I like that you noted to swing the filter all the way over until it can't go over any more before you pull it out! Very important bit of information because if you only swing it over part way, it will not pull out. The fact that you illustrate that it can't swing over any more was helpful to me. I watched the quickest video before this one and the lady didn't point that out and I broke one of the little tabs off of my $50. filter. Thanks for that point!
I am going to try this, I have had so many really smart people try it and ended up paying $100 to a GE Technician to get the new one installed. If I ever get this one in there, I am never changing it again! Your video is the best one like other comments said.
Thank you!! So much,we have the same exact refrigerator and in 3yrs I have never been able to install the filter without a struggle 😅 until this video.Took 2 minutes!! 😁
We watched 5 videos. This is the only one that showed clearly where the opening should be when insertion began. We had to move the opening to the right with the old filter. Thank you! We would have tried without success because most videos go too fast and don't show clear shots of the refrigerator.
Very good video but I would recommend anyone watching start at the 2:24 min time of the video if you want to simply watch the install demo. Thanks for taking the time to show us
Really good video, exactly what I needed see in order to replace my water filter in my GE refrigerator the correct way. Please note, that taking the filter out can be difficult to pull out and would not be for anyone handicapped in strength, just keep that in mind to those out there reading. My guess is the second time (third filter) will be easier, I tested that theory on this new filter and it wasn't as bad as the first time, but once the system is pressurized that maybe a different story. Thank you for posting!
Thanks for the video. I struggled to get my new filter into place, then saw with the help of this video that the receiving end (the white part) hadn't actually moved all the way to the right, so I couldn't line the filter up without hitting the gray shoulder. I used a screwdriver to move the white part to the right and get it lined up. Voila! It helped to see how it was supposed to be to figure out what I needed to do. Thanks for the help, Watson's Wagons.
@@brendawire4955 It was NOT easy because the plastic seemed to be stuck together... I used a short but fat screwdriver, poked it into the hole and used the handle like a lever. I moved it left and right to free that receiving end up more and more until I could get it to go all the way to the right. Does that make sense?
@@SeniorLady Thanks so much. I was able to get it finally. I think the issue is when I remove the old filter, it didn't position the plastic hole correctly for installing the refill. The screwdrive approach worked! Thanks so much.
Thank you for your very informative video. I I I have been trying to change the filter and flush out the lines or the filter on my dad‘s refrigerator and did not know how. I must’ve watched five videos that were no help at all. So thank you for yours.
This video was right on! I used a replacement filter found on Amazon and just remembered to place the nose in with the little white piece sticking up and the little cup shape on the bottom. I have issues with the strength in my hands but was able to do it. I am 5 ft 2 and was just able to reach the filter.
This saved me an expensive service call. The crappy instructions tell you to twist 1/4 turn. That will break off the water cartridge tab on this model fridge. Follow his instructions exactly, and be sure the rear “wings” on the end of the cartridge are perfectly horizontal
I stop flushing once the water runs clear, usually in the second half gallon. Haven't seen any discoloration in the ice and the water tastes the same. Like the video.
Thanks for the info, I did it! The only problem is the actual fridge itself. Nothing but problems...it leaks, sometimes I am unable to open the freezer door, the fridge is LOUD. I regret buying a ge. I thought they produced quality products like in the 70's and 80's.
One thing this video and the instructions didn't explain is that after all this you need to press and hold the water button for 3 seconds to reset the timer. Kinda annoying the instructions didn't say that
Does my height have to be as high as the filter is because I'm 5 ft and I have a French door GE and I cannot get the filter in for all the tea in China and I'm ready to throw the damn thing out the window is it because I'm shorter that I'm not getting it in the proper way all I know I will never own another GE product again with all the problems I've had this isn't a problem having a dishwasher that decided to flood my floor that's the problem not the first time second time
If the female part doesn’t swing out when you pull the old filter out take the back end of a wooden spoon and swing it out to the right then just put the new filter in as marked, swing everything back to the left and close the little door.
I just finished swapping in a new filter for the first time. Water dispenser would not work until I pressed the selection on the display screen marked "Installation Bypass". Bypass as in "bypass the rigamaroll about scanning the QR code to order a new filter and turn on the water dispenser" not "how to install a bypass water line to use the water dispenser without a filter". D'oh!!!!
TIP- Don't buy the Brand X filters to save money. There is a RFI chip on the GE brand filters, the Brand X ones don't have them. The refrigerator will not recognize the filter and the water will not dispense. I learned the hard way.
Now I just I stalled new filter. It worked a few times and now it stopped dispensing water! There is an error message: control locked. I turned the power off to my whole house for 10 seconds, then turned back on....the error msg stills displays and no water.
Mine too. I just spent a hour on the phone with ge trying to get my filter in. Mind you this is the 2nd filter. I broke the 1st one. Your video was great. I have gotten them in only with help. Frustrating to see you pop it in 1,2,3. I'll try again in the am when I am not so upset. I will be watching your video again while trying to get it in so easily. Thank you
ITS not as simple as it look, GE should of make this thing a hell of a lot user friendly it should not be so hard to change a water filter I have the GE 3 years and I have only been able too change. it 2 times on my own. lucky I have a service contract the tech always have to come out and install it.
NO NO NO not that simple....Thanks for your effort..your hand gets in the way..and mine WILL NOT install that simply...I am NOT an IDIOT but this is the worse design EVER!!! Wish I had checked it out before I bought the dam fridge..
Take your cell phone up close to where it plugs in and take a picture of it. See if you have any busted tabs that are stuck in there getting in the way.

Yes that’s a key point I wish they emphasized
The last piece of information you posted to look at the end of the filter and the straight horizontal alignment was the trick for me. Thanks.
watched two other videos before this one! Easy, easy after your much more thorough vid. Thanks!
I’m happy it worked out for you

Thank you so much for posting this video. I immediately saw what I did wrong when you began to insert the new filter.
I’m glad I was able to help have a wonderful Thanksgiving

What if it still says replace after the new one goes in?

thanks.. the screwdriver technique helped me ! 🙂
Thanks for the great video!!!! Really a lifesaver. The instructions are to difficult and confusing.

That measurements of water helped alot thanks
Great video. Much appreciated!
This is a great tip, it worked for me. Thank you so much!
Thank you, you made a very confusing job simple, I had the very same serial name , appreciate your time and kindness.
Instruction starts at 2:42

What if the “replace water filter” alert doesn’t change after installing the new one
Really don’t know, maybe the owners manual has a reset procedure. Sorry
One thing this video and the instructions didn't explain is that after all this you need to press and hold the water button for 3 seconds to reset the timer. Kinda annoying the instructions didn't say that
Gracias señor me ayudado mucho su video 😊
I put my filter in backwards. I know, pretty stupid. I got it out, but can't get in correctly. Did I break it?
I have no idea. Thought it went in only one way. What broke?

One gallon, at most is sufficient. As long as the water is clear, like after your second measuring cup full, you’re fine. Just for future reference.
Looks easy

It’s a good filter with a bad microchip. Return the filter and get a new one. I just did this with my refrigerator,
What if you replace the filter and it still won't make ice cubes?? Ty

I agree, and in every video the person's hand is in the way during installation. How does one line up the filter so the little clip goes in?
The other guy said twist it
What it you twisted
If you twist it, you may break the tabs
Guess I messed up the connection box The tabs are not broken
Any trick to fix the connection box to line up
Will I have to have a new grey connection box replaced
