My buddy asked me to quickly name 2 things that hold water...
I said- "Well, dam"
Sorry for the dad joke...
I see what you did there, well played my friend, well played indeed
I am stealing this to be used in an upcoming video
@@TheHumbleMarksman it would be an honor
Watching MPA go from making crappy .22lr and 9mm uzi clones and unreliable Leader T2 derivatives to now in 2024 where they are making one of the leading PRS bolt gun chassis' and extremely well made high end 2011's has been a wild few years.
From what I've seen, they bought CK Arms who sell "budget" competition guns. They even make open guns for under 5k.
I received mine in September 2023. Outside of some limited frustration with dealing with Phil, the gun has functioned flawlessly.
What issues? I am planning to order
Phil can be a bit of a dick and his personal demeanor is prickly. I've had some of the same expierences as Veil.
"Actually", there is another option out there that offers a stainless steel grip for less than the MPA... Vudoo Gun Works Priest. The aggressive steel grip only adds $110 to the $3195 base price. All optioned out as a Limited Optics pistol... full length dust cover, XL magwell, steel grip, hand blended safeties, lightened trigger job, flush cut barrel, etc, a Priest would cost around $3600.
He has that pistol and did a review of it before.
@@True_Patriotx Somewhat true, yes. His version of the Priest however, is a standard build with the short dust cover, aluminum grip, small magwell, slim safeties, standard trigger weight, etc.
I wish they have shielded thumbs safety
To be honest is easiest to reach out to MPA than Vudoo.
Good review!
Here after LO nats, the LOC definitely showed out.
Got mine 2 weeks ago, after about 24 weeks waiting....... Totally worth the wait. I am in love with it. and expecially love the porupine S3 grip.
After receiving my Vudoo priest with 2lb trigger job, fldc and direct mounted optic, I’d say it smokes this especially for the money. I own an Infinity, Venom and Atlas and I’d say I shoot just as well with the Vudoo Priest. Which is crazy.
Thanks for your reviews on all weapons… I showed a friend your Canik videos and I convinced him to get one… great job and Dads keeps being Dads!!!
I’m dadding so much harder because of all of your dad jokes! Thanks for them. Keep it up.
My current Limited Optics gun!! Absolutely love it!!
I have a new MPA Open gun and the build quality is stunning. I say that having had full-on-hide-the-receipt-from-the-wife Open guns in the past. The fact that they are available at a reasonable (for 2024) price makes getting one of these a clear win. I do agree with you on the grip. Do not choose the super aggressive model. The regular aggressive one is more than enough.
Makes me super excited for my MPA!!!! Got a MPA open gun on the way and now I’m even more excited than I was before.
My wife sad after my XC, C2, and platty that I can’t have anymore. I don’t compete, I just like nice things.
Vudoo Priest has a steel grip option for a little less than this one FYI.
How does it shoot? Does the RDS sit low?
@19Clutch69 I would say they are pretty much on par. The MPA is definitely more race oriented with how it runs and with the trigger. The optic mounting is better on the priest but in the same breath optic height isn't something you can't train past. Grip and magwell is better on the MPA as well.
@@jacrispy9603i have the aggressive priest and it felt very similar to the MPA, and the trigger on mine is sub 2 pounds. I absolutely love it
@@Icabueno yeah they are so close its really more of an aesthetic choice! My MPA just "feels" a little better than the priests I've played with... whatever that really means idk haha
@@jacrispy9603 Priest is cheaper by about $500, you can get it with a comp trigger. I really see zero reason to ever get the MPA over the Priest.
Sounds great and the pistol looks fantastic but I can tell you from experience you are better off buying a different custom pistol. I spent the significant dollars on the pistol and it has never run right. I shipped it back multiple times and they never did fix it. It currently sits at another gunsmith getting fixed so I can MAYBE feel confident taking it to match.
