People online (and in society) are using autism self diagnosis as an excuse for behaving badly and to make demands on other people to accommodate them in ways they really aren't entitled to, instead of getting a professional diagnosis and using it to better understand yourself so that you can take responsibility for the ways in which you contribute to your own problems and find some solutions to help you function better in the world. Completely different things. And frankly, what the online autism self diagnosers are doing really cheapens and makes a mockery of what those of us who actually do have autism suffer and go through.
Is there anyone doing research on ADHD and trans ID? There are twice as many kids with ADHD diagnosis than with ASD who identify as trans. In the gender clinic in Oslo, Norway, the percentage is around 17% with ADHD vs. 9% with diagnosed ASD. But everyone is focusing on autism, or put all the neurodivergent conditions together (including Tourettes) or label it "autistic traits", and than it reaches as much as 25-30% of the young patients. But why ADHD girls fall for transID? Hyperfixation? Impulsivness and impaired executive thinking? Anxiety and depression? Feeling of being different? Overlapping with autism?
I'm a mum of autistic boys, no dysphoria but can confirm the deep immersion in fantasy worlds. Minecraft (not online) has been the special interest and fantasy escape for years, and is also the safety zone when he is anxious. Also Harry potter, and Tolkien. It doesn’t have to be that tricky, once you know what to look for when it comes to autism in girls and women. Yes, masking is definitely a thing, however with that knowledge in mind and a bit of education on how autism is different in girls (not to mention in adult females) it should be easier to help those girls who so often fly under the radar. I was diagnosed in my late 30s, and I am now in my 40s. The psychologist that did my autism assessment specializes in autism (young adults and adults) and she was able to finally get the diagnosis right. After other psychologists being quick to wanting to give me all sorts of other diagnosis, from bpd, to depression, to generalized anxiety disorder, the list goes on. Getting my autism diagnosis was everything to me. My wish is that one day, doctors, psychologists, psychiatrists, teachers and other educators- and people in general will be well educated on autism, and especially autism in girls and adult females. - Anyway, I appreciate your guest, and I love listening/watching your podcast/video. ❤

I read an article about her or possibly some other woman who was like in her early 30s…it was insane, describing how she had breakfast that morning and said goodbye to her boyfriend and the doctors were coming by her house that afternoon to…well to kill her. I never tied it together with all of this but I just listened to an old episode about the Dutch gender clinics. That is terrifying because I can imagine it actually happening. At least Europe seems to be moving the opposite direction with the gender clinics at least..
I am sooooo relieved to hear what you ladies are saying. I got a Master's in Mental Health Counseling in 2010, and got my LPC at the same time, but my first job was a very bad experience due to my own personal health and family issues as well as issues with co-workers (plus I worked on an ACT team, with clients whose main treatment goal was to stay out of the hospital. I loved them, but the team members worked together more closely than usual co-workers, and for weird reasons, I didn't get supervision as a counselor and the team drama was very high.) Anyway, when I was let go, I couldn't talk about it, let alone go for a job interview without sobbing, and my license lapsed. One reason I didn't work harder to renew or maintain my license at the time was my fear of being fired or whatever for not supporting gender transition, especially for minors (not that I planned to work with adolescents, but I had been harassed for my conservative views at that first job, and I was afraid of being bullied again. So I am so glad to be hearing that even "non-conservatives" can see thru and argue against the *bs* about transgenderism wirh common sense. I always wonder about the evidence basis for "standard practices" that are too experimental to be called "evidence-based," which is always cited as the reason for certain types of therapy. There were so many things all 3 of you said that jive with my thinking, and I am feeling very encouraged about doing something in the social services field again, although I'm not sure what yet. I was dx'd with ADHD in my 50s and continued to resist the dx until I "saw" myself doing it in my early 60s. I have skills to offer!

My retreat from the main source of info ,X was not because of the subject matter but more so because of the collective rhetoric of factions. I will continue to look for calmer , curious and balanced voices and spaces like Genspect. It’s always a rich conversation and I find myself resonating with so much. Sashay’s comments on her reflections on a MH focus on trauma and emotions are also my thoughts and I remain curious about a non pathological model balancing on a need to understand how our emotions interact with our functioning. Importantly what is most useful and helpful to help people to thrive. The 64 million dollar question. Thanks for your presence , both of you. I saw a video of Stella’s obvious frustration with a continued targeting of her , a couple of weeks ago. The scientist Sapolsky was recently saying trans was innate, that men had a female brain and just matching the body to the brain. The podcast had comments turned off. He even admits it is a political stance and was happy to talk to someone of the same political view who lived outside California!. It would be good for these scientists to be challenged by other scientists.
I find it incredibly frustrating. I think I might have watched literally the same video. I've looked high and low for the studies he's referencing and come to the conclusion I've read them and they don't say what he exaggerates. Every single one shows ppl are closer to their sex but somehow the summaries or reports sometimes claim something else. Some of them are ludicrous where they say 50% of trans women have x compared to 46% of men. Or they take a computer that can't judge 12% of non-trans ppl correctly and use it to judge trans ppl and still all the trans ppl fall in the bell curve of their sex. I think they're actually closer to finding factors in being homosexual than being trans in their research. He also simultaneously states that male and female brains aren't a thing and that the trans stuff is only different in a very specific small number of areas. He also says it isn't his area of expertise. As if that wasn't obvious.

