Fun Fact! While bird’s bones are hollow, they are not heavier than bones of creatures of similar size. This is because bird bones are super dense in order to not break on impacts despite their hollowness. The reason bird bones are hollow is to store extra oxygen while flying.

it's not quite for storage actually, bird lungs work very differently and the air sac system helps to direct air so that air only actually flows in one direction through the lungs (which is much more efficient) instead of our two way system, and they also help to cool off the body!

Fun fact: a squirrel cannot die from falling. Their terminal velocity is so low that no matter how far they fall it won't do that much damage. I think the terminal velocity is somewhere around 20 mph

Fun fact : crows have the inteligence of a 7 year old child. They can recognise their reflection in a mirror, remember human faces for years and they live in very structured societies. Some species are known to use tools made with little branches to catch insects.

I went to an animal sanctuary once and there were two crows there. One was imitating a human laugh, which I thought was cool, but after a while I had to leave. As my back was turned, the other crow decides to yell “Hi!” as loud as he could and give me quite the scare. I think the crow’s silence until that point was him plotting his scheme.
Fun fact: dogs are dominantly handed, i.e. they prefer to use their left or right paw. They also prefer to spin a certain way, as well as prefer a certain hip to rest on one laying down and sitting

fun fact: the "banana" flavour that candy is actually a real banana flavour. the bananas that the candy flavouring is based on went extinct because of a plant virus and the bananas we have now are a different breed that was resistant to that virus. so the only way we can ever taste those bananas again is by eating banana flavoured candy :^)

Fun fact: The original Toy Story 2 was completely deleted on accident but luckily one of the supervising technical directors had an extra copy of the film so she could work on it while at home taking care of her newborn. If it wasn’t for her we would probably have never gotten Toy Story 2 or at least not for a long time.

This actually reminds me of a similar movie that had a sadder fate- Foodfight. The original movie was apparently stolen, and sadly the movie was not saved anywhere else. The Foodfight we have now was created in an extremely short time period on an extremely short budget, and is actually so low quality that someone recorded and uploaded the whole movie to RUclips and (as far as I know) haven’t even received a copyright claim, as nobody seems to care about it.

My fun fact: Corset time!
Corsets weren't as restrictive as media frames them to be. Corsets were almost always custom made to fit the person, and had to be "broken in" like a pair of Doc martens. Also, tight lacing like you often see in the movies was only really done for parties, the rest of the day ladies wouldn't lace up their corsets as tight. Furthermore, Corsets weren't just to achieve a desirable shape, they served more like bra's do now, to distribute the weight if the bust, and people who wear (actual high quality, custom made, broken in) corsets now report that they do so very well. Women of all classes wore corsets, also lower class working ladies, so yes, corsets were comfortable enough to wear out in the fields, and they were worn basically everywhere you'd wear a bra to now. The reason actors in period pieces often say corsets are very uncomfortable is because the movie studios often don't have the time, money, or skills, to get a custom tailored corset for all the actors who would need to wear them, AND let them break their corsets in. Also they often prioritize the corsets making the actors look good over them being comfortable.

Technically, one of the first fandoms with written fiction was a group of women who wrote Mercutio x Benvolio fanfic (yes, the Shakespeare play boys). But because they were a "ladies' book club," history forgot them.

But It definitely was an important bonding agent helping indirectly congeal the existing nerd, geek and "Q" fans together.
It wasn't the only one, but considering how many Fan 'Zines came out of it and helped support more, and how people existing in the margins want to meet others with similar thought patterns...it definitely had a role to play.
FUN FACT TIME !!!!!!!!!! humpback whales have regional songs!! so like the male humpback whales near Hawaii and the male humpback whales near Mexico would sing different songs to attract mates. (and also potentially for different reasons bc they also sing while feeding and migrating) Humpback whales do a lot of migration, so parts of songs that they pick up from one area, they can add to and change songs from the area they are currently in. i think this is a very fun fact and i hope u enjoyed it as well :]

This should go for a lot of highly social animals that are kept as pets, like rats and mice.
as someone who has guinea pigs, and has had them their whole life I can confirm this!!! they're very socialable animals (like many others), and need a friend or else they can get moody, depressed, or aggressive! and if you introduce a new piggie to ones that have basically grown up together, it won't end well, because while they are socialable, they're also territorial! (speaking from experience on this part xD) all in all, if you have/want piggies, make sure to have at least two, and adopt don't shop!! lots of piggies get turned over!
The first time I had a guinea pig I only had one and that creature wasn't happy. Then when I got a guinea pig pair after the first one had passed, when one of the pair died the other one was very unhappy until we found him another buddy.
Fun fact: The song "hip hop cherry pop" by lemon demon was going to be used in a short film of the same name, it was later replaced by a stock song inserted in the final cut.
(quick note: The short film does use a slur to describe one of the characters played by Ryan Murphy, so viewers discreson is advised)

Ravens and crows are incredibly smart ! They can mimic human sounds (that means words too) and use tools to solve problems. They’re also very very loyal to their flocks, can remember human faces (those who help and those who hurt). They hold funerals for members of their flock who have passed away. AND if a person does something to do their flock (unaliving a member, stealing an egg, etc) the rest of the flock will remember that person and chase them away.
Fun fact! They do not hold funerals. They are doing crime scene investigations, trying to figure out what killed the raven/crow so they can determine whether or not it's still safe to be in that area!

