- Harley-Davidson’s new Serial 1 electric bikes are coming, and we got one of the first test rides. The bikes are gorgeous, with a clean, non cluttered design and an impressive spec sheet. And they are an absolute joy to ride. But are they worth $5,000?

Do you think these bikes are worth the money?
Nope 🌝
No
No way.
Definitely not
We all know it , its a big NO
"and a design that is unmistakably Harley Davidson"... Me: huh?
Its the verg , what did you expect lol
Huh ??????
Even from the thumbnail, it is nowhere near what a typical Harley would look like
Looks more like Black & Decker.
I mean, they look alright but they just look like ebikes lol.
"This E-Bike rolls with the unmistakable swagger of a Harley"
Am I doing this right guys?
You're doing great pal.
The way that eBike silently rolls down the road with a genteel manner exudes the unmistakable swagger of a Harley-Davidson
You can park it with the Panheads and Evolutions at the clubhouse and still be a Harley rider ...
'Unmistakenly Harley Davidson' someone just copy pasted the press release to his script.
He got wined and dined
Swagger of unmistakanly riding a Harley Davidson
You can see the resemblance
Looks unmistakably a promotion
@@lucaherman6227 yep, might be in the contract too. Obviously Harley would prefer positive reviews when they're doing so poorly financially and I don't blame em.
Id stick to my $99 bicycle.... At least i wont get mugged for it.
I'll be pulling up with my angle grinder come release day lol
You clearly didn't read the sticker.
I've had the same cycle since the 90s :D
Ye, that's my fear lol. A motorcycle automatically makes it difficult to steal unless you know how to ride but a bicycle? Oof.
1:10 what is so unmistakably Harley-Davidson about its design?
The logo duh
@@ajnart_ also the number of wheels
Looks just like a regularisering bike ?
The script he got 😂
@@textjoint damn didn't notice that !
Should have talked about any anti-theft gimmicks since you're filming in NYC
No such thing exist
Oy theft deterrent
Never thought I’d see this, looking forward to a new generation of quiet biker gangs
You should watch "Long Way Up"
@@tbz1551 The show where they built a bus to haul the HD electric bikes
So, Harley completely missed an opportunity to make a very good looking vintage-style electric bike, a sort of e-bike Cafe racer design. Instead *it looks indistinguishable from everything else on the road*
Yes. But $2500 more.
Yeah, real disappointing
You know whats Hot? Your CPU
This sounds too much like a paid advertisement.
It is , they just don't disclose here that they got it for free . So its technically not a paid video .
Thats Verge for you
Is your Com puter still working?
Man, good bike but so over-priced, these things will be impossible to keep from being stolen. I'm buying stock in a bolt-cutter company.
Nah, any decent ebike is around 4 grand my dude.. and some over 10k. Harleys price seems pretty affordable given it's freaking Harley and we all know how overpriced they are.
Does it even have an anti-theft feature like cheaper e-bikes out there have? Guess not...
CVT on a bicycle. Whoa im impressed.
They have existed for a while, years. They were invented by and are made by NuVinci. They are considerably less efficient however, meaning pedaling effort is wasted as heat in the drive train, the same rider on a fixed gear system could pedal harder and longer in comparison, though that is not that big an issue on ebikes and short range commuters. But together with the high price, it means sport cyclists won't use them, and commuters looking to NOT spend a fortune won't either, making them decidedly niche. They are damn cool devices tho, and becoming more common together with ebikes in general, as people seem more prepared to spend on electric bikes.
@@MentalEdge wow. Thank you for the nice explanation
Does this require a table for assembly?
harley davidson is trying to save their company by selling stuff do a different demographic that would never buy a harley
Their customer base is dead in a few decades.
Sooo.... Running a business?
@@specialist-in-tech sure sure
Damn them for trying to make a product people want to buy in order to stay in business. They should follow your orders and continue to go out of business forever by making only large cruisers that less people are buying. Good idea buddy.
Well, you guys are better at riding bikes than you are at building computers.
Americans have a lot to learn from dutch bike makers
I can't imagine an American wanting a bike
Damn you guys are slaying us.
nope, it's the other way around
especially wrt e-bikes.
no we don't cause we don't care about dutch bike makers.
@@xers8719 u better make a heated toilet
Harley Davidson and Electric Bikes, those are two things I never thought I'd see together.
AFAIK they have been making electric motorcycles for a while, so this does sorta make sense.
@@MentalEdge Oh that's interesting, I've always associated them with those big loud bikes
@@MentalEdge no they haven't. They have been working on an electric motorcycle since 2013 they hadn't perfected the Livewire since just last year and it's the only electric motorcycle they have
These are nice I love that the wires ect are hidden my current is a nakto not too happy with it after seeing your video 👍
Does the iPad new keyboard work for the 12.9 2017 inch?
(Sorry for the random question)
What are you doing step-thru??
Thnks for sharing Team Verge✌
I couldn't help to notice that the riders in most of the clips are not used to pedalling - they use the middle of the sole to push the pedal, and their knees are bent too much, meaning they will get sore muscles very quickly. This means that the bikes are not properly adjusted. Disappointingly sloppy.
I saw these at the bike shop today in Central Oregon. They are definitely sleek and just a pleasure to look at definitely a future purchase of mind.
These will be stolen like hot cakes especially with a price tag like that.
Your comment gave me a lot to think about. Like are hot cakes really stolen so often? Who's stealing them and to what end? What if they cool down first? Does their value decrease?
@@snowballeffect7812 Bruh!😂😂😂😂
A lot of the reason for the birth of many of the biker gangs around the world forming was that people stole Harleys so it’s a nice continuation.
