Fun fact, I was talking to my dealer principal a few weeks ago, and he told me that the reason Harley Davidson is delivering these bikes to the house is because the Dealerships that want to sell these are being FORCED to buy a really expensive charging station. Since many dealerships are not making a lot of cash these days as compared to last few years, they are not interested in buying the charging station or Paying for electricity to not only charge the new bikes, but also charge the customers bikes, should they decide to stop by and charge their bikes. The bike is an assortment of high quality parts from other manufacturers put together with a Harley badge on... I LOVE IT. Trouble is - charging infrastructure is poor in Western Australia..
Range was terrible on the first Tesla too. But they've getting great now. Harley is the first mass production manufacturer to do this. Don't talk to me about Zero. They're a hobby company. And they're not available most countries on the planet like a Harley or a Kawasaki, or even a Royal Enfield is. So, they've gone out on a limb here, but they're the first.
@@IRLtrolls They dont, and any review worth its publishers weight that compares the Zero and the Livewire the Livewire comes out on top. Every time. 0:49 "HD is the first big, large, motorcycle manufacturer to produce a fully electric motorcycle." I guess that's what HD put in their press blurb, and I don't blame you for it. But BMW has been selling the C-Evolution since 2014. And that's completely ignoring the different South-East Asia specific manufacturers who basically beat everyone to it by several years. Now I know you're a HD fanboi, and that's fine. I also know you have basically no interest in scooters of any kind, and that's also fine. But HD is one of the late comers to the market for electric motorcycles. Brands like AGM, Kymco, Vespa, BMW, KTM, NIU, Energica, Lightning, Zero and the list goes on and on and on all handsomely beat HD to the market. And not by a matter of weeks, but by the better part of a decade.
My BMW R1250RS has a 3.0s 0-60. It's neither a superbike nor a supercar, just a big twin with lots of torque. The LW S1 needs 120v @ 15a to charge, and while your generator is rated for 16.2a sustained, voltage will initially drop to around 100v before the motor steps up -- it's that lag the LW's power controller doesn't like so it throws the red light and says no.
I bet it does amazingly well. Charlie and Ewan are releasing a new long way up series using HD livewires. Looks what happened with the BMW popularity off the back of the first 2 seasons
It might be a crap speculation 🤷♂️ unless they shit all over the bikes the whole show, its bound to help sales though. Having generators kind of defeats the whole point... I was wondering how they'd deal with the Range issues. Electrics not really suitable for touring yet. Day rides and commuting is their area at the moment.

Zero makes some incredible bikes! I bought a 2020 DSR for delivery work, and with what I save in gas, oil changes ($500-800/mo), the bike is free. FREE!But the performance... wow! I blow by everybody with 0-60 in 2.6. But not having to deal with clutching, engine noise, vibration...and nothing but pure speed is a game changer... especially for new riders! Range is the top question. The DSR for standard riding (ie fast as possible) is about 80 miles. But if you lay off the throttle, I have seen over 200 miles of displayed range. Charging time (for level 2) is 2 hours from dead. That equates (in real world trips) to a beer, joint and brief stroll down Twitter for your halfway point. For delivery work I average 5-6 hours of riding time. But the best part of an electric bike is not how fast you can go, but how SLOW. Especially for off road, you have power/torque and control that is insane. This review is great, but undersells how amazing the total experience really is. You have to adjust your life around the bike, and it's absolutely worth it. The project is very young, but I am starting ZeroRides.com from Malibu, CA for donation-based rides and multi day trips, including Hwy 33 that takes you over 7,000 feet! So yeah, get a Zero.
Right on! I've thought about the motorcycle vs enginecycle thing many times. As you said, technically a motor is an electric propulsion device, while fuel or steam is an engine.
Beyond electric scooters, electric vehicles are largely impractical and uneconomic. However, I normally dislike Harleys, but this is an exception. Quite nice.
Why would you want to commute with this thing in the city when you can use an E-Bicycle instead? You don't need a license, registration, plates or inspection. Don't have to look for parking, can use dedicated bicycle paths, can blow through lights without much trouble. You will literally get to your destination twice as fast on an E-bicycle.
Because we love speed and the freedom that it offers, we love taking corners and pushing it to the limit, we love the wind we feel when going fast, and honestly e-bikes are just more environmentally friendly :) you could drive a bicycle and be boring or ride a motorcycle and live your life
@@xifpotsved That's exactly my point. Motorcycles are meant to be taken on journeys and twisty roads. Where in the city environment are you going to find an open, twisty road?
@ALCLCF Not really. To get totally clear of an urban area and on some good twisty roads, it takes at least 50 highway miles to get there first. If you spend your whole day there, that will be an additional 100+ miles. With an E-Motorcycle, you will not have enough range for that.