Fun fact! Grass (lawn) growing around trees is incredibly bad for them. Grass roots actively compete with tree roots for water and nutrients because they occupy the same space underground. Tree roots do not grow very deep, instead they only occupy the first 6-12” of soil generally.
Wow! I never thought about that, but it might explain why so many trees planted in a grass space get mulch rings around them.

Which means that if you can find a gender that doesn’t already “exist” and you can coin it, you can create a flag for it. And everyone sees you as the one that “created that gender”. Fun fact from me! Naked mole rats are a eusocial species, which basically means that they work as a hive! There are different types of workers and one queen! Mammals are almost never eusocial, since their higher intelligence makes more evenly spread social ranks more easy to form.

@@justaperson4656 id love to share! basically the original wolf dominance study from 1922 focused on wolf behavior in captivity, where the wolves had to compete for limited resources, and that’s where the idea of a wolf dominance hierarchy(alpha/beta/gamma/omega) came about. but in 1999, another study was done and essentially disproved this, finding that in the wild, wolves don’t compete for dominance at all and instead work in family groups. the whole dominance hierarchy was only present in the original study because the wolves were placed in captivity for the purposes of the research.
the debunked 1922 study’s use of “alpha” and “beta” as the names of the wolf groups studied(they also used gamma and omega as categories i’m pretty sure?) is what sparked the whole “alpha male” concept which has been in popular culture for a pretty long time. (funny enough the study is also is the reason for omegaverse fan fiction culture which is a whole other wormhole lol) but the concept of the “sociosexual hierarchy” was first introduced in a 2011 blog post by vox day(scary alt-right guy, very unpleasant human being to say the least) where he listed 7 different “male archetypes”(alpha, beta, delta, gamma, omega, sigma, and lambda), ordered by each group’s average number of lifetime sexual partners(it’s funny because he literally gives no evidence or sourcing for any of this it’s just him saying shit). the post seemed to have gained some traction because in 2017, a book called “the sigma male: what women really want” was published which talked about the sigma archetype that vox day coined in his original post. im pretty sure that’s what influenced the obsession with sigma males in recent years on youtube and stuff in “men’s rights”/redpill spaces.
so basically it’s a story that’s partly about misinformation and pop science and partly about alt-right internet assholes just completely making shit up and calling it fact.

Fun Fact that's pretty commonly known, but I enjoy talking about it anyway: Being left-handed was 'frowned upon' even as recently as the mid-20th century, because of this a lot of older left-handed people became ambidextrous. Some children would even have their left hand tied around their back, and even be hit for using their dominant hand, also in some countries, left-handedness was illegal and was punishable as a crime.
Another fun fact off of this one :)! One remnant of left-handedness being seen as bad is actually the word “sinister” it comes from the Latin word for left hand (which I can’t remember off the top of my head). A Romans toga would always cover their left arm/hand and their right hand would be bare because you used your left hand to wipe after you go to the bathroom.
Are you thinking of sinestra? "Ambisinistrous" is also a word that exists, but because of right-hand dominance, being "left on both sides" is usually a term for being clumsy (such as "having two left feet").
Also it can be incredibly painful to perform tasks with your right hand (who would've thought! /sarcastic). I decided to draw with my right hand once and could not think properly for the rest of the day.

Fun Fact number 1 (that's right bitches two for the price of one): when Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales was being made they originally had a completely different actor playing Salazar (I forget _exactly_ who) but he dropped out due to scheduling conflicts, when Javier Bardem joined the film to replace them the writers had to rewrite a decent chunk of Salazar's backstory due to the fact that, no matter how much they could try to hide it Javier Bardem has a very noticeable Spanish accent instead of just being a captain in the British navy, like most other side characters in the Caribbean films, they changed the characters origin to the Spanish armada and the rest is history
Fun fact number 2: the original Super Mario Bros for the NES could only render 3 colours per sprite so despite looking like he has 4 colours in his sprite this is a trick Bowser has played on all of us the forth colour (namely Black) comes from the backdrop of the levels you fight him in and if you where to hack the game to put him anywhere else all the black parts for his sprite would change the backdrop of THAT level

