How manipulating balance IMPROVES stability

- Shooting rapid fire exposes a poorly balanced gun through bad hits. What if we could optimize the balance of a handgun so that it has improved stability at speed?

NB4; No, we are not making brass Deagle grips. Also, full send on the Deagle 50AE in USPSA!
Not only shoud you run a DE in a USPSA match, you should run it in Limited 10 at Nationals!
Ammo not that expensive considering you'll jam out, early.
As said(ish) by the great Vinne Jones, “The fact that my gun says Desert Eagle .50 on the side should precipitate your b@lls into shrinkage…”
you know that clip will be stolen for the video
And yours says REPLICA.
I can literally hear the typewriter sound effects in movie as I read this
Here for the future Deagle .50 content!
Same
Do the Desert Eagle challenge!
I'm the owner of W74 Guide Rods. You all whipped me out of tungsten batteries. I won't have restock until around June 10th...sorry.
good work boys - now buy all his guide rods!
I admit that I leave my comment just to see you d'eagle around in a uspsa match - but you received my like because of the work you have put in your video
Thanks for the recognition, and thanks for the Dad joke. I’m hanging on to that one. Gotta embarrass my kids somehow!
I've tried this experiment with the Taylor Freelance brass backstrap on my CZ P10F. Totally changes the gun.
Brass grips make a huge difference on plastic guns in my experience. The P10F feels great with them
Have the Taylor Freelance backstrap on my TP9 Elite SC, huge change in the feel and balance, id recommend it to anyone
They just come in one backstrap size, right?
@@onpsxmember yeah, medium
Yeah it is the same size at the medium@@onpsxmember
Great vid! That SureFire light was definitely wobbling! Every quick-attach light mount has failed for me, so I stick with the tried and true thumbscrew.
Would love to see a Deagle video!
Wobbling and sliding 😂
Thanks for the content. Your channel always has something I'm interested in
I love my Canik Rival S. One has the medium weight Lok brass grip, with W74 tungsten guide rod with 12lb. recoil spring run 147gr. Fenix ammuntion and have brass magwell. My other Rival S has W74 tungsten guide rod with 12lb. recoil spring, lok brass magwell and Mag-mo Edge grip which is a total GAME CHANGER!! That grip is amazing my favorite by far. Traction/grip you get with Mag-mo edge grip combine that with the extra weight is amazing!!! Love your videos!!! Cha-Cha- Ching
David this is awesome content that no one else is making. Keep it up.
Great video, I appreciate the effort this required!
Glad you enjoyed it! These are a pain to edit
@@TheHumbleMarksman Yes they are and often more range time too than a regular review might need. Then after all of that there will be at least a few viewers upset when you don't tell them what would be best for them. It's interestinng stuff though. When I did all those doublestack 1911s I found it interesting to see how the weight distribution differed from one to the next, but since they were also all differently built it was tough to see if it was weight distribution or other qualities impacting my shoting experience.
This is a great topic that doesn't get enough conversation. I see people decking out their pistols with crazy Light/Optic combos and you can see in the range videos the weapons jumping all over in different ways that don't look good. The worst I have seen was a Beretta APX compact with Steiner optic the size of a mailbox. He was getting hits, but the heel rocking motion was crazy. I don't see the good in it.
Deagle.... Deagle.... DEAGLE!! DEAGLE!!!
Very interesting video. Always like the way you break things down.
I shoot a lot more air pistols than powder. Balance is paramount to accuracy. And even ease of use. I don't even have any target pistols. Just several high end hunting/hobby models and even some fully custom.
Shocking how much that light moved around. Also the DE in USPSA is fantastic.
Thanks for all the data!
David, I recently ran a G34, G17 and G19 back to back. Same triggers. All three had minimal felt recoil. The shocking thing for me was the G17 had the worst impulse. It seemed to make the front sight oscillate more. The G34 was better but the clear winner was the G19. It was the easiest to get quick, accurate hits with by a noticeable margin.
