Great video!!! Thank you for making & posting this video!!! I like all of the new tools you mentioned. I know I’ll be able to use them to help reduce the pain & pressure in my hands & wrists. I’m 55 now but I’ve been living with osteoarthritis since I was 17. Started in my hands & wrists. Unfortunately now it affects all of my joints & spine. But I work with my doctors to keep myself in the best health I can to live my life enjoying time with my husband, our daughter, our son-in-law, our two amazing grandchildren and my ever supportive parents. Having my family really helps in keeping my mind off a lot of the pain I live with due to my arthritis and nerve damage that I deal with as well. Although… I did know about two of the items you mentioned. I’ve been using the gloves for about 10 yrs now and they work amazingly. Before I retired 7 yrs ago I’d even keep a pair in my desk at work in case I had a big project or meeting where I couldn’t use my computer to type everything. The gloves are amazing. I’ve had several pairs over the years. Also years ago I learned about using the super fat pens. I’ve been using them since college. I always make sure I have them all over my house plus a couple in my purse for when I’m out in public. My daughter even keeps a stash of them at her house for me to use. They are great so I don’t get hand cramps when filling out paperwork at our dr offices for myself and both of my parents. My mother has Alzheimer’s. And my father has familial tremors so both of his hands shake terribly. The tremors do not stop him from doing anything else that he wants to do. He just takes his time to do all the things he loves to do. But I help him with any paperwork that he needs to do. So I fill out a lot of paperwork. Again thank you so much for making this video! Now I have more tools that I can use to make it easier for me to stay as independent as I can as I get older. Plus I’m looking forward to sharing this with my 85 yr old father who has had arthritis in his knees & shoulder for several years now. We’ve shared a lot of tips, tricks & hacks with each other for those joints. But these last few months his hands have really been bothering him. So now I have all of these amazing ideas to share with him to help him minimize the pain & discomfort he’s having too. It’s a new year and now we have some new things to try that will help both of us. Using some of these new tools will help the two of us keep ourselves in better shape in order to keep my mother at home as long as we possibly can. Thank you so much for sharing this info that may sound so simple to people who don’t live with arthritis & pain on a daily basis and I pray they never have to live with it. But to those of us who do… this simple info will help make things much easier for so many people. I can’t say thank you enough! But thank you so very much Doctor!!!🙏🏻
thanks you for these suggestions. My mother once told me what helped her hand arthritis. In morning she would take a tablespoon of cod liver oil followed by a tablespoon of orange juice. I've now had arthritis in the ring finger of my left hand (dominate hand for me). It got to where it was immobile. I started taking one capsule of cod liver oil, followed by eating an orange (I'm diabetic too and straight orange juice is not recommended). Motion has come back in that finger with less pain. I expect more improvement.
I am R. A. Patient. I come to know from your video that exercise with spring, which is lying idle in my house, is useful. Also i come to know other various instruments useful to r. A. Person. Thanks for all. God bless you. 🙏 From Amritsar, India.
I have Erosive Osteo Arthritis and the pain is so intense - unlike anything I've experienced. This rare arthritis has no cure and the 2 meds offered do nothing but add side effects you don't need or want. The trick is to do the finger exercises to keep your fingers functionable for as long as possible or they will "fuse" and permanently stiffen. If anyone knows anything about EOA please share! I find very little about it and even saw a specialist who didn't know what EOA is so I had to educate him! So frustrating to say the least. Very little stops this pain and the progression of this disease. Best to all arthritis sufferers, regardless of the type.
Get some urethane rubber gloves--home store or similar. They will be long, acid resistant, and they should fit loosely so putting them on and off will be very easy. Such gloves will double your grip on most anything, jars lids (always grip the lid with your left hand), garden tools, etc. and, of course, you can use them for cleaning and protecting your hands, washing the car or whatever. I even use them for shoveling snow--grip is better. Bicycle inner tubes come in lots of sizes and pieces can be installed on handles using liquid hair spray (what bike shops use for grips), the kind that comes in tubes for spiking hair. It is slick for installing and like glue when dry (24 to 48 hrs.), yet can be re-moistened and removed and washed off. All of my wood clamps have this. Works well with any short handled tool--my metal apple/potato peeler has a piece installed so round doesn't even really matter. There was a door handle grip shown above, but a short piece of the right sized tube would also work perfectly.
I have the exact gloves in the thumbnail. They work well and I will buy them again when the current ones wear out ❤. Also, we replaced all of our door handles to levers and this helped me when opening doors, especially the outer doors. My lack of grip strength/pain when gripping things is the most challenging issue when trying to open jars, etc.
I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis in my hands many years ago. I take Methotrexate, Humira along with folic acid and an NSAID. The medicines do help but I still get flare ups and difficulty doing things with my hands and more. I also have severe arthritis in my lower spine along with injuries and arthritis in most of my body. Thank you for posting your advice and helpful tools and information.
I was just diagnosed with arthritis after unexplained pain in my left knee, hip and right hand. I couldn’t believe it as I never had pain in these places (other than very mild stiffness and only when it was cold in my right hand). I’ve been, up to now, so blessed with good health. It’s been a challenge as I feel I went from zero to 80 in a matter of seconds. As I type this the ring finger in my right hand hurts so bad. That finger never hurt me before. I can barely bend it. I just don’t understand what’s going on with me.
@@rheumatologistoncall Yes it’s very disheartening as I’ve never had to deal with this before. I am 64 and as I said, have been, up to now, blessed with good health and relatively pain free. Whom should I make a consultation with? I’ve seen my doctor.

One tip. compression gloves are uncomfortable to wear, because of the seams are irritating, to make to wear to bear, wear them INSIDE OUT. The seams will be on the outside AND easier to remove by gripping the seams to remove.
For bottle and jar tops, I use a strap wrench. The rubber provides as firm grip and the strap goes along the handle so it doesn’t require a great gripe to use. The key : righty= righty, lefty= loosely.
