    Everybody forgets that you can lean the front seat all the way back with the headrest off and it makes a lounge chair when you sit in the back seat. Both front seats do this, it's great for drive-in movie theaters.

    111k miles on mine, bought new in 2012. Auto trans because of heavy commuting traffic. It has been a r9ck solid car. Snapped an axle in half and lost a couple of door lock actuators, but that is it. I change the trans fluid every 30k miles, which I highly recommend, easy and cheap even using OEM DW-1 fluid. The engines are bulletproof. No turbo/GDI stuff to break. Fun little car.

    I had this same exact Fit Sport in this color, extremely reliable. I’d always have people come up to me and ask me about it. Fun taking camping. It felt bigger on the inside than my new 2021 Venza because of Honda’s Magic Seats.

    This is the kind of car that would benefit a lot from a manual trans.
    Also, predictability... Yes. I have an old-ish Subaru which is not fast by most accounts, but it's super fun to throw around because it's predictable. Through a curve, you tap the brake and it rotates, tap the gas and it straightens out. No electronic nannies required. Just all the control to the driver.

    I know I'm super late but as someone who drives cars like this quickly down narrow mountain roads - the Fit chassis is amazing. Can push it so hard and it has barely any lean. When it transissions to oversteer its very predictable and smooth. It looks tall but the centre of gravity is still fairly low. Easy to embarrass much quicker cars when you have the confidence to push so much harder on twisty roads

    • @PretendFriend
      @PretendFriend 2 года назад

      How do you push your fit into oversteer? I have the rear sway bar which is supposed to help but I don’t experience “lift off oversteer” like I have when driving some more powerful FWD cars

    • @christopherjohnston6343
      @christopherjohnston6343 2 года назад +1

      @@PretendFriend (regarding the GD) its not really set up to do the lift of snap like some over FWD. But with trail braking into tight corners it can be encouraged to rotate the rear a little. I can only do it in stock Fit though on passenger tyres. My modified one with progressive lowering springs and 200TW tyres has never really had the rear step out. Possibly most sets of springs or Coilovers for the GD have the front spring rates too stiff relative to the rear.
      If you like Lift off you should drive a 2008-2014 Mazda2. They have lift off snap stock

    I still own my 2012 Fit Sport 5 speed manual I bought new at the start of 2013. It's a great fun to drive commuter car. It's a riot in the corners and off/on ramps. And with the manual transmission. it feels way more spritely especially taking off as you row the gears compared to the sluggish automatic. The Fit is the perfect example of why it's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow as a daily driver!Plus like you mentioned, the HVAC is perfect in simplicity and usability. I hate how 99% of vehicle HVAC controls are needlessly complicated, with "luxury" models and trims being the worst offenders.

    • @msmoniz
      @msmoniz 2 года назад +1

      @@CinHalCedHerChance There was a driveshaft recall that Honda took care of, but never caused me any problems as it was more of a preventive recall since they detected a historic flaw in the original manufacturing process and basically replaced both front drive shafts even at 9 years old! A/C clutch in the compressor wore out and I had to replace that. Everything else has just been normal wear and tear items like sway bar bushings(I like to take those off ramps hot like I said) and brakes, fluids, etc. I plan to drive it at least another 10 years. I have about 180,000 km(111,000 miles). As far as fuel economy, the worst I get is 29/30MPG but could get mid 30s if I just didn't have so much fun revving it out! LOL

    2011 Fit auto 108k owned since new. Some problems with tire pressure sensors, on my third battery and second set of tires. But that's about it. Cons: no center console, no sunroof option this year, a tad cramped for long trips- but it's a grocery-getter, not a grand touring car. Pros: inexpensive, reliable, quiet, versatile, easy to drive, easy to park. It's a shame they stopped selling them in the U.S. - I'll have to keep this one.

Bought it salvaged at 112k miles and after a year I’ve driven it every day. Gone on road trips and the only problem I’ve had was my battery drying. Love the looks on furniture stores faces when I buy a big item and pull up with the fit and later get shocked it FITs. My CRX group meets every fall to run the dragon. I was having ECU issues with my CRX and was forced to take my manual FIT. I was completely amazed by the rigidity and handling of the FIT! Power was an issue but, as you know, the dragon is tight and not very fast due to traffic volume. I loved the look of the FIT from the start and bought a couple knowing of the lack of "get up and go", but it sure hit all the other notes for me.