Glocks don’t weigh a lot
@@TheHumbleMarksman Exactly, so minor changes in slide weight and the placement of that weight should be more noticeable. All I’m theory but that’s how it’s played out for me. Glad you’re doing more of these videos.
@@JA-oo9qpFeel the same about the amplified front sight oscillation - front sight disturbance. It becomes more prominent when I shoot bullseye at a distance.
The G19 (for Gen 3 at least) has a different palm swell profile compared to the G17 and G34 (3rd gens). I shoot the 19 better because of the ergo even though I do find the gun snappier.
@@MrNgMichael Yeah, I like the feel of the G17/34 grip in the hand more, but the G19 definitely performs better for me. No G45 experience, so who knows how much slide vs grip is playing a role in my case.
The strangest part is the G34 also performed better, so I assume it must have something to do with slide weight/balance making the pistol track easier for me. Splits below .20 are not a problem with any of them but the targets reflect my feelings of the G17 having less predictable/repeatable tracking in my hands.
I just added aluminum Lok grips and magwell to my CZ S2 and it almost shoots like a different gun in a good way. More weight in the rear helped me get sights on target much quicker than before.
I've had the best luck using the sprinco guide rod system for my Walther pdp & glock 17 & 19. Extremely reliable even when pushing the envelope of power factor.
Alright, I'm in. If you do the match with a DE in Texas I'll even show up to cheer that on!!!
Here to add to these numbers!
Thanks HM
It's good timing that you came out with this video. I've previously been shooting a glock 17 with a surefire x300 at matches. I found that the gun was not good at speed and felt like it strained my wrists. At first, i thought it was the grip angle, but after flattening the hump i had the same issue. After watching some of your videos, you kept mentioning that weight in the grip is important. That's when I realized how front heavy I had made my gun. I started experimenting at the range without the wml and shot a match yesterday without it and came to a couple of conclusions. 1. The strain on my wrists was the leverage that the front heaviness was creating. 2. The gun recoiled more without the wml, but the recoil was much more consistent, and i could settle the gun faster. 3. The gun swung a lot better between targets without the light. The best way i can describe it, is that the wml recoil was unstable as it came back down. It caused the gun to almost bob on the downstroke, which caused shots to go lower and have more side to side deviation.
the thug plug from GlockStore If found does a good job balancing the Glock.
You found what all of us that came from steel frame guns that bought Glocks noticed. This was especially noticeable with 40 and 45.
@TheHumbleMarksman I flattened the hump on my frame so the thug plug won't fit anymore. Im looking into tungsten shot/putty to fill the void.

Good stuff brother 👍
Another great video!!!
Make it happen... also still need to pick up a few caniks myself with these new offerings.
Absolutely here for the degal!
It's interesting to me, because currently I'm running a very very nose heavy gun and it's actually showing a lot better behavior at speed. Then again my TLR1 is torqued down to the point you need a tool to remove it, and it's a g34 size upper on a Glock 19 size grip that's stippled to the point it is actively reprofiling my hand if I put more than 150 rounds down at a time XD
You praised the brass grips a lot but preferred the G10 grips + tungsten guide rod in the end. What can be concluded here? That a 50/50 weight balance is a good way to go? Slight front weight bias (tungsten guide rod) is a good thing? But you also mention the Sig moves around less with the brass grips. Sounds like weight balance/performance ratios are different from gun to gun...? Not trying to be overly critical, you're the only guy on YT getting this nerdy and I appreciate your efforts.
On that note, I really wanted to see any benefits from the LOK brass backstrap I tried on my PDP... but couldn't find any. I found the gun's recoil impulse was even sharper with it (something to be said about polymer's shock absorption?)and having 4 oz. extra weight at the butt of the gun didn't affect much at al as far as tracking, return to zero, etc. Maybe that's not a surprise but some people make it sound like brass backstraps are the second coming of Jesus or something. Anyway, keep up the good work and sharing your observations 👌
I like G10 for looks but also texture - it got me a fat grip without turning into a complete boat anchor
Go for it!