Fun fact 1:Cats have three eyelids on each eye. One on top, one on the bottom and a translucent one in the corner of their eye.
Fun fact 2: Cats don’t always land on their feet, HOWEVER, If falling from a reasonable height, a cat can sense it’s position in the air and right themselves. They can also spread out their Legs in order to catch the air and lessen their fall damage. This doesn’t mean a cat won’t get hurt from high falls, though.
Fun fact 3: Male cats have a barb on the tip of their…. Schlong. Yup. It hooks when doing the “reproduction limbo” and it kinda explains why the cat on the receiving end can get so… vocal.
Fun fact 4: Cats have backwards-facing barbs on their tongue! That’s why it feels like sandpaper. The barbs act as a brush for the cat, however fur will catch on and end up being swallowed, hence *hairballs*. That is why it’s dangerous for a cat to attempt to eat things like yarn, because it may get stuck on the barbs, making it difficult to get out of the mouth. Obviously, a cat shouldn’t be eating yarn, but you get the idea.
Fun fact 5: (usually) Cats like small, tight spaces! If your cat keeps heading for a box, or under a bed, or between couch cushions, it’s seeking a comfortable spot in which to sleep! Bags, holes, drawers, if your cat can fit, it’ll probably go there. They can go in such small places because of their bone and skeletal structure. Their bones are not so locked into place like ours, they can stretch and squeeze far easier than us and certain other animals, like dogs.

Pigeons' poop isn't supposed to be this liquid icky mess that we see everywhere in cities, their poop is supposed to be pretty solid. The only reason it isn't is because they don't have access to the right food, aka mainly small seeds, in a good amount.
Possibly not that fun of a fact but still an interesting fact, at least in my opinion. Birds are one of my hyperfixations or special interests, can't really tell which but I do know I love them a lot and am really interested in them, especially pigeons and corvids.
I have been feeding my local pigeons for maybe a couple months or so now? Many of them feel comfortable sitting on my arms, hands, sometimes shoulders, or if I have a shoulder bag etc etc. They are adorable little rascals. Anyways the thing is that their poop has started becoming more solid! They unfortunately shit on me sometimes- however a few times recently it has not only brought be the normal icky feeling but also joy because it means that their diet is becoming more healthy!
So hey, if you need something to get you out and about more often try feeding your local birds. I started this spring with the crows at our local graveyard and it's the most rewarding experience ever, only downside is that it sometimes makes everything else in life feel incredibly bland in comparison. Nothing beats befriending and earning the trust of animals you admire to me. Plus sometimes it's just the thing you need since regular human relationships are so complicated.

It's as if no matter how nd ppl are living their lives & navigating their own neurodivergency, rather than showing understanding & respect, what nt repeatedly & only show, is pity.
It may be due to the fact that a lot of them have the preconception that neurodivergency is inherently "bad","hard" & in some cases "miserable".
While in some cases it can be inherently challenging to navigate disability & neurodivergency in someone's life, most of the times neurodivergency is made to be hard/harder bc of the ableism, ignorance & centrality of only neurotipicality in our society.

Fun Fact: The blue ring octopus has enough venom to kill twenty six adults in only a few minutes! The most terrifying part about it is that the octopus is so small that most people don’t realize they’ve been bitten so they don’t realize until the symptoms start kicking in and it’s too late. People either get bitten while their swimming/exploring but some people purposely pick up the octopus because of its pretty colors and because it looks so small and harmless.

Our lack of medical knowledge paired with little to no anesthetics left many doctors getting desensitized to other people's emotions and/or pain. In a more extreme case of this, some medical students would play around with the cadavers. Amputated limbs were hidden in random places around the school! An example of this is when a young boy peeked into a window of a classroom (I can't remember the name, only that it was in England) and was spotted by a student who was doing something with a cadaver. The student smiled at the boy, and raised the amputated arm of the body in a wave! I highly recommend the creator Kaz Rowe's video on this, because the niche bits of history they talk about are always interesting!

in regards to the vestibular dysfunction thing: i think for me it might be a combination of both! on one hand i stim by fidgeting, leg bouncing, rocking, etc. but on the other hand sometimes i’ll just get up & start walking around or dancing for no reason just bc i need that stimulation; i also like jumping off of stuff just bc it’s fun but i also CANNOT go on rollercoasters bc like they said, i will literally feel everything in my stomach moving (it’s similar for when we’re driving & we go down a steep hill too fast; i can feel my stomach drop when that happens). i also really like sitting in hammocks & rocking chairs just bc that repetitive motion is soothing for me…makes my brain feel all fuzzy

FUN FACT! for those of u who have never had a cast taken off, don’t be scared if getting it off! cast saws are unique to regular saws. though they look like circular saws they’re actually more similar to hand held ones, just automised. however in order not to damage the person, they only move back and forth a little bit. just enough to cut through the rigid plaster or whatever ur cast is made of, but when it gets to your skin/the cotton u have wrapped around ur arm, it just moves ur skin and cotton along with it. think of it like jello on a plate. if u try and move the plate with ur finger, it’s gonna move. if u try and move the jello, it’s just gonna slide to the spot then bounce back!
When I was 9 I broke two bones in one leg at the same time. Everytime I got the cast removed I screamed down the whole hospital. And yes, they look like circular saws and in order to make me less scared they showed me that the saw immediatley stops when it senses skin. I still screamed. Now I believe it was the sound that made me have a meltdown.