I'm half an hour in, and honestly Buttons just seems like she replaced one online trend over the other. She read some stuff online about autism, decided she might be autistic because it gave her explanations about all sort of her issues. Which is the same thing people do with trans. But I don't really hear anything she's talking about that she had issues with which doens't correspond with normative human experience? It may be partially that Buttons isn't great at expressing herself, but that's the feeling I got.
From what I understand about what she's saying is, she did receive an official diagnosis of Autism when she was 30. I don't believe she diagnosed herself. The process of going through a psych eval for Autism is a 6 hour process. I know this because I have 21-year-old twin girls, who were both diagnosed on the Autism spectrum as young children, luckily.
She literally said she carries sunglasses and earplugs with her everywhere she goes. If I’m reading your post correctly seems to imply she possibly isn’t autistic but then in this same post you say she has trouble expressing herself . I don’t know the literature off hand but I’m pretty sure flat affect, some sort of difficulty communicating and reading emotions, sensory difficulties like getting over stimulated in situations…I’m not at all trying to speak to her diagnosis but there were definitely a lot of autism clues there. Anyway, not hating on ya I just didn’t get the impression at all that she gave up one online trend for another. I mean she was never in the whole trans thing at all, she just said she could relate and that if she was growing up now she could see herself getting swept up in it.

I literally replayed one part of it where the presenter was grinning like a Cheshire Cat as he heard the first part of a sentence and couldn't help but frown as it was followed by something he didn't want to hear. It was a brief moment where he actually paid attention to what was said instead of just taking everything as backing him up.

This!!! I think it's so useful to be able to know that some of us are just a bit off kilter and that it's a human thing. I'm with you. I don't know where I fit. I don't know how old you are but I find it easier as I get older. Especially as things like being less bothered about being high flying or partying like crazy become more accepted, ha.

It's so difficult - gender identity is a thing because people say it is, and we need a phrase to talk about that - the longer I spend in this quagmire the more I realise language (English, at least!) just isn't equipped to deal with the level of wankery of this subject 😆
I'm pretty sure that she described it as a thing that some people believe they have and that other people don't believe exists, or at least doesn't exist for them.
The trans lobby are putting a brave face on this, not convinced Dr Cass is not mixing her faith in objective science with an acceptance that trans is some new unassailable truth.
The treatment center she was in sounds pretty traumatic, especially to someone on the autism spectrum!

She did not contact any of the "subjects" before cyber stalking, harassing, and doxxing them either. She wanted to cause them pain for having feelings she didn't approve of.

I'm half an hour in, and honestly Buttons just seems like she replaced one online trend over the other. She read some stuff online about autism, decided she might be autistic because it gave her explanations about all sort of her issues. Which is the same thing people do with trans. But I don't really hear anything she's talking about that she had issues with which doens't correspond with normative human experience? It may be partially that Buttons isn't great at expressing herself, but that's the feeling I got.
From what I understand about what she's saying is, she did receive an official diagnosis of Autism when she was 30. I don't believe she diagnosed herself. The process of going through a psych eval for Autism is a 6 hour process. I know this because I have 21-year-old twin girls, who were both diagnosed on the Autism spectrum as young children, luckily.
She literally said she carries sunglasses and earplugs with her everywhere she goes. If I’m reading your post correctly seems to imply she possibly isn’t autistic but then in this same post you say she has trouble expressing herself . I don’t know the literature off hand but I’m pretty sure flat affect, some sort of difficulty communicating and reading emotions, sensory difficulties like getting over stimulated in situations…I’m not at all trying to speak to her diagnosis but there were definitely a lot of autism clues there. Anyway, not hating on ya I just didn’t get the impression at all that she gave up one online trend for another. I mean she was never in the whole trans thing at all, she just said she could relate and that if she was growing up now she could see herself getting swept up in it.

@@goddessgirl5891 My boyfriend is also officially diagnosed with ASD. He doesn't consider himself autistic. He's not disordered, he doesn't struggle with life. He's not unusual. He's a very typical engineer, so he's very good at systematic thinking, that's all. ASD diagnosis is so broad, it lost all meaning.

That's kind of my point, the things she's describing are all normative experiences. Not being able to answer questions directly also isn't unique to autistic people. Unless we're arguing that any kind of overstimulation is a sign of having autism, but then we all must have it.
