lot of people have commented to turn the water off first. While that is not required of all refrigerators, it's best to turn off the water before replacing your filter just to be safe.

Thank you very much for this informative video. Replacing the filter was very easy the first few times I did it; however, this last time when I tried to replace it there was a lot of pressure built up inside and it would push the filter back out, not allowing me to turn it all the way. Because of helpful comments below, I was able to turn off the water to my entire home, get the remaining water from the water dispenser out (less than a glass), and THEN the filter could be replaced. Also, for those not sure about how to turn off the "replace filter" warning light, on my fridge if you hold the "Alarm" button down for three seconds, the warning light will disappear. Thanks to all the commenters who provided help!

FYI: Not only may you have to shut off the water in your house, you may have to shut the water off connecting to your fridge. This is what happened to me. I called Samsung and they said that water builds up behind the fridge in the water hose -- and the only way to turn it (because of the water pressure) is to shut off the water supply to the fridge. The problem of course, is that if the water supply is not easily accessible (which in my case is true), then you have to move the fridge so you can get to the hose. Since the fridge is very heavy and in tight spot, this is a huge inconvenience. Honestly, because you are supposed to change these filters every 6 months and if you have the same issue of not being able to easily shut off the water to the fridge, I may suggest to looking into a different fridge. It may not be worth it for all this trouble.

I have the same kind of frig only the filter is in right upper corner. I had to pull out my frig which can only go so far til it hits a cabinet. I turned off the water supply behind the frig and it changed out very easily this time. The last time, I didn't turn off the water supply and it was a bear changing it. Must be because of water pressure.

Wow. It took everyone's comments to finally help reset the red filter light. This is a ridiculous process. I'm a 73-year-old woman with a cardiac condition and no way am I going to move the refrigerator to shut the water valve off. After great difficulty removing the old filter, I was able to do it with a set of pliers still with some difficulty. Putting the new filter in was equally difficult. It took all my strength and the pliers to turn the filter into Lock, but then I could not turn the red filter light off. Thank you to the person who suggested pressing the Alarm for 3 seconds. At first, it didn't work, but that's because, in addition to pressing the Alarm for 3 seconds, I had to go back and press the Red Filter for 3 seconds. Finally, it worked. Had I known all this before purchasing the refrigerator, I would never have bought it. Don't get me wrong, I live the fridge, but changing the filer is another matter. Goes to show you, you have to check out EVERYTHING before making a purchase.

This was very helpful, but to take it one step further, the red light is still on, and although there's instruction on the refrigerator, just add, don't forget to hold the filter reset button down for 3 seconds. Thanks for the help, short and simple video. Much appreciated.

To get rid of the red filter icon for the french door style Samsung refrigerator:
After removing the old water filter and installing a new one, reset the indicator light by pressing and holding the "Alarm / Hold For 3 sec.
For Filter Reset" button for 3 seconds.
For models with interior controls press and hold the Fridge and Power Cool buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds.

If it seems stuck or hard to turn this helped me out.
    Before removing the water filter.
Turn off the water to the house.
Open up the taps nearest the refrigerator to drain out.
Fill up a glass of water that may still remain in your refrigerator to release any remaining pressure.
    Then remove, replace filter.
Turn off the taps you opened so they don't spray out
Slowly turn the water to the house back on.
Then slowly turn on the taps again in the house to get the water flowing again.

Great and proper way of doing it. I took a chance and didn't turn the water off and used two adjustable wrench's. With one wrench I clamped down on the knob of the filter and with the other wrench I clamped down on the side of the first wench and turned with a mechanical advantage. No water sprayed out but some came out of the old filter. I had to push a tad bit to overcome the water pressure and turned the new filter in.

If replacement filter is unavailable, does Samsung offer a filer bypass plug, to prevent leaks?

Thanks for the video, and thanks to the other commentators as well. Hmmm, 2 gallons to flush the new filter...with no water dispenser, and only an ice maker... seems like its a lot of test cycles (i.e., cycle with no freezing) to go through.

Water must be shut off and removing pressure in the system by dispensing water (into a glass) before removing the filter.

    • @bassage13

@@notjoecheez1 You don't need to turn the water off. I do it all the time with no water leaking. It is, however very hard to turn if you leave the water on. If you don't have strong hands, there is no way you'll be able to get it out.

Our french door refrigerator does not have a water dispenser but does have an ice maker. How do I purge the filter without a water dispenser? It would take forever to purge even a gallon of water through the ice maker alone.

These comments needlessly scared me. All you have to do is shut the water to the house. Turn on the faucet at the kitchen sink and you'll have very little pressure and then a trickle. Replace the filter as shown in the video. Run water through the refrigerator for a few gallons. Push the filter reset button for 3 seconds and you're done.

  • @kckeithc
    @kckeithc Год назад

It's suggested to shut off water supply to fridge OR your main water shut off for the house if it's too difficult to get to the fridge shut off... I did NOT do that on mine and so far haven't had any issues (no leaking water). To clear the red filter indicator light, try holding down the "Crushed Ice" button for 3 secs... Or whatever button has the "Filter Reset (3sec)" written on it. Make sure to dispose of the first 2 gallons before drinking water from the new filter. All info came from these comments, just trying to share the important info we're all looking for.

The first thing you mentioned is not really the first step. Simply not mentioning to shut off the water, costed me my whole weekend to cleanup the flood due to dripping overnight. If you don't shut off the water, the water pressure behind the filter prevents perfect seal at the time of reinstalling the new filter.

I have the same exact fridge. 4 door Samsung. I have no problem removing and putting on a new one. The main problem is when I replace it with a new filter, it would dispense less than 5 seconds then a complete stop. I'd replace the old one back and it would dispense with no problem. Replace a new in, same thing, it stops dispensing after few seconds. I've tried Samsung brand, waterdrop (which is what's currently on the fridge that works) and water specialist. None of them worked. Please advise.

well thanks you helped me find the filter! BUT, mine is so difficult I had to get my husband to take it out and then to put it back in. I am wondering if it is the wrong size? I have French doors and a middle door and then freezer. So I ordered the one that was in the ridge when it got delivered to my house.