I’m a fan of combustion engines, but I rode one of these demos in Daytona. It’s the most well planted, fastest accelerating machines I’ve ever ridden. It scared me that it didn’t scare me. Over priced for me and I don’t like having limited range, but an excellent experience nonetheless. Another good example of Harley waiting a long time to copy someone else’s innovation and selling something fun to ride.
The acceleration and instant tourqe sets the ev apart from the internal combustion bike. Charging it with a gas generator is the equivalent of storing the electricity in the motorcycle and releasing it on demand.
I can guarantee you that "0" on your run time is not 0 on battery life. Any none potential fire bomb electronic device prevents over discharge by design.

u ever heard of a charging station? if its anything like a tesla it will have fast charge charging fully very fast. personally i think spare and interchangeable batteries would be better.
The thing is unless there is a great break through in battery technology you can't tack anymore energy in that battery pack. The pack is already very huge. Plus Li-Ion batteries degrade overtime.
The more weight you carry the faster you reduce the range, that's why cars don't just have a fuel tank that takes up most of the vehicle, even just doubling the tank size can have a terrible effect on overall range. Electric vehicles are the same, there is an optimum configuration. Otherwise big lorries/trucks would not be needed.
@@user-yv2cz8oj1k Gas weighs 6 lbs/gal. Doubling a 15 gallon gas tank would add another 90 lbs. That's an inconsequential amount of weight when it comes to fuel economy. You'd only need to fill it half way, unless you were going on a trip and needed the full 30 gallons.

@Mike King yes, from datasheet you can read, you can discharge cells to about 2.5V, but from 3,2 to 2,5V is almost no energy, so probably controller cut off at about 3,2-3,3V per cell to protect it, if you can program controller to cut off lower you will get maybe 10% more range and you will kill battery a lot faster

Plus, they don't see them being a huge sales item, so they don't want to invest in the charger.

With an E-Motorcycle, you will not have enough range for that.

u ever heard of a charging station? if its anything like a tesla it will have fast charge charging fully very fast. personally i think spare and interchangeable batteries would be better.
Who rides more than 100 miles per day?
@@user-yv2cz8oj1k Gas weighs 6 lbs/gal. Doubling a 15 gallon gas tank would add another 90 lbs. That's an inconsequential amount of weight when it comes to fuel economy. By the look of the video, if kept in more a power mode, I would be surprised if it went 80 miles. @@Boldswords11 my daily commute is about 108mi round trip, and zero charging stations at work. The bike in the video barely made 110mi in ECO mode, unless I missed something. 110mi. Arguably, most gas powered bikes have about the same range, but I can refill one of those anywhere and be on my way in 5min.
Very explanatory video...
I'm guessing the $299 Screaming Eagle tow strap is extra :-)
( strap hooks are extra)
Probably the best, most interesting video on the HD Livewire on the u tubes. Great research on this, thank you!
Things like this get me really excited about what's to come in the near future. I'm glad Harley jumped on the electrification train, and didn't let the future leave them in the past. The price will eventually come down I'm sure, but as it is right now, I can't see this being anything more than a "Hey look at me, I have a super expensive electric Harley" flex. $8000 just to replace a motorcycle battery..........nope! For the most part I tend to shy away from V-1.0 items. Wait until V-2.0 hits, and by then the kinks would mostly be ironed out, and the price is more feasible.......sometimes.
Fully discharging batterys is extremely bad for the battery life
I'm pretty sure Lithium batteries don't experience this. Lead Acid batteries do, but im not 100% on Lithiums.
No modern electronic let their battery completely discharged. Everybody knows that hence no company let you drain your battery completely.
I don’t know if I could ride without the sound of pipes lol.
You'll be able to add sound probably... there's companies that make exhaust note amps for Teslas.
It's dangerous. No car will hear you and not know you are in their blind spot
@@corymartin5573 I never hear a Harley in by blindspot either. I don't hear them until their next to my door.
@@kalel33 they have horrible pipes
I love that display! One thing I would like to see is what it can do with no traction control, all the nannies off, and a someone really getting on it!!
Watch every video you put out lol Miss my motorcycle so much
Had an fj1200 and got stolen 😩
Did you have insurance?
Right 😂
Weird ass comments
Ah finally, a harley that has enough power for the size of the actual engine
The clickbait is actually really well used. Clever.
It's not mildly deceiving and actually has money on the line
Super stealth bike for those quiet, undercover missions.
Great vids man keep up great job provide such happiness even in such distressing situation....👌👌👌
BTW you should make a learning stunts video....anyways vid ideas are pretty limited now so might as well and it would be a pretty lovely vid entertaining as well...
I was a expecting a kind of Chopper driving stance or at least, like Benelli 502C. This Harley-Davidson costs 36.000 euros with legal expenses, in Europe. And is smiliar to the Energica Ego that costs 5k less.
everyone else: what’s the cheapest bike i can buy
shaun: let me make a gamble with a $30,000 bike
Zero Gives the cheapest bike i can buy is a plastic little toy bike from the dollar store
So yeah, not gambling unless you do something dangerous.