Looking forward to seeing the DE 50 video!
Rock the Desert Eagle! Years ago (when it was still legal) a father and son duo brought Desert Eagles to the IPSC Australia nationals. They weren't the most competitive, but they had a ridiculous amount of fun
Recoil isn't that bad, it's much more of a long heavy push than a nasty snap due to the sheer weight, gas system, long slide travel and duel recoil springs. The main challenge is getting a feel for the handling and how it likes to be held in order to run it fast.
I competed with a metal frame gun that... despite having little felt recoil, it always felt bouncy and like I couldn't get it to track right back to where I shot. I then gave my Glock 34 that I had in the safe a chance, and have noticed it tracks better. The recoil isn't unmanageable, but the tracking and crispness of the slide feels much better.
Good stuff thanks
Full send on the Desert Eagle. Soon to be known as the DEAGLE CHALLENGE!
You tempted for the DE competition
that would be fun to watch.
Good luck with that!!!
Definitely would love to see a match with the DE.
DE pain for the win big man! On gun balance I am still trying to find my happy place. I appreciate the broscience contribution.
looking forward for the DE video :D
I’ve run the gamut on this myself….with the Rival S even. I run a WML for work and thought I’d try it for USPSA for consistency sake. It just didn’t work. If felt like on longer and tighter shots it took longer for the sights/dot to settle sufficiently. Running the LOK G10 grips and a steel guide rod now. Gun comes back on target nice and consistently now.
That's one thing that is cool about the Wilson Combat grip module for P365 having the weights... I'm sure it would balance out more with a tungsten guide rod
Need that deagle video!
Definitely want to see the D.E. in a competition.
W74 tungsten batteries are a game changer.
I have these batteries for sale if anyone wants them
You’re doing it for sure
Great vid... interesting results. Please put that Deagle to the test.
I would love to see that.
I really like my usp expert 9 with jet funnel. I use the black 18 round mags that have a metal liner. Those mags are not cheap, but they weigh 2oz more than the white mags. It's really the only way to add weight to the back of the gun. But it shoots like a dream.
Fellow USP enjoyer, do you have the V1, or some kind of LEM trigger?
Nice comparison video. Heck yea! Deserts Eagle time. 😎🤘
W74 product announcement!!! Tungsten grip panels!!!
What a timely video, I was thinking about buying the brass grips for my 92G LTT, they make my CZ 75B 41 oz (+9 oz) and it actually recoils nicer than a shadow 2 in terms of tracking. I am not sure what the 5 oz grips would do for the 92G LTT but I am just finding an excuse not to buy a 92 performance, I just love my 92G so much and don't like some things how they configured the 92xp. I don't run a WML either but it seems that they are so far below the pistol that they make it less stable. Think about when you lift weights, the further they are out from the core of your body, the more strength it requires to keep the same stability.
I’m doing my part for the DE uspsa
Glad i never got rid of my old 75 shadow, have never been able to quantify what you're talking about but felt that an S2 never felt quite "right"
You have me dying on this Desert Eagle endeavor. DO IT!
Dude, buy the Eagle. I was at the range yesterday with my SVI Infinity 6” chambered in .40, and it weighs exactly four pounds with loaded magazine. I still get a muzzle rise and sore elbows and shoulders, but I’m 70 . No rail, no optic, but it’s a fine shooter. Best Regards David.
Here for the Deagle dumbness but goodluck! Good info thanks for the unique content.
You know what we want!
Do it, sir. DO IT!
I have the Rival sfx S with the Wasatch Arms compensator, mecanik M02 optic, inforce Wild 2 light, Lok aluminum grips and Century Arms thumb rest, which results in a 56 ounce weight, including an empty mag and a +3 mag extension. This shoots with a very tame recoil, almost as good as my Staccato XC and Beretta 92x Performance (configured to 56 ounces) and about the same as my CZ Shadow 2 (configured to 53 ounces).
