- Learn how to replace the water filter in your Samsung refrigerator. This is fairly easy to do and requires no tools. Thank you!!
I bought amazon filters and had the same issue. I figured out if you hold the lock for 3 seconds, than the door alarm for 3 seconds and finally the ice maker for 3 seconds, it goes away. I just went back and held the door alarm for 3 seconds and lock for 3 seconds to make sure everything was reset. Done. Worked. BTW, you do not have to turn off the water to change the filter.
Couldn't get the filter change light to go out for the life of me. I changed to a OE filter and boom went out right away.
We have to turn off the water. Otherwise there is too much pressure.
@@tiffanyshean6231 Samsung internal refrigerator filters have a Valve installed where you do NOT have to turn off water.
Yes this method works for me and we don't need to turn off the water.
Worked easy af. Just swapped them out. Five seconds.
Thank you! I opted not to turn the water off since I can't get to it and I was able to get it locked and loaded just fine. 😊 I only have the ice maker in the bottom freezer.
I'm glad you found the video helpful!
Thanks for the excellent video. Thanks to the person who explained how to get the filter light to go off with a generic filter. Thanks to the person who added tips also. I’m all set now!
Awesome! Happy to hear you got everything sorted out. Let me know if you need any more tips!
Thank you very much. That was soooo helpful… I almost broke the fridge. 😂😂😂😂
Thank you for watching our video on how-to replace the water filter in your Samsung refrigerator. Glad to hear this helped you out. Have a great day!
Our filter went out for the first time so I just went out and bought a Samsung water filter at Home Depot, which is where we got our refrigerator. Found your RUclips channel when I searched for changing out the water filter thank you very much for your tips, new subscriber here.
Thanks for the sub! Glad this video helped you out.
Impressive. As a first time home owner this was very helpful. Thank u.
Thanks for watching!
I just changed mine all by mysef to an off brand. Light went off finally. Just a little water spilled from the old cartridge. Easy peasy. Didnt shut off water. Thank u so much for this video. You r my hero. ❤
That's fantastic to hear! I'm glad the video helped you with the cartridge change.
I bought some water filters from Walmart and tried to install. I didn’t know that I had to shut the water off before installing. I woke up around 2am with water all in my refrigerator drawer!! I’m going to try doing what you said. Ty.
It helps to shut it off. Once the new filter is in place double check for leaks. Hope this helps you out.
As someone who just changed this out for the first time, I'd like to add the following tips which might help someone else:
1. It's not absolutely REQUIRED to turn the water off, but if you can do so easily, I'd recommend it. It removes pressure from the system which will allow the previous filter to come out easier, and more importantly, allows the new filter to make a tight seal when you install it.
2. When you remove the old filter, it may feel like it won't come out. Some say you have to take plyers to it. I thought mine was like this at first, too. It turns out I wasn't twisting it counter clockwise enough. Once you turn it enough, it pops right out. There's no need to put extra pressure yanking it out and you might risk damaging the housing and/or breaking the plastic handle on the filter which will make removal more challenging.
3. I noticed the process introduced air into the system which caused a lot of weird noises and lots of extra dripping from the dispenser once I stopped pushing it (making a mess). Once you run a few gallons through the system, both the weird noise and the extra dripping will stop.
Good luck, and enjoy crystal clear water! :)
Thank you for the added tips! have a great day!
Did your refrigerator still leak into the bottom crispers drawer? If so how did you stop it?
thankyou the dripping and the noise was scaring me
Thank you so much for your guidance!! I was able to do it without any issues!! 🎉
You're welcome!
Just got home from work and wife said "the refrigerator filter light is on. I took out the filter to get a photo of it so I buy the right one tomorrow. Couldn't get the old one back in" and here I am. Thank you!!
Hope the video helped you out.
Still can't get the old one back in. Hope it doesn't break the fridge or something 🤷♀️
Great video! Absolutely needed, will be changing water filter when new filter arrives. Thanks again!
Glad to help!
Thank you, very much. Just finished replacing the filter and was able to turn off that damn red light.
Glad this helped you out.