That’s the accuracy x multi sight system. That blank is in the slot for a space filler. They have all kinds of front sights, optic plates and iron sights you can run on it.
I love a good dad joke, but I don't even have kids. You could say I'm something of a faux pa.
I never thought I'd see the day where you said a grip had TOO much bite! I just found a shop with a week old Hybrid in stock and ordered it - largely due toyour reviews of the DS9. This video just makes me even more stoked to get my hands on it!
Gun reviews are awesome… Not going to lie I come mainly for the Dad jokes. TY!!!
I have one and it is up there with my Atlas’s. Love the MPA LOC
Looks like I have a new gun to buy for christmas. Thanks guys.
I'm living my bougie gun dreams vicariously through you. That being said I cant wait for your tisas ds9 review (hopefully the nightstaker variant).
If this thing really weighs 51 oz I’m out of luck even if I wasn’t broke, because any pistol over 50 oz is a banned “assault weapon” where I live.
I know your pain.
I'm probably the minority here but a 4lb, 4k pistol just isn't necessary. Heavier does not equate to better
I would try and get hands on one and understand first hand how it affects you - I didn’t expect to like it as much as I do
Sweet! Pistol. Love how HEAVY it is. I love a nice HEAVY full metal pistol
Awesome gun!
Marksman! I need a video on the V2 of this now, with the sightblock. Was literally about to buy one of these, and then saw their instagram post. Please!
I saw that last night - I pinged them to see if they'll be able to send one out.
I think you told the fly joke recently 😂
4 sure
Phil is a Genius ... Love MPA
Why are we still dealing with plate systens?
You either direct cut your gun for the RMR/Holosun footprint and maybe have the additional holes for mounting a DPP and call it an universal footprint, or it's a duty gun and you go for the Acro rail thing.
0:08 the sound of @thehumblemarksman climaxing
Let me order this!! I own the MPA DS9 Hybrid night as well get this as well.
Id say there is such a thing as too heavy.
Used to shoot my shadow 2 with brass grips, just for balance more then weight. But then i ve done some drills with aluminium grips vs brass head to head and while brass feel better the accuracy is the same and im faster with lighter gun even if its muzzle heavy.
I am definitely the Johnny putting a $600.00 gun in the gun safe every year, kind of guy.
Laughs with 16+1 of 10mm 1911 Rock island tac ultra with rail 😂🤠
Laughs in superior craftsmanship
How does the LOC stack up vs the Priest?
JEEZ, That thing has three pedals...where's the shifter. LOL SICK
Just bought one today, holy shit that thing is a cheese grater. I have some really tough hands that I will tell you that the aggressive grip is like squeezing a cactus.
Once I move out of this hell hole state , MPA is next on my list.
I was about to order an LOC when I heard MPA was working on a single port comped pistol (i.e. Staccato XC or Apache). Have you heard anything about this? Which platform would you prefer for a range toy?
They have a ported IDPA gun
Not the ported barrel; Phil Cashin had an interview with Big Johnson where he said a new compensated pistol will be coming out in the “near future.” 4.25” slide with a 5” barrel / integrated compensator
@@mco8061I watched that interview. I was under the impression he was talking about a carry gun. I emailed MPA about it. They said they have several new guns in the works but would not give me a timeline first their release
@@yngzaklynch we’ll see if my patience can hold out that long lol
Thanks for the info 👍🏽
You can get some aggressive grips like this for your tanfo from Patriot defense.
Do a review of the Masterpiece Arms MAC-10 looking thing. Better yet, review dual wielding two of them.
Between this and the Laugo Arms Alien Limited Optic, which one do you recommend for USPSA LO?
Quick question, I just got into IDPA and USPSA, and I wanted to ask you what like to zero your dot at? Thanks for the advice. I love the channel.
BTW, two cannibals are eating a clown, and one cannibal says to the other cannibal does this taste funny to you?
I like to zero for 25 yards - the displacement is lower at 10 then zeroing at 10 and shooting 25
@@TheHumbleMarksman Thanks brother keep up the good work.