I love watching the things that I can’t afford! 😅😂
was it pre assembled
So if you don't pedal it doesn't move? Also what's the range?
Pretty sharp IMO.... But as expected, a little high priced. Personally, I'd go with a different brand/model for about $1400-1600.
I would not spend more than that for ANY electric bike, so I'm not their target audience. 🤷🏼♂️
Hemiway Cruiser 1599
Wow. Super cool. I really want one. Wish it was more affordable
Yeah... My (old) 100hp motorcycle cost 3k
What cyclist is going to want to go to a Harley dealership? lol
If the CVT transmission automatically finds the correct gear ratio - continuously - can you explain why it takes some time for a rider to adapt to this?
i think it's programmable to your liking, if I'm not mistaken. I read somewhere. I want one, but CVT is also the hold off for me.
Yay Let's Get the Bike Adventure Party Started!!! 🙌🙌🙌
I think the real question is to be a true harley-davidson, can they make them obnoxiously loud?
@Yoko LOL
I was going to suggest not oiling the bearings. But Yoko makes a good point.
You simply remove one part and it doubles in loudness
Very good review
The cranks seem very short. What's up with that? Not good for longer distance, smooth feel riding. Like a coffee grinder...
With this price tag, you can go for Honda PCX 150cc which is phenomenal for fun and going around...
Do they make a lot of noise for no reason like their motorcycles?
Gives a whole new meaning to "Harley Knuckle Head"..
Only a Knuckle Head at Harley would think this is a cool idea!..
Where is the jacket from?
Yeah Im imagining the Venn diagram of people who care about the Harley brand AND are in the market for an ebike. That literally has to be TENS of people.
Hahah exactly 23.2 people
Laughs in $100 Wal-Mart bike
"people are gonna be snatching these things up"
Yes I bet here in Germany people will snatch these if they get the chance but I'm not sure many will buy them.
Clearly never seen car break in rates in the US..
For 5k it better take me to Heaven.
Harley Davidson’s and electric in same sentence what a time to be alive
So Ultraviolette managed to make a full on electric motorcycle with 130km range and 147km/h top speed for 4000 dollars, while Harley is making a semi paddle cycle for 5000 dollars. Nice.
What about greyp from Rimac? Review these
Really nice bike sir. New here sir thanks .
How quick it can stop
you guys need to learn how to adjust seat post height, ffs
Can’t wait to ride one!
_Unmistakably Harley Davidson_ - $5000 for a $1500 bike. Sounds about right
I'm sure they're great bikes, but definitely not worth that price.
Better get some insurance.
I imagine when they become well known to the public they will be stolen often.
250 watt motor?? LOL! Good for grannies. The stealth bike built in Australia has 6,200 watts.
Excited!!
next the verge has to check out some vanmoof bike
I’ll stick to my Super 73 R, $3,200 37 mile range @ 35mph
Will they accept me in the club with this bike?😀
Range?
They gotta make a stretch bike
Comparisons please
Awesome speak
That price is insane though!
Seems like Harley just needs to make something between the S1 and Livewire that does like 35mph and is similar to something like a 50-100cc gas bike. If they do they would give the Honda Minimoto line some real competition.
Don't mention the range? NICE ONE
1:08 how is it unmistakgly harley?
Sorry, but for that price there are much better options, is the price justified by the Harley sticker?
I know of 2 E*Bikes that are superior than any of the Harley-Davidson bikes. One is approximately 7K and rugged, and the other around $2,500 (ONXY RCR) this has a good balance of how many miles or how long you can ride and how fast. Approximately 60-65mph. They are for off roads too. More like a Moped.
Why are they pedelecs? Why don't they make an electric moped? By the way, anyone knows why pedelecs are so popular?
hard fork.. wtf
What jacket is he wearing?
Overpriced just like their motorcycles but at least the appeal is there to me with these. Second hand market could be interesting in a year or two.
I doubt if there are any Harley service stations in Africa!>?
How much did Harley pay you to do this review?
2:46 Why are cars parked like that?
No paid promotion tag?
That bike has more Nm than my car 😂
I love the bike..just that it's too expensive.
What in the Sam Hill is going on?
The bike is so common looking, nothing no standout feauture whatsoever
thid looks perfect for NYC
Schwinn’s E bike has a 250 watt battery for $1K. This bike will appeal to the HD fan clubs.
The verge should review Bianchi, Willier, Orbea, Pinarello, Specialized, and other traditional bicycle brand ebikes. They have amazing products that look (and im willing to bet anything, ride) way way better than any of the non traditional brand ebikes that the verge always reviews (internet startup and now motorcycle brand ebikes)
But they look like bicycles. And they are pedelecs, not mopeds.
Marketing at its best! Awesome..
They should have put white tires on that bike or maybe even cream-colored tires💪
You can get a nice used Harley Davidson motorcycle for that price...or 6 really nice regular bikes....or 4 boost boards....or...
ok , need to be careful screw cap don't come loose
My E-Bike costs 2k and its beating the e-bike by every point execpt (looks but thats a personal one) and the automatic gear shifting which i dont even like. So im gonna stick to my old bike ;) I Mean my motor is stronger my range in larger and that are the important parts for me
What brand, where can I get it?
I wanted to see more of the bike itself.
Nice bike, but that price premium is preposterous lol.
I love it!!!!
The cvt is cool but aside from that why is it $5000? I’ll just got buy and actual motorcycle for way less and tops out at 120
And the people who see HD as a premium brand are not buying an e bike
Just a practical question. Who's going to service these? Are you on your own? Just can't imagine bringing my ebike to a Harley dealer. Or is that that idea?