This is great - thanks so much. It's really going to be hard to turn the water off for the refrigerator. If I switch the filter really quickly, do you think I can get away with it without too much water leaking in?
You will be fine changing the filter without turning the water off. I just did this on mine two days ago. Just check under the drawer that no water is leaking when you are done.
Thank you so much for the step by step instructions. It help me change my filter with ease.👍
Thank you for watching our video that shows you how to replace the water filter in a Samsung refrigerator. Have a great day!
I just bought my samsung filters from Samsung and they were a lot cheaper than Amazon, Thank you for the video
Bought mine there too. There is a link in the description right to them if anyone else needs to buy a new water filter.
Thanks for the suggestion. It is cheaper to order from Samsung website than from Amazon. Just bought it today.
Actually mine were cheaper on eBay. They were sold out when I tried to purchase from Samsung. Plus free shipping. I love eBay. ❤
Thank you for time God bless you
You are welcome
Thank you for the video. We have done these steps and have water leaking into the vegetable drawer. We’ve tried to uninstall and reinstall several times. Not sure why this filter is doing this. It is a Samsung filter and it was authentic.
You're welcome!
The manual for this fridge is horrible. I couldn't locate the filter and was about to begin the laborious task of removing the front plate, lifting the rollers, and pulling out the fridge when I found your video. There it is, dead center in the front. Thanks for your assistance.
Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much! I was able to reset my filter.
Glad I could help!
The Amazon Pureplus filter worked for me...I did these same steps and got the filter light off on the first attempt.
I will have to check those out. Thanks for the tip!
Thanks for the content. Especially since I can't read super fine print in 8 different languages anymore. Lol
lol..me either.
Pressing the Lock button for 3 seconds then pressing the Ice maker button for 3 seconds did the trick for me.
Don’t forget to press lock for 3 seconds again to lock after resetting filter.
Thanks for the added tip
Thank you
You're welcome

Excellent!!!!!!! ✅✅✅
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you! Very helpful video.
Thank you for watching and your kind words!
Super helpful. Thank You
Glad it was helpful!
I just replaced mine with a generic. Not sure if this will help anybody else, but I had to take stuff off the shelf right above the filter so that it lined up properly. Not sure why that made such a difference, but it did. The first time I tried it, I could hear what sounded like a bad connection between filter and water (it was making the same sound a water hose does when you bend it). I took the stuff off, put it in, and it seems to have worked.
Thanks for watching.
I bought Amazon filters and they worked fine.
My filter light would not turn off using them. Tried a couple of them, then went back to the Samsung ones and bingo change filter light went out.
Thanks for this

You good the control lock for 3 seconds and then hold the ice maker button for 3 seconds to reset the filter indicator.

Thxxxx so much we needed this
Glad this video helped.
Thank you! Great information.
Glad it was helpful!
You can reset the red filter light without using a Samsung filter. Unlock the control panel first and then reset. I just did it. There is nothing in the filter that tells the fridge what filter is in place.
I tried this multiple times on mine...switched to the OE filter and bam light went out.
Muchas gracias 😊
Thanks for checking out our Samsung water filter replacement video.
Great- really helped me out - thanks! 👍
Glad it helped!
I would have loved to see how you open that package. The last time I did it I had to use a screwdriver and super scissor cutters. It’s very difficult.
Yeah they should have a tear away section on the filter so it is easy to get the water filter out.
Thanks a lot for the video. Very helpful!
Thank you for watching our video that shows you how to change the water filter cartridge in your Samsung refrigerator.
Thanks APPRECIATE YA👍🏽
No problem 👍
Thanks it’s a big help 🎄
No problem at all. Thank you for checking out our video.
Hello ! Thank you for your helpful video. Did you turn off thr water for your whole house as well as the water to the fridge ?
And I'm having issues with my ice maker (no ice will come out) do you think the filter will help with this as well ? Sorry for so many questions lol
I just did it in back of the refrigerator on the feed line into the refrigerator. You can replace it without turning the water off, just make sure it is not dripping, this happened to me once and I had to unscrew the water filter and re-seat it again and then it was fine. Hope this helps you out.