Big Panda cameo on 1:16!
Yup! He came to Texas to be cold wet and miserable
At least the Alien sort of justifies its price by being a rather unique gun. This is just a 2011, built to its best specifications, in a market flooded with equally priced 2011s.
Have you ever considered doing the American Psycho business card scene, but for 2011 guys?
I just got mine, great firearm. But, I need to modify my grip to manage the rear area of the magwell. Did you have any discomfort?
no I'm pretty used to 2011 mag wells.
My 6” Infinity weighs more than this beast, and frankly my arms get tired from holding it up and out in front of me, but I’m almost 70.
If you had to pick one, this or the new Bul Limited Optics guns? Not considering price difference
I havne't had a chance to play with the new Bul LO gun - I've heard they made some updates to it over the Air that make it nicer - but I haven't tried it. The LOC is pretty legit
@TheHumbleMarksman There is a LOC in stock for sale for 3200. I'm looking to get my first real LO pistol. I just hate how high the optic sits. Maybe have someone mill it?
What would you do?
Is there enough meat on the slide to send it out and have it milled down further so the optic sits lower it?
What do you call a magic owl?
HOODINI
Cordles hole puncher!!!!!!!!!! That’s hilarious!!!!!
Lort jebus glad I built my 2011 w/ map grip 4 under 2500$
Hey big man, I know it may not be your thing but an idea for content may be how to improve on a 1911 platform. I enjoy the channel greatly but 1911s draw a crowd and may give the channel a boost and it could turn out to be a fun side adventure for you and us as well. I’d appreciate it anyway. How to improve on a platform off the shelf etc with your usual humor and balanced pragmatism
Just a friendly suggestion- be well
There are 3 options for the grip texture from least to most aggressive on the moa site. I wonder which one this is?
What gun are you going to build out for limited optics?
🇺🇸
Telling dad jokes is one thing but telling dad jokes you’ve recently already told is meta dad level stuff.
The video equivalent of driving off with your drink on the roof of the car
The prices on these guns crack me up. If you have the coin go for it but wonder how much customer support / parts will be available in a few years ?
It’s a 2011 - the parts will be made indefinitely for another gunsmith to service if MPA stops being a thing
@@TheHumbleMarksman. If i ever get into the 4's and 5k's and beyond for a 1911 or 2011 its Nighthawk for me haha 🤣
Aluminum frame needs a tungsten mag well.
jk tungsten mag wells are insanely expensive
just to clear the possible confusion, thats about 9 bananas or half a leg
Muscle daddy got some beefcake arms
Built a staccato XL with a cheely “aggressive” grip.
I couldn’t tolerate the “extra aggressive”
Skin is left on the grip after a day of shooting 😂
And my hands are super rough
Steel cheely magwell on my XL
Without the cheely grip and having the stock grip on it how do you like the xl? I have an xc and was thinking about grabbing an xl for limited optics, if you have an xc how does the xl compare to xc? I'm in a toss up between this new dsp loc or the staccato xl
I built my XL for limited optics also.
It was still a fantastic pistol with the stock grip and a 2.5 ish lb trigger.
1 MOA SRO..
I don’t have an XC but have worked on and shot several. I have a Watchtower Apache Pew View with an aggressive cheely E2 stainless grip.
The XL is just as flat shooting and actually more accurate. Where it differs is the cyclic rate is slower than the shorter 4.6” ish slides of the XC and Apache.
The cheely “carry” magwell doesn’t work with staccato 17rd base plates. Atlas base plates do work.
The large cheely magwell will only for 140+mm mags with short baseplates
I've been saying for a whole that any of these bull barreled front heavy guns tungsten mag wells would be awesome.
A Harbor Freight ball peen hammer will knock down the sharp edges of a high-dollar custom gunsmith grip to better accommodate delicate hands. Or so I've heard.
