Agree. All he did, was trying to stop card carrying communists from working in the state.
It was fully legal to still be communist, just not have a government job.
And since you needed to make a oath, to destroy the USA government, to get the communist party card, not having them working in government, seems like a good idea.

Considering the utter domination of the left progressive in academia, the bureaucracy, the main stream media, and in the business managerial class and the censoring of disparate thought in said institutions, I think the use of heretic is quite appropriate. Pointing out that "a million" right wing channels that have sprung up to challenge that reality actually disproves whatever point you're trying to make.