Can you hear it moving? I have found that with this icemaker if you stack too much food next to it in the refrigerator it freezes the ice maker up. The front of the ice maker has a handle on it you can pull it out and check. I hope this helps out. Tony
@@HomeOwnerRepair thank you so much. I appreciate your responses !
OMGosh, thank you so much, this was really helpful!!👍👍👍

Changed ours with a generic filter about 2 weeks ago. Light never went off. Now ice cubes have an odor. We do not have the water dispenser, only the ice cube maker. Suggestions?
Same thing happened here. I couldn't get the filter light to shut off. I went back to an OE Samsung filter and everything was fine. There is a link in the description of this video to the Samsung filters.
I’ve changed my filter at least three times. Refrigerator less than 2 yrs old. Well I changed it last night and woke to that wide drawer full of water and my floor flooded!!! Filter appeared to be flush but I admit I couldn’t get the light to stop blinking last night. So I removed filter, seems to not be leaking. What is trick to putting that filter in? Thanks
The filter has orings at the end for a water tight seal. Make sure those are not damaged. When installing push and twist to lock it in place. I typically pull the drawer out when I am done to check for a leak.
Thanks
Welcome
What if I can't move the fridge to shut off the water? I tried putting in the new filter and the water just pours into that bottom drawer.😅
You can replace the filter with the water on. Once the water filter is locked into place make sure it is not leaking. Usually it will puddle under the drawer it it is leaking. Hope this helps you out.
I don't have a water or ice dispenser on the door just an ice maker on the inside bottom door. I changed my OEM filter with a new OEM filter and did the reset but it hasn't made ice in over a week. I did not turn off the water to do the change out so that's not the problem?
Pull the ice bucket out and see if the ice maker has frozen. I find that if you pack too much food around the outside of the icemaker in the refrigerator it ices up the ice cube maker and it stops working. It's a pain. Hope this helps you out.
How much ice do you have to make to clear the filter? We do. It have a water dispenser on our fridge.
Not sure. It is not something I have tried.
My manual said to make and empty two trays. Sheesh
How do you open the package it’s so difficult there has to be an easier way then to rip it apart
Usually VERY CAREFULY with a utility knife. BE CAREFUL!
I needed to check the brand of water filter so that I could order another one. Without turning off the water I removed the dirty filter, quickly got my information and put it back in. 30 minutes later I went to get a drink of water from the refrigerator and the water wouldn’t stop running. Help??
It sounds like something may have not seated correctly. If it is dripping out fill up a few glasses of water to get the air out of the line and it should stop. Hope this helps you out.
I am a widow do I have to turn water off to replace the filter and is the noise it needs a filter beeping occasionally? Is that why it is beeping
I recommend shutting the water off to the filter to reduce the possibility of water leaking out when replacing the filter. With that said, you do not have to shut the water off when replacing the water filter on your Samsung refrigerator. Just wipe up any water and check for leaks when you are finished. I am not sure what is causing the beeping noise. When the water filter needs to be replaced a red change filter sign will illuminate next to the settings panel inside of the refrigerator. Hope this helps you out. Have a great day!
But how do you get the filer out of the large hard plastic package?
you don't, just turn the filter to unlock and keep on turning until it unscrews. The large hard plastic package is all part of the new filter.
Thanks for the reply
You can use a manual can opener to open that kind of packaging. I have an 8” scar on my arm from opening a package of batteries that was packaged like that. I’m doing the can opener method from now on.
@ Shelby A, I received my Filter & has to fight the hard plastic package, I thought, What the "H$#L", No one is going to steal this thing, it took me about 10 minutes fighting with the package, I thought I might have to call someone to "HELP"...l🤣🤣
Wow DRM water filter 😮
Thanks for watching.
Can't find the water shut off valve. Do I have to pull the fridge out and look in the back?
You do not need to shut off the water to replace the filter. I’m not sure why he did that.
You can change it without shutting the water off. Shutting the water off may help with it dribbling out a little.
Glad to hear this. My manual says to shut water off, probably for a disclaimer, but small frail people would have trouble doing this.