Did you keep the DS9 with the Butler Cut?
Yes
Just don't get the S3 grip level it's insanity, no one needs that much of an aggressive texture.
Speak for yourself 😂
1:29 for the scale weight
Is that grip the s2 or s3 texture grip?
I honestly don't recall.
Hi David, i ordered my ds9 hybrid and am wondering if you know who has an extended mag release?. I see mpa doesn't have them. Thanks David!.
I have a hard time with extended releases - most of them get into my support hand and I drop mags. I asked them and they sent me one to play with - I think it’s a double tap one - but I ultimately couldn’t make it work with my grip
@TheHumbleMarksman Thanks!.That is one of my concerns.I don't want to drop mags and add to my time,i just don't have large hands. My hands are probably in the middle somewhere.
What do you mean by the slide can be improved by eliminating the need to “deal with front plate.” What exactly is there to “deal” with? The front plate just sits there unobtrusively and without any impact on its performance. Dude, there is nothing to “deal” with! Why fix a problem that simply does not exist? At least with the existing front plate design, those of us that enjoy shooting irons can continue to do so. I’m a big fan of this great channel, but that was very puzzling comment. Hope you elaborate.
You logic is “mill front sight fill with blank plate forget” my logic is “ don’t mill front sight on optic gun”
@@TheHumbleMarksmanNope it’s not a “forget” ……it’s an ignore. This feature gives the gun more flexibility. Iron sights are still a thing. And you still haven’t explained why getting rid of the front plate “improves” the slide.
The one gun I’ve consistently look forward to shooting. Then… you said it was “slick as snot” … I now overthink how snot isn’t slick and is sticky… you’ve ruined this gun for me 😂😂😂
depends how you're using the snot and how fresh it is.
Isn’t that the third video with that same dad joke😂
Dad joke has already been used by you. Such a dad thing to do...
The safties are made by Double Tap
They don’t quite match my double tap safeties
I guess that doesn’t mean they didn’t do an OEM run for MPA
The older ones had double tap safeties the new ones have MPA ones that are made in house
Do you know any vegetable jokes: if you do lettuce know
Feel free to use it as yours are so bad 😂
Balance doesn't matter in a USPSA gun. Consider what happens to an Open gun as you shoot it. It starts with 30 rounds, each weighing 197gr (I just weighed one), for a total ammo weight of 5910gr or ~13.5oz. All of that weight is inside your hand, moving the balance point to the rear. As you shoot it, that weight disappears, moving the balance point towards the muzzle.
The question is, *do you notice this* while shooting a 30-round CoF? Of course not!
The distribution of mass certainly matters. We put bull barrels, long dust covers, tungsten guide rods, etc in our race guns for good reason. But static *balance* does not matter.
That’s a pedantic breakdown of the point I am making - the native weight of the gun and its balance characteristics
@@TheHumbleMarksman I don't think it is. You frequently comment on guns that balance nicely right over the trigger guard. This is a common point of praise in reviews and has been for decades (online and in print). And it just doesn't matter!
If you want to praise the gun just for being heavy, or for having a lot of forward weight, then just say that. But you said the opposite, that nose-heavy is in the way out. Which is it?
I'm not criticizing for internet troll points or whatever. This is a pet peeve because people talk about balance CONSTANTLY without thinking about how it supposedly matters. It doesn't matter at all!
Ok - there is what I’m saying it means when I say it - which is how the gun - unloaded naturally balances - where that center of balance is. You are misrepresenting what I am saying to mean fully loaded because it suits a point you’d like to make.
To me - it sounds like you’re tilting at windmills.
so for this gun I would say please put your Nature Baby Organic Cotton Scratch Mitten on j/k lol
👍
3:48 bro had trouble racking it by grabbing the rear of the slide. Nice save, though.
lol I was wiggling to test for fit - but I don’t rack from the rear anyway - with an optic I just use the optic
D
Still a 9mm . Who cares.