Oh wow the bonus P365 slow-mo was cool. You could really see the brass grip'd gun settling much quicker after the slide goes forward
Really!? I watched that section several times and couldn’t see any difference in the muzzle rise or time back to target.
@@atomicsmith The muzzle rise and return time aren't different, but look at the oscillations in the guns after they return to target. The brass'd gun has much smaller oscillations.
I run the W74 guide rods, Springer Precision brass, open magwells and TLR1 lights on my X5’s. They come in around 52 ounces (the X5 works really well here). Next, I may try the Shooting Sports Innovations tungsten slugs (damn expensive).
DE in competition wearing Miami Vice clothing. That would make a statement and you would be a legend!!
I’ve always wanted to run a 50AE in a match. I’ve also thought it would be fun to have a match where everyone shoots hi-points.
USPSA with the ultimate villain sidearm would be crazy
Desert eagle for the win. Great content as usual!
We had a guy shoot an indoor IDPA match with a DE .50, it was ridiculous. Even more ridiculous was that he was appendix carrying it.
lol someone makes an appendix holster for deagles. Love it.
Here for the deagle. Lol i would love to see that as goofy as it would be.
Gotta see that 50ae run!
in for the Deagle video
Yes I want this match with DE
You gotta do a talk through over your 50ae match footage.
O yea! I want to see you rock the desert eagle in a uspsa match. Also we want to see high hit factor scoring.
I’m here for the DE challenge for sure
Want to see you run the DE!
I can’t believe this is the video you put out. I just got the rival s and have competed with it and was wondering if the lok brass is a worthwhile upgrade.
Also I have to see you run a match with a shorts and a tang top and a desert eagle 😂
I'm here for the desert eagle... and also to learn , I'm trying to get better at shooting
I totally wanna see you shoot a match with the DE
Commenting for the 50AE - do it please!!
W74 doesn't have any for the pistols I want tungsten guide rods in. I'll keep shopping around, but a good lead. Thanks man.
Waiting for the .50 AE Deagle video!
The Science has spoken.
We must all now follow the science!
Do it, do it now!
Love me some T-G-Rods!
Do et. I once entered a pot luck 3 gun with a 45-70, a over under shot gun, and 629 smith.
Awesome video! Would love to see an updated glock one with fancy video equipment now. Yes the x300a lights do have the tendency to bounce around. I've noticed this a long time ago and no matter what key you put in it's not as sturdy as the B with the thumb screw. So I'm curious if that would have made any difference in this test?
I would love to see the same test with a P320X5 legion with and without a SureFire X 300
Do it! Do it! Do it!
The wobbling light was the first thing I noticed, I use a quick attach light that has a spring loaded clip to hold the rail and I bet that thing would wobble twice as much as the one in the video. I’ve never liked weapon lights anyway, I feel like I would be hidden in the dark until I turn on that light. Then I have exposed myself and my position. I’ll throw that quick mount light in the trash or mount it on a BB gun or something.
Let's see it sir
You gotta get that deagle!
Another amazing video brother, I just recently purchased a Rival-S. What recoil spring weight were you running?
18 to be close to stock
Subscribed, liked, and comment just for the desert eagle match.
Do the challenge!
The last time I shot a Desert Eagle 50AE every piece of brass ejected straight into my forehead which explained why the guy that let me shoot it had a wool watch cap pulled down to eye level. I wondered why he was wearing it in the summer. First and last time; they are a handful!
Went shooting with Tim Pool did you? lol
I run the W74 guide rod and a 29 newton striker spring on my Canik rival gray and thought it helped flatten out muzzle flip, also would like to see you run the DE in 50ae
I’m just commenting to see the USPSA match with the DE😂 thank you for doing the research I can’t afford to do