Is anyone else having an issue where it’s not dispensing water after changing the filter? I can’t figure out what to do and have took the filter in out many times. I noticed when there is no filter inside the water dispenses no problem. Any insight would be very much appreciated.
Did you take the cap off of the end of the filter? It's the only thing that I can think of that would prevent the water flow.
@@HomeOwnerRepair yes I removed the cap on the filter it sits and locks flush when installed. It dispensing very very little at a time when installed. When I remove the water filter it dispenses a lot faster.
Is it the water pressure is too low? I’m having this issue too. I don’t have a water valve in the back of my Samsung fridge so I turned off the main water line - but the water is still trickling out and it seems the water pressure is screwed up
This video is almost 4 minutes but in my Samsung refrigerator it takes about 10 seconds to take one out and put a new one in, voila
Thanks for watching
Well it helped me! Thanks for doing the video.
I changed the filter but it is continuing to drip water into the bottom drawer could you help?
I have had this happen before. Try to remove the filter and then put it back it. Hope this helps you out.
I am trying to twist the knob on the water filter to the left and it won’t even budge, so what do I do?
It might take a little strength to turn it but it should release for you. If you haven't already for the heck of it try turning the water off then try to turn it to see if that takes any of the pressure off of it.
My filter seems stuck. When we turn to unlock the lock is hard to turn.
Mine can be like that too sometimes. It takes a little effort to unlock it.
Does the old filter feel light when its empty?
It lights up when the filter needs to be changed. If you shut the water supply off to the refrigerator I am not sure if it turns on if the filter runs dry.
Water filter to change on a Samsung that’s about 10 years old. How do you do that?
It may be a similar process.
What will happen if you can’t turn the water line off? I can’t move my fridge it’s too heavy ?
You can change it without shutting the water off. I did this myself two days ago. Just make sure it is not leaking under the middle drawer. Hope this helps you out. Have a great day!
Hi
I can not insert the new filter completely
Sticks out 1 inch
You have to push and twist the new filter in to lock it into place. Hope this helps you out.
Where is the water shutoff? I can't find mine. Filter light came on a month after I moved into my new place. Home is 3.5yrs old.
There shout be a shut off on the line into the back of the refridgerator. If you can't see one you should be able to replace the water filter without shutting the water off, just double check for leaks when you are done.
Ok, thx for the reply. I have an enclosed space behind the refrigerator like most people ,but I didn't understand from your video, the location of the valve you are showing being closed. To save me having to move this behemoth of a fridge, if I shut the main water shutoff downstairs, that would work ,right? @@HomeOwnerRepair
Where is the shut off valve?
There should be one on the water supply line the feeds the refrigerator.
Is it necessary to shut the water off to replace the filter?
I have done it without shutting it off, but a little water dribbled into the refrigerator when I did this.
No, it is not necessary at all.
Thanks for stating that you don’t have to turn the water off to pull out the filter. Because I really didn’t want to slide my refrigerator out of the cabinet.
How to tell if it needs to be replaced?
Usually the red filter light will illuminate on the control panel inside of the refrigerator. Hope this helps you out. Have a great day!
@@HomeOwnerRepair thank you. I have noticed the water flow is decreasing.
Why does mine have a very weak stream
Is the water filter old or is the read change water filter light on?
@@HomeOwnerRepair the red light is now on but it’s been very weak since I moved into the house it is a brand new refrigerator
I am having trouble with the door i think i left the old filter in too long
The water filter should not effect the door at all
👍👍👍
Thanks for watching.
Wait am I supposed to shut the water off before doing this…
You don't have to, BUT it may help with water leaking out and under the vegetable bin when you change the water filter.
Where is water shutter ? Move the refrigerator?
There may by one at the back of the refrigerator on the wall that the water feed line connects to. You should be able replace the water filter without turning the water off. I just did this last week. Just double check the water filter in the refrigerator to see if it is dripping. Hope this helps you out.
Your hand blocked whatever you did with that little tab
Sorry about that
I hated draining water for 6 minutes
Hope our video that shows you how to change your Samsung refrigerator water filter has helped you out.
I bought Amazon filters, it was a disaster
Yeah same here. I switched back to the Samsung branded ones and they have been fine.