      3rd gen will have more creature comforts and safety assistance but they still cost more and arent as fun to drive (the cargo hold is smaller because the 3rd gens have more legroom in the back instead)

      I love my third gen Fit, but yeah the body style...it tries too hard to look like a ten-year-old kid's drawing of "cool."
      Although mine has less space behind the rear seat, it's enough for normal cargo. For anything big, I'll fold down the rear seat anyway.
      The manual transmission is forgiving. The clutch is much more gentle than older Hondas.

    Our neighbors had one, although I'm not sure what year. The transmission "died" one day in the middle of the street. It was during the pandemic, so I didn't go take a look at it as I'm guessing that it was just low on CVT juice. They ended up donating it and due to some weird circumstances, the next owner was able to find out who they were and contacted them to ask about the car.

    Nothing against automatic transmissions, but you can’t really judge this car accurately with one. I have driven both, and the auto in this car turns it into absolute turd. It saps about 10% more power from the engine over the manual making it painfully slow. This car with a manual is genuinely zippy if you keep the revs above 3k.
    Also, the rear seats, in addition to all the cool storage configurations, actually recline. You would probably be a lot more comfortable in the back with them reclined.

    This car doesn’t come with a 5 speed automatic but with a CVT in most continents. And it has a rear camera for parking, a panoramic roof and a GPS screen. And that was all standard.
    And it doesn’t have AC but real climate control so you can control the exact temperature on both sized of the car.
    Looks like the Fit for the US market is really made more economic/ basic.
    I have one myself. It’s smoother but definitely not faster than a 5 speed automatic.

    2012 were 2nd gen fits--not face lifted 1st gen. The 2007-08 were first gen (introd in 2001 in Japan). 2nd gen were larger, had dead pedal. Drive the stick--much funner than the manual.

    Honestly I’m looking into getting this car in the sport model. As well, for work . To lug my cleaning equipment in. But I also want to lower and stiffen up the suspension and breaking. And maybe down the road swap out the engine for a K24 engine. That would make this car more enjoyable to go to work . 👍🏼

    I have a 2012 Honda Fit. And you forgot to mention bunch of things about it!. I have it since Summer 2017 and I don't want any other vehicle. Maintenance is not costly as other vehicles. Parts are not that expensive or difficult to find. I do regular maintenance on it so my car never broke on me and I use the car for daily commute 145 miles at least 20 days of the month. It's way bigger than it seems. You can even connect the front seats with the back seats. Or fold the backs seats to have a full side bed. LoL. Great cooling and heating system. Super reliable on snow with the right TIRES. That car isn't that slow, you can change rears and go faster but ofcourse don't expect the same as tesla, BMW or so on... but not bad.

    The 2012 isn't a face lifted version of the first gen nor is the 2009 the first gen. 08' is the last year of the first gen. Also you don't need to move the front seat up to lay the seats flat. You're just supposed to take the headrests off when you do that. Front passenger seat also can go totally flat to line up with the back and several other seating modes you left out. It's all in the manual. That being said all Honda Fits rule!

    • @j_taylor

      The CVT gets better fuel economy than fixed gear ratios. That's the nature of a CVT: it frees the engine to run at its optimal speed.

      As long as you go manual transmission, you’re fine, the 2011 has a regular (torque converter) automatic like in this video and it sucks, the third generation (2015+ automatic is the pathetic, abhorrent, fun destroying CVT and must be avoided at all cost, stay with the manual.

    • @j_taylor
      @j_taylor 3 года назад

      Honda has been making manual transmissions for decades and they are very good at it.
      Their automatic transmissions are also reliable.
      CVT is new and Honda (like other manufacturers) is still learning how to make them more reliable. CVT requires regular maintenance which can be expensive.

      My reply is late, but I want to point out that paint fades over time (and sunlight). I went to a body repair shop and asked advice. They suggested a shade of touch-up paint that would not precisely match my car, but was slightly more dull and thus would not be noticed. I did not have such a lovely color, though.

      They hold their value stupidly well.
      I shopped for a used Fit (before the pandemic made prices crazy). For the price of a 2-year-old used Fit, I could buy the same model brand new. So that's what I did.
      Of course, the reason they keep their value is because...the cars last so well.
